  1. I was a Foster owner (but didn't have Tate). Wednesday night, traded Foster, Ward, T. Young for Hightower, Helu, R. Wayne. Tonight I took Hightower, Helu, R. Wayne, and E. Manning and traded for C. Johnson (Ten), Ringer, R. Fitzpatrick, and Jacoby Jones. In essence, traded Foster, Ward, Eli, and Titus Young for Chris Johnson, Ringer, Fitzpatrick, and Jacoby Jones. I felt pretty good about that on 2 aspects: 1) When/if Foster is healthy it looks like some type of committee with Tate running as well as he has. 2) If Johnson has the midseason injury I've been reading that many believe he will have, Ringer has looked great in the carries he has gotten so far. Not too worried about a sharing situation in Tennessee; they didn't pay Johnson all that money for 12-15 carries a game. They'll run him till his legs fall off.

  2. Two 14 team leagues. One auction, one draft:

    Auction

    QB - M. Stafford

    RB - A. Foster

    RB - R. Rice

    WR - B. Marshall

    WR - W. Welker

    WR - J. Jones (Atl)

    TE - O. Daniels

    K - N. Rackers

    Def/ST - New Orleans

    Draft

    QB - T. Romo

    RB - J. Best

    RB - B. Wells

    WR - A. Johnson

    WR - C. Johnson

    TE - J. Graham

    K - A. Henery

    Def/ST - Chicago

(may start S. Johnson (buf) instead of Wells. Can start 3 WR 1 RB)

  3. Ended up taking the 7th spot. 14 team league, all TDs 6 pts., 0.5 ppr. Here's what I ended up with.

    QB T. Romo (Dal)

    C. Newton (Car)

    RB J. Best (Det)

    B. Wells (Ari)

    J. Starks (GB)

    B. Jacobs (NYG)

    R. Helu (Was)

    WR A. Johnson (Hou)

    C. Johnson (Det)

    S. Johnson (Buf)

    M. Manningham (NYG)

    TE J. Graham (NO)

    J. Cook (Ten)

    K A. Henery (Phi)

    D. Buehler (Dal)

    Def Chicago

*** Took 2 kickers because we had to. Took Andre and Calvin in rounds 1 & 2 and got Romo at the beginning of round 3 (P. Manning was the only top tier QB left and I wasn't picking again for 28 picks). We start 2 RB and 2 WR and a TE. Running backs are a little weak but one of the Johnson boys should be able to net me a top tier RB, plus I look for Jacobs, Starks, or Helu to all be usable at some point during the season.

  4. Drafting tomorrow and the order is unique. It goes as follows:

    Round 1 : 1 - 14

    Round 2 : 14 - 1

    Round 3 : 7-1; 14-8

    Round 4 : 8-14; 1-7

Round 5 : Same as round 1 - continues this pattern

*** 0.5 ppr league, all TDs are 6 points. I've been looking at the back end where I can get a quality RB/WR then go QB. Then when it comes around in the middle of round 3 I can get another quality RB. What do you think?

  5. Have my auction this Saturday. We have been auctioning now for 6 or 7 years. Start QB,RB,RB,WR,WR,WR,TE,K,Def. 1/2 ppr, $100 cap. Easy to mock a draft but not so easy for an auction. Let me know what you think. (for comparison purposes, top RBs usually go for $30-35; top QBs 20-25; top WRs 20-25).

    QB - M. Ryan (Atl) $4

    QB - R. Fitzpatrick (Buf) $1

    RB - L. McCoy (Phi) $23

    RB - M. Ingram (NO) $13

    RB - K. Moreno (Den) $9

    RB - R. Jennings (Jck) $1

    WR - V. Jackson (SD) $18

    WR - M. Williams (TB) $13

    WR - M. Manningham (NYG) $8

    WR - S. Moss (Was) $4

    WR - J. Jones (GB) $1

    WR - N. Burleson (Det) $1

    TE - G. Olson (Car) $1

    TE - J. Cook (Ten) $1

    PK - M. Bryant (Atl) $1

    Def - Detroit $1

Actual results from last night's auction:

