Has any QB in history ever had a better first season?

Recommended Posts

I know Rivers has LT which makes the world of a difference, but has any qb started off their career with stronger numbers and that few ints?

Even Peyton had 20+ td's his first year in the league. Not that Rivers is Manning, but I think he will crack the top 5 next year.

I guess Kurt Warner had an amazing first year as a starter, but can anyone else name a player with better stats than Rivers for a first year QB?

Dan Marino

1983...2210 yards, 20 TD's, 6 int's.

followed that up with

5084 yds, 48 TD's, 17 int's.

So, if Rivers can come close to those numbers next year, he'll be the steal of the draft.

First year? He came out with Ben and Eli.

Steal of the draft? Wasn't he like a top 3 pick?

First year starter. He did come out with Ben and Eli and destroyed both this year in stats. Both of those teams have a stud rb and MUCH better wr's than Rivers.

In Rivers first 3 games this year he only tossed the ball 15 times a game on average, still finished the season as our 7th best qb in my league. Heck of a start for the 24 year old..

Great stats. Even though I do not think he is a "Marino", Rivers had more FF points this year than Marino had his first starting year. Any other qb's that anyone else can remember that had those type of stats as a first year starter?

Tom Brady

14 games started

63.9%

2843 yards

18 TD's

12 INT

Not great numbers but he did win a SB that 1st year

Rivers hopes to follow Brady that way at least.

Warner had nice #'s that year. Rivers wishes he had his wr's those years..... Dont tell me that Vincent Jackson makes a team worried about anything.

Being a philly fan and that the season is over, I guess your fishing idea looks to be genius, but oh well. I just noticed that he was tied with brady in points this year and as a first year starter put up numbers that would have made Young be the next montana at this point.

Tommy Maddox?

puh-lease...

As I'm an Eagles fan this should have been easy! The Chunky Soup eatin', down-south pukin', watchin' from the sidelines as we won our 5th NFC East title in 6 years....DMac!

Yea, that was a joke. DMac, Cpep and warner are the three that come to mind. DMac did his #'s with about the same talent that rivers has a wr. Cpep and warner had some studs on teams that had carter, bruce and moss.

Those cpep # are insane. My guess is he will be one of the best ever.........

No wonder Saban got out before he could live up to that mistake.

well,

if you go by first year as a starter, technically you could put in:

2936 yds

16 tds

8 INTs

777 rushing

8 rushing tds

since this guy only "started" 2 games in the previous year even though he played in 8.

yup, a little research (or intuitive knowledge) would have prevented this from even getting started...

I meant FANTASY draft next year for Rivers.

True, but you could also argue that the Chargers got a steal when the dealt Eli for Rivers and more. Between that and trading down (passing on Vick) to get LT (and Brees) they have made some of the best personell moves in recent history.

Yep, them and the Colts have made great decisions in the last 10 years..

I forgot but who was it that the colts passed on to get Manning? Leaf? ( Leaf was the last bad decision that SD made )

Kurt Warner: 4353 41 13, a SB and league MVP. Culpepper 3937 + 470 rushing, 40 total TDs to 16 ints. And Tom Brady won a SB and a SB MVP.
