10/26: FOX Sports’ John Czarnecki thinks that Steven Jackson is “85 percent not to play” due to his quad injury. The Rams have said publicly that he’s likely a game-time decision.

10/14: The Chargers nearly traded for Michael Bush before the deadline before the Raiders pulled the offer off the table at the last minute, according to the San Diego Union-Tribune. It is believed the Chargers would have surrendered a second-day pick in the deal.

10/11: Dan Orlovsky (ankle, knee) is not a sure bet to start at quarterback in Week 6, even though Jon Kitna has been ruled out, MLive.com reports. The backup split reps throughout the week with Drew Stanton, and Orlovsky suffered left knee and ankle injuries last week. If he looks gimpy on Sunday morning, the Lions might opt for the more mobile Stanton.

A reader tells us that KSHB in Kansas City is reporting that Chiefs tight end Tony Gonzalez has requested a trade, and that one of the teams in the running is the New York Gootball Fiants. (It’s an inside joke that you’ll understand only if you check the site every day, multiple times per day.) Though we haven’t confirmed that KSHB is reporting this information, we’ve learned separately that, indeed, an effort is afoot to move Gonzalez out of Kansas City. The trade deadline is October 14 at 4:00 p.m. EDT.

Matt Hasselbeck (QB) 10/10: There is a "good chance" that Seahawks quarterback Matt Hasselbeck will be unable to play in the team's Week 6 contest against the Packers, according to Mike Sando of ESPN.com.

ESPN report Mlive is reporting that Kevin Smith has been told that he's lost his starting running back job to Johnson.

Willis McGahee may not be able to play in the Ravens contest Monday night against the Steelers because of his swollen eye, according to the Baltimore Sun. "As long as he can see, he'll play. But if he can't, he's not going to be able to play. So, we'll have to try to get that swelling down," said Ravens coach John Harbaugh.

The saga continues 9/24: Earlier reports said that LaDainian Tomlinson might actually have a whole week of practice. Well, that didn’t happen because on Wednesday, LT didn’t practice, according to Chargers.com.

The Eagles have filed their Wednesday participation report, and they have disclosed that neither quarterback Donovan McNabb (chest) nor running back Brian Westbrook (ankle) practiced today, three days after suffering in-game injuries against the Eagles.

Favre was noticeably limping after the game as he walked toward the middle of the field. Sure, he has shrugged off injuries in the past to continue his string of 13,456 straight NFL starts. But he’s older than he’s ever been (aren’t we all?), and sooner or later he won’t be able to recover so quickly from the aches and pains of life in the NFL.
