  1. 5-0 in a 14-team, 0.5 ppr league. I start Winston/D. Johnson/Elliott/Jordy/Marvin Jones/Cooper/Olsen/Seattle Def. Don't use a kicker. Another team is also 5-0 and there are no 4-1 teams. Would like to upgrade from Winston but I love his playoff schedule (New Orleans in weeks 14 and 16).

  2. This is why auctions are the way to go - you must constantly adjust on the fly. I went into our auction with the idea of attempting the zero RB strategy and I was thrown a curveball when I got D. Johnson for $22 ($100 cap). Elliott came up next and I couldn't pass on the value I thought was being offered and I got him for $25. (Some may feel that's a bit high but I feel he'll be the top RB this year). My strategy suddenly shifted. This is a 14-team league so it was extremely hard to find value at the WR position (many owners were attempting the zero RB strategy). I was left with this:

    D. Carr ($3)

    R. Fitzpatrick ($2)

    D. Johnson ($22)

    E. Elliott ($25)

    A. Foster ($7)

    G. Bernard ($7)

    C. Michaels ($3)

    Marvin Jones ($8)

    K. White ($4)

    J. Brown ($2)

    T. Austin ($4)

    G. Olsen ($9)

    C. Walford ($3)

    Oakland Def/ST ($1)

*** Totally different than I envisioned in any mock I did or just penciling in a team. My WR group is rather weak but there were no value picks on WR 1-30. Besides, this is a league that likes to trade and I'm hoping along with my top 2 RB's, Foster, Bernard, and/or Michael will impress in the first 3 weeks and I'll be able to package something for a WR #1. Not looking necessarily for comments on my team, just the fact that you must be ready to quickly change strategies when it comes to auctions.

  3. I play in a 14-team league and feel I have a pretty good starting lineup with Brees/Martin/McCoy/Hopkins/Robinson/Cooks/Olsen/K/Def. Then I find out Thursday reports say Cooks suffered a concussion in Wednesday's practice and probably won't play on Sunday. I have Funchess and Rudolph as players who could substitute for him. I wasn't all that keen on Funchess, having Olsen already and Funchess hasn't done much the past few weeks. I started Rudolph, who played on Thursday, so he is locked in. Then it comes out Cooks didn't have a concussion and is now probable in a great matchup. Anyone else stung by this unfortunate turn of events?

  4. Many of these guys aren't available in my league, as it is a competitive 14-team league. I have DGB and Funchess on my roster but wasn't much on the waiver wire. Hoping Green-Beckham picks it up a bit with the Titans down 2 receivers. I also have A. Robinson so I'm hoping for a shootout.

  5. I would bet many owners are looking for WR help this week with the likes of Brown, Bryant, Cooks, Beckham, etc. all sitting on a bye. Who are some receivers who might be available that could fill in and do a creditable job? I look at guys like DGB, Funchess, Givens, among others to step in at a #3 spot and contribute. Anyone else?

  6. Does Cooks play outside or in the slot? He appears to possibly be a good slot player. Does he get moved around? Atlanta does this with Julio all the time. If they truly want to get him the ball more, there are strategic ways to do it.

  7. What is J. Hill worth as far as other RB's/Wr's? It seems he is losing carries to Gio and the schedule for the next 5-6 weeks isn't good for running the ball. Might be Dalton throwing it which takes Hill out of the game. Matt Jones/Abdullah/Hyde/D. Murray? Maybe a #2/3 WR?

  8. Auctioned last night. 14 team league, 4 pts. TD pass, all others 6 pts. 0.5 ppr. ($100)

    T. Bridgewater (Min) - 2

    A. Dalton (Cin) - 1

    J. Hill (Cin) - 23

    C. Ivory (NYJ) - 14

    L. Murray (Oak) - 13

    D. Martin (TB) - 5

    K. Davis (KC) - 2

    J. Matthews (Phi) - 13

    J. Landry (Mia) - 10

    C. Johnson (Min) - 7

    A. Boldin (SF) - 3

    V. Cruz (NYG) - 2

    O. Daniels (Den) - 2

    B. Watson (NO) - 1

    D. Carpenter (Buf) - 1

    Arizona Def/Sp. - 1

***Attempted to get one of the top 5 RB's but I wouldn't go over $28. Seven WR's went over $20 and I wasn't going to budge there either. Got Bridgewater after each of the other teams had their QB and didn't want to spend a lot on a backup. I don't think I have many impact players (Hill/Matthews) but I have depth for trading as the season progresses. Start QB/RB/RB/WR/WR/WR/TE/K/Def.

***What do you think? Good enough in a 14 team league?

  9. 14 teams, all TD's 6 points, 0.5 ppr, 0.5 points per completion.

    1 - J. Hill (Cin)

    2 - J. Jones (Atl)

    3 - L. Miller (Mia)

    4 - M. Evans (TB)

    5 - J. Landry (Mia)

    6 - C. Johnson (Min)

    7 - J. Randle (Dal)

    8 - S. Bradford (Phi)

    9 - P. Rivers (SD)

    10 - D. Funchess (Car)

    11 - K. Davis (KC)

    12 - R. Rodgers (GB)

    13 - Philadelphia Def.