    QB - E. Manning (NYG) $5

    QB - M. Stafford (Det) $3

    RB - R. Rice (Bal) $29

    RB - R. Mathews (SD) $8

    RB - M. Tolbert (SD) $1

    RB - M. Bush (Oak) $1

    RB - S. Ridley (NE) $1

    WR - B. Marshall (Mia) $13

    WR - J. Maclin (Phi) $11

    WR - M. Williams (TB) $9

    WR - W. Welker (NE) $9

    WR - D. Bess (Mia) $1

    TE - O. Daniels (Hou) $3

    TE - B. Celek (Phi) $1

    K - N. Rackers (Hou) $1

    Def/ST - New Orleans $1

**** 14 team league. After some big names came off of the board there were many values to be had. Felt really good about Stafford and my entire receiving unit. Left $3 on the table. Would have felt real good about my team if I could've gotten a 3rd RB who was a starter. Came close on Hightower and Green-Ellis.

  6. Have my auction this Saturday. We have been auctioning now for 6 or 7 years. Start QB,RB,RB,WR,WR,WR,TE,K,Def. 1/2 ppr, $100 cap. Easy to mock a draft but not so easy for an auction. 7. Eli Manning - very consistant the last few years; 2 great wideouts; will be in a few shootouts.

Tim Hightower - Not sure if underrated is the word here, but if he can control the fumbles and keep Shanny's confidence (BIG if) he could be fantasy gold.

Lance Moore - ADP starting to rise. Colston is a shell of his former self and Moore will pick up much of his load when Colston has to sit. Also, is used

often in R. Bush's role (will be minimized with addition of Sproles). 70 - 1100 - 10 is not out of the question.

  8. I landed the six spot in a ppr and am ecstatic with the idea of McCoy in the first. 80 catches is a realistic possibility, 800-900 rushing yds conservatively, plus receiving yardage and td's is something to be excited about!!! It's a deep RB pool for picks 1-6 in a ppr..... First time in a while.

I love the idea of McCoy at #6. Defenses at the end of the year started to somewhat figue Vick out and if he gets hurt, Vince Young is not going downfield with any regularity. Both lead to McCoy running the ball or hitting him out of the backfield. The idea a spy on Vick opens things up for McCoy as well.

  9. I am picking #12, not sure who will slip b/c my league values elite QB's, so I listed a few that will probably not be avialable, but want to be prepared in case. who on this list is in the best position to do well? Whose offense/team/o-line/age/circumstance will produce a top 5 RB in the lower 1st round of this years draft?

Micheal Turner: Is he still a strong bet for 1,300 yards and 10 Touchdowns? Is he wearing down? Who is taking 3rd reps this year?

Steven Jackson: It looks promising for the Rams with Bradford in his 2nd year. Can he help Jackson increase his td's this year? Do the rams have a young good line?

Mendy: Any truth to the super bowl hangover for rbs. I like him a lot, but something is holding me back. Can he be a #1 RB? How is that line doing these days? Will steelers make another run at the superbowl?

MJD: can see him slipping - getting older, not sure he can do it all by himself anymore. are the jags a good team, getting better or worse? how is the o-line and WR's?

Gore: had him last year, he did well on a horrisle team before he injury...this year is a different story...new coach, new system? could go south quick with Alex Smith and growing pains of new system...or new system and talent on offense can click and he can produce "in space"...thoughts?

Forte: someone would have to really, really convince me over the guys above.

Run DMC - He might slip, is he worth the risk?

BTW - for WR, i am thinking calvin or White will be there for me. white crushed it for me last year, but slowed down in the playoffs, which sucked bad...is calvin surely the better pick?

Of the RBs mentioned, I would think Turner and Mendenhall would be the safest picks but Jackson and McFadden would probably be better in ppr leagues. I'm staying away from MJD and Gore this year because of injury concerns, unless they slide into the mid 2nd round. I think Calvin is the better choice, depending how Julio Jones affects White's numbers.

  10. I'm surprised there was no mention of either DeMarco Murray in Dallas with Barber having moved on to Chicago or Ryan Williams in Arizona where the running game has not been up to snuff during the Hightower/Wells regime.

What's the story on Williams? I don't know much about him. Is he good enough to take the primary role away from Wells or Hightower? Is he a pass catching RB?

