Patrick Crayton

Recommended Posts

Every projection I've seen for Crayton has him in the 4-5 rec, 50 yds, 0 TD ballpark. I have a hard time believing, with tomorrow's game looking likely to be a fairly high-scoring affair, that he's going to experience such a drop-off compared to the past two weeks.

Am I the only one struggling to see Crayton as a relatively poor start this week? I mean, I just can't make myself bench him.

The projections I use have him as the #19 WR, but at 4 for 45 w/ a TD

I am starting him because I think New England will focus on shutting down TO and Witten (who has arguably been Dallas' best weapon).

I have an opportunity to pick up Berrian and drop Crayton, but I have a feeling if Dallas is going to be successfull it will be with passes to their least damaging threat which is Crayton?

I guess it depends on your options. But in most cases I'd start him. I'm not sure why you look at projections. I look at them after the week is played and wonder how the projections could've been so far off.

I pretty much just look at projections out of curiosity. It's only when I start seeing a theme between 3-4 sites that I begin to wonder if maybe I'm missing something, which is the case here.

The defense of NE is about even at stopping the #1 WR, good at stopping the #2 WR, and superb at shutting down the #3 WR. However, they are absolutely awful at shutting down the TE. If you assume that Witten is the #2 WR, the NE has a whopping 67% success rate at shutting down the #3 WR, i.e. Crayton.

I don't think you can switch positions around like that. Crayton lines up as #2 WR and is guarded by certain players. A TE is covered by a completely different set of players. It's not like they will put a CB on Witten and cover Crayton with a LB or safety.

Football Outsiders' analysis of the Patriots secondary looks pretty solid. The failure in the analysis, I think, starts with FO neglecting the intangibles. A missing element lies with Crayton's game form. He has been playing very well lately. I watched the entire Bills game. Crayton caught everything thrown his way. He ran crisp routes and blocked well. After catching balls, he rumbled through the Bills secondary with above average speed and a stone determination to grind out the extra yards. The dude is playing with a lot, and I mean a lot , of maturity.

I am not a Crayton owner, but I am jealous of those who grabbed him off the wire. Even if he doesn't do well against NE, I'd love to own him. Dallas is going to score through the air in bunches this season.

I'm kind of mad at myself for not seeing how obvious of a pickup Crayton was.

Thanks for that analysis, I was thinking of picking up Berrian this week to start and dropping Crayton (no room on my roster and need the best week start). You stopped me from pulling the trigger so far.

For me, it's Crayton or Reggie Brown. Obviously Crayton of those two, I think, but there is a wild card.

My league gives 1 pt per 10 return yards. Marques Hagans is the rams 3rd WR this week and also their KR/PR -- the guy he's filling in for, Dante Hall, has scored the 8th most points among WRs in my league fulfilling that role. I feel like I can count on Hagans for 8-10 pts at least, so I sort of want to start him, but I have a pretty hard time benching Crayton.

Right now I'm starting Crayton as my #3 over Galloway. Galloway's done nothing for the last 2 weeks, and Tennessee's D is pretty good. I expect the New England - Dallas game to be high scoring and the focus to be on TO and/or Witten, so maybe Crayton can have a big game. I don't think New England can completely shut down that offence.

Greg Jennings acored in 3 straight weeks, but this site hasn't projected a TD out of him yet. Also if I listened to projections, I would not have started Kenton Keith last week.

Go with your gut. Treat projections like opinions, since that's all they are.

rankings and projections are useless....I'll read everyone's opinion on rankem sites, but never pay attention to their ranking

Well, yeah. It seems safe to assume that this game will be a shootout. But the question for me is, which Romo will show up? The one from the first half of the Buffalo game, or the good one? Part of my hesitation to start Crayton is the fear that the Pats will "expose" Romo to some extent and, consequently, Crayton will lay an egg. He seems like he could easily put up big numbers, but I can also see them getting shut down pretty much. That's why I'm currently favoring someone who has a lower ceiling but is more reliable to at least put up decent numbers.

I just dropped Crayton for Santana Moss. S.Moss is now my WR5. (10 team league, only start 2 WR). I'm starting Berrian this week with Roy Williams on bye). I really wanted to hold Crayton b/c I have Romo and I don't want to face Crayton sometime this year when he goes off again (QBs only get 4 for passing TD in this league; yes I fear the cancel out theory when they face my QB). I just think Santana Moss is going to outscore Crayton for the rest of the year.

I have Crayton in my lineup over Berrian and Roddy White.

I agree with the other poster that Crayton has looked good lately.

Berrian left last week's game with a toe injury and missed some practice this week.

Alanta was terrible last week, and the Giants D has been playing well.

The Chargers, Bills, and Browns (NE opponents) don't have much in the way of #2 WR's. Housh put up 100 and a TD and Cotchery had 57 yards. It's too early in the season to rely on a stat like that.

Romo has to go to someone, and I have a feeling that NE will focus their strengths in shutting down T.O. and Witten, since they are the main targets in the Dallas O.

Im playing Crayton over Jennings in one league..... that was a tough one, and even starting Sam Hurd in another 14 team league.

How did Crayton work out for you this week?

Decent. Believe it or not he is my #1 WR now. I just traded away Owens and Hasselbeck for B.Westbrook. Obviously they are going to chuck the ball vs the Vikings this week, I am playing the team I traded Owens to. Call me crazy, but I think Crayton will match him this week.
