songs with good harmonica bits

Recommended Posts

I'm real close to getting started on learning to play the harmonica and would really appreciate any reccomendations of songs that you may know of that have a harmonica part that you like. Ill be leaning mostly towards blues rock and southern rock but examples from any genre would be welcome and much appreciated. every thing I've read up on indicates that a 10 hole diatonic in the key of c is the best for starting out on. I'm leaning towards a Lee Oskar brand over a Honer based upon the reviews I've read.

thanks again

BLS is coming in November, and NOT that I consider that 'quality' music by any stretch, you go to that with me, and I'll show you how to rock out with your um.....'labia'? out....... :dunno:

Just be cause you don't like it doesn't mean it's ######. He wanted harmonica; that song's got harmonica.

I doubt I can go to that show. I'm staying with my cousin that weekend and I can't leave if she's home because she'll raid the liquor cabinet.

Plus, I hate the Quest. There's a show that night I'd go to at First Ave (Jamie Lidell + Hot Chip) if I could and another show the following night at First Ave (The Decemberists) that I think I'm going to see. That BLS show is always within days of something else I want to see.

Not defensive nor offended. Just saying, my concert schedule is too full for me to see all the bands I want to see, much less a band I'm "meh" about.

" Love Me Do"

" Please Please Me"

These songs, much like The Doors' "Roadhouse Blues", do in fact feature harmonica prominently.

It's just a repetetive riff played over and over and over, though.

The works of Elwood Blues would be much more satisfying for the harmonica player.

Stevie Wonder - For Once in My Life

Love that song.

Also, Stevie released an album under the pseudonym Eivets Rednow (his name backwards) that was an instrumental harmonica album. I never heard it, but for a harmonica fan, I'd imagine it would be pretty focking good.

Muddy Waters - Mannish Boy

Paul Buttersfield - Anything!

Get the Last Waltz by The Band. It has an excellant version of Muddy Waters doing Mannish Boy with the Band. It also has Paul Butterfield doing Mystery Train with them. Mystery Train is a glorious song.
