Elon 0 Posted June 12, 2006 Has anyone heard any rumors concering Manuel getting fired. I know I'm dreaming. This team has too much talent to be playing this inconsistantly. If the Phillies were to fire Manuel who would you want to replace him. If Manuel got fired today I would be satisfied with giving Gary Varsho a chance, if its the end of the season I would go with Terry Pendleton.
Byars41 0 Posted June 12, 2006 they should have never hired him in the 1st place. they could have had Jim Leyland
Rybo5 0 Posted June 12, 2006 The best case scenario is probably that he's dismissed during the off-season.
Elon 0 Posted June 12, 2006 they should have never hired him in the 1st place. they could have had Jim Leyland I really wanted them to get leyland also. After all the Tigers are only in first place. The Phillies didn't even want to interview the guy and thought he would just rock the boat. When your team hasn't been to the Series in over 20 years your boat needs to be rocked. MurOh 1 Posted June 12, 2006 I can see Varsho filling in for the rest of the season. Bombard also had managed Scranton (Phillies AAA) for eight seasons before he was brought up to Charlie's staff.
Concrete Charlie 0 Posted June 15, 2006 I've seen enough of Charlie, time to go. I was willing to give him a chance and he's had one, a good long chance. Now get going Charlie, the team is not focused at all with you in the dugout. Gary Varsho can finish out the season.
Gabriel Balcavienga 0 Posted June 15, 2006 i say offer manuel, abreu and david bell for Arod.
edjr 6,228 Posted June 15, 2006 i say offer manuel, abreu and david bell for Arod. ARod will only prosper in a town that doesn't care about baseball. Philly isn't a very good choice. Kansas City would be better.
RunRastaRun 0 Posted June 15, 2006 This team has too much talent to be playing this inconsistantly. What ??? The Phillies as a whole play HORRIBLE defense. Absolutely horrible. Howard looks lost at 1B. You also have no pitching. Starters have been inconsistant and the bullpen other than Tom Godon is very weak. How is that the managers fault? Hope you've enjoyed the beating the Mets have given your team the last 2 days. After today's sweep the Phils will be 9.5 back

Red White and Blue 0 Posted June 15, 2006 It's not Manuel's fault the Phil's pitching is mediocre and they have no leadoff hitter. They should trade Burrell for a starter, put Victorino in LF and force Abreu to bat leadoff. I'd love to see them trade for Willis but I don't know what the Marlins would want. It's Gillick's first year as GM - hope he's more aggressive than Wade at the trade deadline. This team isn't going anywhere with the players they have now. RunRastaRun 0 Posted June 15, 2006 check the stats before you make silly comments, especially regarding the phillies bullpen. OK so the bullpen aint as bad as I thought. Doesn't change the fact the the starting pitching is average at best and their defense is atrocious. Silly comments would be trading your manager, a declining Abreu, and a never has been Bell for one of the Top 3 players in the game.

The defense is middle of the road in errors and fielding % - you are reacting to a few miserable moments in the last few games and assuming that the Phils always look that bad. They're not a great fielding team but they're not "atrocious." Also, Abreu had maybe his best season last year. He hasn't been great this season, but to say he's "declining" is a shot in the dark. The starting pitching is average at best - all the injuries haven't helped.
