gunnergip 0 Posted February 22, 2007 As I am sure many of you know, Willis McGahee has pretty much outstayed his welcome in Buffalo. Right around the Super Bowl Willis stated that he wanted to move the team to Toronto which then triggered the Buffalo Bills website to respond by stating, "we are in the midst of looking for a true every down back." I can only formulate/speculate that this means Willis is more than likely to end up somewhere else. Rumors have been swirling around about this for some time and rotoworld seems to think that the Giants, Jets, Broncos and Falcons are all in the running. Saying that he does end up on one of these teams for 2007, where does he move up on your draft board? I got him easily in the top 10 if he goes to Denver. 1,500 yards and 15 tds for the former 'Cane. Thoughts?
jocstrap 8 Posted February 22, 2007 Bronco's is where I would love to see him for fantasy football - Jocstrap's #1 choice Jets - I just don't see them letting him go to the same conference Giants - I could also see this happening and would route for this move Falcons - Dunn, Mcgahee, Norwood - - too crowded for this option Or could all this be a bunch of Mularky? Is the A-train their #2 still? If so that ain't going to cut it.
Boston 0 Posted February 22, 2007 Playing the speculation game...I could easily see him joining fellow Canes Reed and Lewis in Baltimore. That just seems like the right team for him.

DocNiner 57 Posted February 22, 2007 I think the Broncos could end up being the big winner in the rb meat market. Obviously there's going to be several backs they could have a shot. McGahee, Jamal Lewis just to name a few. Looking more and more like Lewis will be let go in Baltimore. Shanny likes a bigger back. They have a progressing young QB in Cutler and he has some weapons on offense with the likes of Javon Walker,Rod Smith, promising rookies Brandon Marshall and TE Tony Scheffler. I think landing one of these available backs who have had good seasons in the past will be critical if Denver wants to make a run at San Diego in the West and have a shot at the playoffs. I wouldn't call Rod Smith a "weapon" anymore. I think Baltimore is indeed a real possibility here for McGahee. I think Denver will do something else with the position and the Giants and Falcons probably won't be players in this.
gunnergip 0 Posted February 22, 2007 Packers maybe? Ahman is clearly on his last legs and there's no heir apparent currently on the roster. Pretty sure the Pack is happy with Vernon Morency as a possible starter and will more than likely be targeting Marshawn Lynch in the draft. I do not see Ahman there anymore, but also do not see Willis there.
Groundhog 24 Posted February 22, 2007 Playing the speculation game...I could easily see him joining fellow Canes Reed and Lewis in Baltimore. That just seems like the right team for him. I can't see him on the Ravens for cap reasons...they are having a hard time as it is to get Adalius Thomas under the cap (franchised or otherwise), and his salary is probably in the $7 million range. Still he can provide some vet leadership and I think he'll be nothing more than a #3 receiver at best for Denver. I don't think it would hurt Denver much either if they released him. Walker , Marshall and even Scheffler should all have more targets than Smith. Most likely Lewis is gone so it would behoove the Ravens to pursue McGahee. Getting him would increase their chances of winning the division again and making a deep run in the playoffs.
football_scooter 0 Posted February 22, 2007 Perhaps I'm the only one who noticed that McGahee sucked last year? All this gushing about a plodder with below average hands and speed...I think wherever he goes he'll be a bust compared to the expectations placed on him, and like this year I will continue to avoid him like the plague. I do not see Ahman there anymore, but also do not see Willis there. Morency is not an every down back. If Ahman is gone, they have virtually no depth at RB. If McGahee can be had for a reasonable salary, they would be stupid to pass on him.
gunnergip 0 Posted February 23, 2007 It had been over ten minutes since your last post ripping this guy. I was starting to worry. I love how these "rippings" never have actual evidence. At any rate, McGahee did not suck last year (960 yds and 6tds), but rather did not meet expectations; the Bills in general did not. I think that if McGahee were on another team, such as Balt. or Denver, he would shine. There is no doubt that the guy is a solid player. Being stuck in Buffalo is extremely hurting his cause. I believe McGahee is still under his rookie contract for one more year so I don't think the cap is an issue this year. Extending him could be a different story. I do not see Ahman there anymore, but also do not see Willis there. If they were happy with Morency, why would they take an RB with their first pick? Id much rather have McGahee and be able to use that pick for another need (TE or Safety). Ahman still could be back...obviously depends on how much another team would be willing to spend and how much he thinks he can get out of the Packers. He has said he will test the free agent market but would like to stay in Green Bay.

