Anyone Starting New England Backfield This Week?

Recommended Posts

The way Willie Parker ran all over Cincinatti last week, makes me think the Patriots gameplan is going to run it down their throat. Anyone else considering to start Dillon and Maroney due to bye weeks or bad options?

I only have Maroney and will be sitting him in spite of the potentially solid numbers. I think that if Dillon can play, he will get the carries against his old team, and will run just a little bit harder for that reason. Instead I'll be starting C. Taylor against the exploitable Bills' run D. If I hear that Dillon's out befor the game, Maroney becomes a must start in my book...

Dillon pretty much cost me a win last week.. got beaten by 1 point and I imagine had he stayed in the game he would have gotten me at least one point to tie.

That being said, he's had some rest and I'm considering him to start against cinci, but I'm waiting to hear more about his health this week.

I would be careful about the Bills D they have been playing very good with out their two best players. One is out for the year but I think TKO comes back this week.

I'm for the most part in agreement with you here, Buffalo has been better than I expected on the defensive side of the ball, but their strength is still against the pass. New England ran pretty well against them, and Minny has a pretty solid O line. If Chester can put up 74 yards against the Bears, I think that 100 and a TD is not out of line against the Bills. I'm going with Chester because he will get the carries, not something you can necessarily say about Maroney. That said, as I noted above, if Dillon is pronounced out, 30 min before the game, I'll be starting Laurence in a second...

Just found this on SI's site...you might be interested:

CHESTER TAYLOR Vikings AT Bills

Taylor played himself into the doghouse late on Sunday against Chicago. His costly fumble -- and Mewelde Moore's running -- landed Taylor on the bench when the game was on the line. Moore, a coach's dream, has been a perpetual thorn in the side of anyone owning a Minnesota back. Proceed with caution.

I'm thinking of starting Maroney over Gore or Green...leaning toward Gore after the trouble he's had holding on to the ball. I'm not sure yet. It looks like Maroney might put up better numbers if Dillon's in the game. He didn't look ready to handle the whole load when Dillon went out last weekend.

I also lost by 1 point. But started Maroney. The last drive killed me. They had faulk in the whole time, as they needed to pass and I guess Faulk is a better option out of the backfield?

Anyway this week I am deciding between Maroney, Green and Rhodes. Leaning towards Green I guess.

Mewelde had a couple of good runs true, but Mewelde is the 3rd down back and it seems to me that they used mewelde when running the no-huddle O. I doubt this affects Chester's value much. I haven't read anywhere else about Chester being in the doghouse, and that fumble was as much Brad Johnson's fault (he was credited for it) as Chester's. Chester was starting to run well against the vaunted Chicago D before the fumble and subsequent score forced Minny to go into the no-huddle. After reading through the rest of SI's starts and sits, it looks to me like they're trying to throw a couple of counter-conventional-wisdom picks out there, and Chester fit their criteria. (They also say to sit Chris Chambers against Houston! Now I have little to no confidence in Daunte, but Houston made Brunell look like a top-flight QB last game, and I have little doubt that Chambers will be able to put up solid numbers against the Texans as well.) Regardless, you can't take this stuff as gospel, they have to pick someone to sit down (although I can think of some guys who have much worse matchups in my book)...

I'm not contending that Chester's a lock, far from it, he could throw out another 20-80 yards with 15 recieving games out there. Will I file this information away when making my final starting assignments, I'll consider it (I also have K. Jones competing for the #2 spot).

My point was, that with Maroney there's no guarentee that he'll get the carries. I love his talent, but if Dillon is running wild all over his old team, Maroney will probably take a back seat to Corey, for this game at least. When making start/sit decisions, I almost always go with the guy who is going to get the guarenteed touches...for that reason, I'm considering Chester first.

Huh.. good dialogue guys.. i have both NE backs and for now, Maroney i in. I'll keep an eye on the sitch. (like we'll learn anything from NEs deal anyway :bench: ).

I agree that Maroney didn't look great, but that was to be expected against DEN's quick front.

I don't put much stock in the whole, old team deal with Dillon -- most've 'em are prob. gone already, same with the coaching staff.

I hope so too, the sooner Maroney proves he's the man to carry the ball in NE, the better as far as I'm concerned...sadly, we won't know who's starting and if Dillon's playing at all until they play the game. I owned Dillon last year, and Belichick's gaming the injury system killed me...