  11. I like #6 because you are going to get one of AP, Foster, C. Johnson, Charles, Rice, or McCoy. I think Charles and McCoy are going to be ppr monsters this year. If you are pick 6th you will have pick #19 in the second round and should land you a stud WR in the lines of Wayne, Wallace, Austin, etc. Sets you up in the 3rd round with a solid #2RB or a QB on the lines of Romo or possibly Rivers.

  12. 1- CJ Spiller. With an average pick of about 80 (which in 12 team leagues is the 6th round), I think you're getting a player that will be more involved in the offense his 2nd year. He got hurt and didn't really get to fully show his skill sets last year, but the potential was clearly there as he had seven different games where he broke a 10+ yard run. He also demonstrated the ability to catch the ball out of the backfield.

2- Ronnie Brown. He won't be back with the Dolphins, but given the right scenario this guy could be an injury away from retaking a starting role in an NFL offense. His YPC dipped below 4.0 for the first time in his career last year, but the number I enjoyed seeing was 16 games played in. He's going in the 11th round in PPR leagues. Why not?

3- Justin Forsett. Let's compare shall we?

737 yds rushing, 3.6 YPC, 6 TDs 22 catches for 145 yards (Marshawn Lynch)

523 yds rushing, 4.4 YPC, 2 TDs 33 catches for 252 yards (Justin Forsett)

Give Marshawn Lynch the slight advantage in PPR leagues right?

    75.32 (ADP - Lynch)

    226.68 (ADP - Forsett)

Nuff said. Last year I advocated taking McFadden when Michael Bush was getting all the hype. Doesn't this sound like a similar situation? Granted McFadden was a more dynamic player in college and had the potential, but in Tom Cable and Darrell Bevell's offense...I want a running back.

Where do you see Brown going? I agree with you that he's still got a some tread on the tires but it would have to be an ideal situation. Maybe as the preseason gets going an injury will make him look more appealing.

The Forsett numbers are more than intriguing. I also think the lack of a good QB in Seattle raises the stock of whoever plays RB in Seattle.

I'm not real big on Spiller. Recent reports have him returning kicks again this year which probably says a little about what they want him to do on offense. Plus, I'm a big Fred Jackson fan. Small town Iowa college and I coached his wife in high school basketball and track. Would love to see Fred go off.

  13. Here are a couple I like, though I'm sure most will probably disagree:

    1. Cedric Benson (or whoever the Bengals sign)- They are going to run the ball a bunch and the OL has more potential than most realize. The LT Andrew Whitworth is very good. RT Andre Smith has been a bust up to this point due to poor conditioning and injuries. There is some buzz that he has showed up in outstanding shape to camp this week. From a pure talent perspective, he could be one of the best run blockers in the league. The 2 guards and center could end up being weak as pass blockers, but are strong run blockers (recently signed Deuce Lutui should be a big upgrade at LG). Like others mentioned, he probably doesn't have crazy upside, but Benson could be a high level RB2 if things fall correctly.

    2. Reggie Bush- This is a guy I believe in and I think people forget about his upside in PPR leagues. He has an 88 catch season on his resume and just turned 26. Prior to his injury plagued 2010, he was averaging 17 fantasy points per game for his career (that's a huge number). It's possible he'll be confined to simply a 3rd down back role and have minimal value, but I suspect it'll be closer to 50/50 with Thomas and Bush splitting the touches. If Reggie gets 12 touches a game, 7 carries and 5 receptions, he could put up a 70 or 80 catch season with 1,300 total yards which would guarantee him at least high RB2 PPR numbers. I just "overpaid" to acquire Reggie in a dynasty league trade today.

    3. Mark Ingram- The signing of Sproles today hurts his value in PPR. However, whoever has the #1 RB role on the Saints the last few years has consistently put up big numbers. It's flown under the radar a bit because one week its Ivory, one week its Bush, the next its Pierre Thomas because all of those guys have had a hard time staying healthy. But that Saints offense is one that in 2009 was top 6 in the league in rushing yards and they've said they want to get back to that. I tend to think Ingram gets the bulk of the carries and ends up with double digit TDs and over 1,000 yards rushing.

