huskerboy 0 Posted October 21, 2005 Fonoti (solid OG from San Diego) was traded to Minnesota on Tuesday for a SEVENTH round pick! I was on the record last week saying Houston should give a 4th or 5th rounder for him. They could have had him for a 6th or 7th! Although Minn needed him almost as bad. Very nice trade by the Vikings.
Guest Loose Circuits Posted October 21, 2005 I agree, dude is a solid run blocker. He has been disappointing this year for the Chargers, but anybody w/ that high of rating on Madden is good right (see Hovan last year)? Actually, I am not barring my judgement based off that, I live in NE and watched this beast play in college. He can get it done.
The Next Generation 10 Posted October 21, 2005 I saw the clips of him on Playbook and they showed him absolutely blowing up defenders and creating huge holes for LT last year. Why would the Chargers trade him, even if he had weight/injury problems this year (I believe he had/has a hand injury)? Surely, he could have provided solid depth. I would rather have a proven guy that a 7th round "what if".
hoffdaddy 1 Posted October 21, 2005 Gotta be more to the story here. Same type of thing that happened to Jesse Chatman in San Diego. Got hurt, milked it, shown the door. Good run blocker, but I'm not sure how he fits in with a team not committed to the run, like Minnesota.
huskerboy 0 Posted October 21, 2005 He really wasn't disappointing to the team this year on the field. He just had an injured hand and the ol' "fell out of favor with management" routine. He's a great blocker!

He's a great blocker! If that's all it was, then I'd say management is retarded. I can understand moving him if he is a problem, but if he's that good a run blocker they should have gotten a 4th or at least a 5th. Hell, any idiot could see that there are a ton of teams in need of good O-linemen.
esoitl 0 Posted October 21, 2005 the pick will almost surely turn into a 6th, not like thats any better than a 7th, but hey all he has to do is dress for 6 games or start 3 a lot of teams missed out for sure about the value though, players are muchly undervalued when it comes to picks and im not surprised that he went for this type of pick remember, TO went for a 2nd rounder, Edge and SA were on the table for what seemed to be a 2nd, Cowart for a 7th unless you're a primetime player at the position, low draft picks will be all it takes im not surprised at the low value...... localjoe 0 Posted October 21, 2005 Apparently the Jets got on the phone too late. Sure could use some O-Line help.
Dante 0 Posted October 21, 2005 I live in Minny and heard Steve Cohen from Football Injuries discuss Fonoti on KFAN this morning. Fonoti has always had weight problems, which is why he "fell out of favor" in San Diego. Currently, as a guard, he is about 410 lbs. According to Cohen, the Vikings told him he will not sniff the field until he loses 20 lbs.