    14 - J. Cook (StL)

    15 - R. Bullock (Hou)

    16 - M. Jones (Was)

    Start QB/2 RB/3 WR/TE/K/Def

  10. Also keep in mind Helu will take away 3rd down duties from Murray. If you are swinging for the fences and want someone who might be a top 8-10 back, I think Randle has a leg up on Murray. Of course, he can be an idiot. It seems I recall Witten and some of the other veterans going to the coaching staff and wanting him released last year. Still, with the O-line in Dallas and McFadden as his competition I would go with Randle.

  11. I've got the same dilemma between Ryan & Sanchez. Would start Ryan with no doubt but Green Bay weather has me questioning it.

I think I'd go Cam in a dome against Saints shaky D over Sanchez this week.

I can't see Sanchez doing more than 200 yds & 1td this week.

I really like Ryan this week just like I did with Cutler against the Boys - both will be behind early and will contribute a lot in garbage time. I wouldn't worry much about the weather in GB, a little snow but I don't think much wind.

  12. I had D. Brees a few weeks ago when I drafted M. Sanchez with the idea that he would do quite well in the Philly offense. I traded Brees to upgrade RB and WR and took a huge chance on Sanchez. Really, the only holdup for me was week #14 - when Philly plays Seattle. Just how badly will the hawks make the Sanchise look? I have Cam on the bench against the Saints but he and Carolina really aren't playing well right now.

  13. I have Brees and Sanchez at QB and I am weak at WR (Julio, V. Jackson, James Jones), maybe even RB2 (Jennings). If you trade someone like Brees to shore up some holes, is Sanchez good enough to win you anything? I think Kelly's system is probably good for at least 250 yards and 1-2 TDs a game.

  14. We have this discussion every year. Our league is a 14-team league and the top 6 make the championship bracket. The top 5 are by record and the 6th seed is the highest scorer of the remaining 9 teams. It seems that this is 50/50 among our owners. I am the commissioner and we had a season a while back where our leading scorer didn't make the championship round. The reasons for taking this route include:

    1) We play head-to-head; so much of how you score are the matchups your players have, injuries, injuries during games, etc.

    2) What is the one thing you can control? Who you put in your lineup to maximize your points.

    3) You have no control over what your opponent scores.

    4) The best team usually isn't the one with the best record - it's the team that's scored more but maybe has had some bad luck.

This seems to work for us. We haven't had the leading scorer not reach the championship round since the rule's inception, but the rule means that many teams are still in contention for the 6th spot in week #13 (our last week).

  15. With this logic, you would think Jackson, Freeman, Rodgers would all have better numbers than what they do. They all play with the same players on offense and the same opportunities are presented. Smith's skill set and size probably doesn't allow for a workhorse role but it should be somewhat easy for an offensive coordinator to find gaps in the defense for a team with the likes of Atlanta's starting WR's.

  16. 14 team draft - 0.5 ppr; 4 pts. thrown TD - 6 all else. Start QB/RB/RB/WR/WR/TE/Flex/K/Def

    J. Cutler

    T. Romo

    E. Lacy

    A. Ellington

    T. Gerhart

    F. Jackson

    A. Williams (NYG)

    B. Cunningham

    J. Jones (Atl)

    C. Patterson

    K. Benjamin

    M. Wheaton

    D. Allen

    T. Wright

    N. Novak

    New England

  17. In my fantasy league (auction) I tried this strategy. looks like this:

    Romo

    Palmer

    J. Bell

    J. Hill

    L. Miller

    Ingram

    B. Sankey

    Dez

    Jordy

    M. Floyd

    Cruz

    Ertz

    Kelce

    Kicker/Def

*** With $100 budget, I refused to spend 30-35% on one guy (elite RB). Also, 2nd tier RB's were going for $18-24. Didn't seem like value. I took a bunch of RB's who could hit a couple weeks down the road. As for now, I'll start Joique and 4 WR's. Not special, I know, but each of my receivers has breakout possibilities each week. Not sure I like my team but it was a different approach so we'll see. I need Hill, Ingram, and/or Sankey to become fantasy relevant by week #4 when bye weeks start to hit.

  18. 14 team, 0.5 ppr, 1 QB/1 TE/1 Def/1 Kicker/ either 1 RB and 4 WR or 2 RB and 3 WR. 16 round auction - $100.

    T. Romo (Dal) $11

    C. Palmer (Ari) $2

    M. Lynch (Sea) $21

    J. Bell (Det) $7

    D. Freeman (Atl) $3

    L. Miller (Mia) $2

    M. Ingram (NO) $1

    J. Nelson (GB) $18

    M. Floyd (Ari) $9

    V. Cruz (NYG) $8

    K. Benjamin (Car) $3

    B. Cooks (NO) $3

    Z. Ertz (Phi) $5

    R. Rodgers (GB) $3

    M. Bryant (Atl) $1

    New Orleans Def. $1

    *** Have a proposed deal on the table where I trade Lynch/Freeman/Cooks for B. Sankey/D. Bryant/Supplemental draft pick - week #1.
