Packers RB ?

Recommended Posts

!

(Miree is a fullback. You could also mention Deshawn Wynn)

Anyway, Morency is pretty talented himself, and it'll likely be shared, at least at the beginning.

 Vernand Morency  Noah Herron :first: Brandon Miree  Brandon Jackson

Morency/Jackson RBBC. Plus, the Packers will be so far behind by half time that Favre will be throwing the entire second hald.

of BJ. reminds me of edgerrin james/terrell davis. shifty, not overly fast but quick, quick burst, hits hole hard....much like terrell davis entering a zone blocking scheme where hell fit perfect should help him become a great NFL back.

maybe not this year but next or the yr after next, BJ will be a 2nd/1st rd fantasy choice

why will they be so far behind... from where im sitting their defense is lookin pretty damn good. only problem is at safety.

The Packers have a RB?

In all seriousness though, I'd give the nod to Jackson. It's at least his job to lose because he's got the potential to be special, whereas you pretty much know what to expect from his competition. People seem to be reaching for Lynch in the "Juggernaut" Buffalo offense, but I'd expect Jackson to be the rookie RB leaving owners who were smart enough to grab him late with smiles on their faces.

At least I hope so. As I was one of the first to drink the kool-aid and grabbed him :ninja:

Herron sucks and Miree is a fullback. Probably a 60/40 split of Morency/Jackson to start the year moving more toward a flipped split by the end of the year.

Herron and Miree---- :D not even worth thinking about

Morency and Jackson

It's expected that these two will split carries. Neither one has proven they can carry the load. It looks like the plan is a RBBC behind a still developing zone blocking scheme. Jackson has a little bit of an injury history, but he runs tough, good feet, and cutback vision. He has poor break away speed though. Morency has been a career backup. He's beefed up in the offseason. But he has never shown anything too impressive in the past when given opportunities.

Dark horse: D.Wynn--- a late draft pick this year. Very good talent, out of Florida. Has had character issues.

Jackson is just like Travis Henry when he came out of Tennessee, and runs just like the former Bill/Titan (with similar skill sets and strengths). They will try to develop him this year with minimal immediate expectations. He is a good back to have in a dynasty, but not in a redraft.

The only thing I've seen on BJ is the highlight on youtube, but if he turns out to be like Travis Henry, I will be very happy as a Packer fan. I think Henry is very tough runner and have thought that he has never got his due with the teams he's been on in the pros.

Bently it sounds like you are predicting less than 140 carries this year for him. Do you think this to be the case?

Just like last year right? :pointstosky:

And the defense should be improved over last years.

Wow. You really don't know anything about football, do you? Maybe you clicked on this page looking for soccer updates or something.

Well off the top of my head that is around what I would expect. I think you'll see him get lots of looks on passing situations and third downs as well though. You could see him catch 40 balls this year. If he got around 150 carries at 4.0 ypc that's 600 rush yards. Couple that to 40 catches for (let's say) 7 yards/catch (a low ball estimate) and you got 280 yards. Almost 900 yards and a few scores sounds right to me. I don't think Morency is a stud or anything, but he's definately good enough to keep Jackson's production limited - at least in his first season while he's growing in an offence that Morency is already familiar with.

Unless Jackson beats out Morency in camp, I think Jackson will start the year as the backup RB for the Pack. As long as Jackson picks up the offense, I'm thinking he'll have more of an expanded role.

It's going to be a committe early, with Morency the likely starter. By the end of the year, things could change a lot in either direction, but alot has to happen between now and then. Until we know more, I'm keeping both guys low on my cheatsheet.

Nice video. But I have to say, it’s more a testament to the FB and the blocking scheme than B-Jack (can we call him B-Jack? as opposed to BJ?). Yes he hits the holes hard but just look at the holes. I could get those yards with that kind of space. Mind you after the first hit I would be out for the season with a broken/torn/pulled everything, but that’s another story.

Will he have this kind of running room in GB? I don’t know, I think he may have a decent year. I think his team will hold him down to being just an average producer at best assuming he is the starter at all. But hey, in round 7 if you can get a 10 point a week back as your #4 I think it’s worth it. I'm just not taking him higher than that, and I wouldn’t take him as my #3 unless I was desperate.

Morency has the edge going into camp,I thinkits his job to lose. Last year he only started 2 games but he still had 96 carries for 434 yds for a 4.5 average, plus 17 receptions for 118 2 td's total. That is enough of a sample size for the packers to think he could be good for 20 total touches a game. I think he could be an underappreciated flex player this year, and a steal in later rounds.

Probably because the coaches are trying to win football games and not just build a fantasy team. Guys that play their roles well and contribute on special teams are important. He may never be the starting running back, but I don't remember Steve Tasker starting anywhere either, and he's dang near a HoF'er.

the blocking scheme in nebraska is similiar to the zone blocking in GB. in zone blocking, theres almost always a hole, but it could be anywhere. whereas in scripted blocking which most teams use, theres a designated spot where a hole will be attempted to be made. this is why BJ will be a great back for the scheme because he has the vision and cutback ability to find and hit the holes wherever they are. this is why it seems like he has so much room...not because its always wide open but because he finds and hits slots in the line where the zone blocking is effective.

thats a terrible comparison because, like you said, tasker was unbelievable on ST. find me a place on the field herron contributes like that. every yr hes like 4th or 5th on the depth chart at RB....not sure how hes still on the team.

He's better or cheaper than any other 4th string RB out there?

Why are you getting your panties in a bunch while talking about a 4th string RB? Someone has to be last on the depth chart. You know his name don't you? How many other guys can you name who are 4th string RBs? They don't need a Jim Brown to sit on the bench.

The video doesn't impress. The OL is making giant holes for him, The defensive tacking sucks and when they do get a hand on him he goes down fast.