Thanks for the replies. I agree with the Cincinnati situation, but I was hoping they would pick up Jason Snelling. It really looks like Palmer isn't coming back and if they go with Dalton, you'll see a lot of check downs and I don't think Benson is equipped for that. The last couple of years I thought B. Scott would play a bigger role but I don't think their staff sees him as a workhorse.

I also like the Bush numbers but I think he will go for more than I want to pay for him. Too many weapons in New Orleans kept him from his optimal output in my opinion.

I know one of these days a RB is going to take most of the duties in New Orleans and be a fantasy monster, but I have been burned by that situation too many times and Ingram looks like he'll be sharing with P. Thomas and Ivory. I envision them going with the hot hand and Ivory getting most of the goalline work.

  14. The last 3 years I have auctioned M. Forte, R. Rice, and A. Foster each for less than $10 ($100 cap). I got each of these with help from many on this particular forum. My question is, who will that RB be this year? I think M. Ingram and D. Thomas (Mia) can be taken out of the equation as they will be too well known by the time most drafts/auctions roll around. Some other backs who could possibly fill this role include: Delone Carter (Ind), Roy Helu (Wash), Ryan Williams (Ari), and Mike Leshoure (Det). There might also be others I'm not thinking of right now. What are your thoughts? Thanks in advance.

  15. 14 team league. Had a 6-way tie for 1st with each team having a 9-4 record. Top 5 make the playoffs and the 6th and final team is the team that has scored the most points of the remaining nine teams. After all the tie-breakers were taken care of, one of the 9-4 teams lost out to a 6-7 team that had scored the most points in the league. Tied for first, didn't make the playoffs.

  16. Our 14-team league uses a combination of both. The top 5 teams reach the playoffs but the 6th seed is the highest scorer of the remaining 9 teams. We switched to this a few years ago when the leading scorer in the league finished with a 6-7 record and missed out on the playoffs. Currently, I have the highest scoring team but am only 5-6. Head-to-head emulates the real game being played on the field but your main goal should be put a team out there that will score the most points possible. Unlike the real game, you cannot control how many points your opponent scores. Head-to-head gives you that feeling of competing and gives you bragging rights for the week, but our league feels that the point issue should also be addressed when the playoffs roll around.

  17. On the opposite end of the spectrum: My 14-team league where I feel my team is good but is 2-4.

    QB Roethlisberger/Vick/McNabb

    RB A. Foster/Benson/B. Scott/Torain/Darby

    WR R. Moss/C. Johnson/Knox/Evans/M. Thomas

    TE A. Hernandez/Heap

    K M. Bryant

    Def New Orleans

    Start QB/2 RB/3 WR/TE/K/Def *** 2-4/second in the league in scoring by 6 points.

  18. I drafted 6th this past Saturday - 14 teams (start 1 QB, 2 RB, 2 WR, 1 TE, k, def)

    1 - A. Rodgers

    2 - M. Austin

    3 - L. Fitzgerald

    4 - J. Charles

    5 - A. Gates

    6 - K. Moreno

    7 - A. Bradshaw

    8 - J. Knox

    9 - Green Bay def.

    10 - M. Williams (TB)

    11 - K. Huggins

    12 - J. Campbell

    13 - T. Scheffler

    14 - N. Rackers

    15 - S. Janikowski

    16 - Denver def

*** had to draft 2 kickers, 2 defenses

*** traded Huggins and Bradshaw to Cadillac owner for R. Grant after draft

    My starting lineup:

    QB - A. Rodgers

    RB - J. Charles - R. Grant

    WR - M. Austin - L. Fitzgerald

    TE - A. Gates

    K - N. Rackers

    def - Green Bay

*** Not bad for a 14 team league. D. Williams went 3rd so I had my choice of Rodgers or A. Johnson.

  19. Michigan won because their offense came out and did many things it hadn't all year. Empty backfield, spread sets, 1-back sets. It looked as if Florida wasn't prepared for any of that. It looked as if they consulted Rodriguez on what he wanted to run next year. My question is why didn't Michigan do this more throughout the season? I am in Big 10 country so I get to see them play alot and there was a bunch of 2-back sets and basic offense that seemed easy to defend. This offense (against Florida) took andvantage of Manningham and Arrington as well as Hart. I know Henne was hurt much of the year but it seems when you have explosive offensive weapons as those mentioned, you should open it up a bit.
