CurlyNight 0 Posted March 27, 2006 I'd do that with cats or dogs, but its just too damn sad for me...Seeing the abused animals and all.. Ideally animals wouldn't be sold as pets in stores but from a reputable breeders, who are knowlegable and provide accurate education in the care of what the potential buyer is getting into. With birds specifically, too many breeders are looking at their pockets rather than the well being of the bird. There's a bunch of us that are trying to get animals out of Petco right now, as the conditions, the way they are treated, and what they are fed is so not right. My neighbor works for a local animal hospital and took home a Begal (sp?) once whose previous owners, a breeder, surgically had the poor dogs voice box removed.. She has told me so many horror stories about some of the breeders it just makes you sick.. I know there are reputable breeders out there, but like auto mechanics, politicians, used car salesmen, there are enough of the bad to cast a shadow on the rest... Aren't stereotypes fun? I mean you can't just give your kid to whatever home you want. There is an adoption process to make sure it's in the kid's best interest to go there over what you are saying. The same should go for animals. Screen for the serious and devoted folks, educate them in their choice of a pet, then let them have it if they show genuine love. I could write a book on the horrors I've seen and what folks have said in their "defense" when I ask them wtf is the matter with them. My 2 cats are the greatest things to have around. If I had more space my house would be filled with cats, dogs, goats...Well, maybe the yard... As Bob Barker says..Neuter your pets.. Only this year, I plan to show up to the detroit metro league draft and shoot much better than the 90+ round I was on pace for last year.