yostevo 0 Posted February 23, 2007 I've heard nothing on the subject but the Lions need some insurance for KJ. Move KJ into the Reggie Bush role of receiver/parttime runner and you prolong his career.

yostevo 0 Posted February 23, 2007 too much money for a RB. he will demand an extension right away RB is not a position of importance? I'd say with KJ's track record that you have to do something to solidify the position for the forseeable future.

I agree with Scooter on this one. Relatively speaking McGahee sucked last year. I had the misfortune of watching more than my share of bills games after taking Willis in the 2nd. He lacks ALL of the explosion that he had two years ago and after all the pre-season talk about involving him in the passing game he was pretty much a non-factor there. A. Thomas looked as good if not better. The average life span of productivity is so short for an NFL Rb and I think Willis' was even shorter. Given the right situation I wouldnt rule out him having a few more good years but I wouldnt bet on it. I wont be looking to draft him this year regardless and if I was an NFL GM I wouldnt even think about offering the kind of contract that Willis and Rosenhaus will likely be looking for. Shockey fan 0 Posted February 25, 2007 Not sure McGahee is really that good fo a RB to be honest. Doesn't have top speed. Lacks movement in the hole. Banged and nicked up quite a bit. Is he really a large upgrade to give up a first day pick for? I would rather take my chance with a rookie back.
gunnergip 0 Posted February 25, 2007 Well as reported on ESPN yesterday, the NYG are in the running for McGahee and see him carrying the ball 20 or so times while Jacbos carries the ball at around the same numbers. If he were to get traded though, McGahee, I really do not see him going anywhere with this type of situatiuon. While some of us may think he does not deserve this role or is not good enough he will seek it none the less. If he does not go to a team where he is the featured back he will remain a Bill for another season. In other news, the Broncos are after Thomas Jones, but the Bears want two first day picks in return...something Broncos have a lot of (first day picks). I could see getting a "lightning" type undersized speed back for 3rd down/passing down situations, and as a nice change of pace to the massive Jacobs thundering style. I don't see putting another plodder in the backfield. The "change of number" rather than change of pace strategy? I think NYG would be best served to take a mid-round RB pick than spend a bunch of money or deal picks for McGahee. But then, I also thought they would have been better served taking Rivers and keeping their picks 2 years ago, so what do I know.
Ace08 11 Posted February 26, 2007 Some very misinformed people in this thread... I'm not sure Walter Payton could have done much better with J.P Losman as his QB and a horrible Offensive Line that's been in place since he was drafted. I've been on these boards for a while...I only post about players I know well and McGahee is one of them. Remember I was the one calling Winslow as a top 5 tight end last year and I also gave everyone on this board the heads up about Frank Gore YEARS ago... Mark my words...McGahee will absolutely EXPLODE if he goes to a team with a decent QB and average to above average O-Line. Denver? He'll push 2000 total yards. Let's dispel some of these false rumors before they fester into fact...1) He's plenty fast 2) He's a tough inside runner 3) He's got better hands than any of you have seen so far cause he has been under-utilized in this area. Also keep in mind he's a former Cane and their track record of producing top notch NFL RB's is unprecendented. This kid scored 28 TD's his last year at UM. TWENTY-EIGHT. Neither Portis, Gore, Edge, or any other UM RB has ever approached those numbers. Keep in mind that was in 2002, not the legendary 2001 team with 3 All Americans on their O-Line. Once again I'll go on record as saying this kid will be a top 3 fantasy RB if he's in a good situation. He's a true every down back.
