yostevo 0 Posted December 12, 2007 A: Selvin Young Great matchup on Thursday night. Parker has been a yardage machine but against tough Ds (JAX) he's pretty much worthless because he doesn't score TDs and isn't involved in the passing game all that much. I would not bench Parker for Young. The Denver situation is not ideal to be doing that IMO. But obviously that is your decision. I am benching Parker for Ryan Grant. I am benching Parker for Ryan Grant. Grant is a no brainer. Selvin is a riskier play but Young was the man even before last week. He started the previous week and Henry only got the TD and those touches in that game because Selvin got nicked up early otherwise he was going to be huge in that game as well. He was running up and down the field the last two games.

I honestly never saw all the BS about him and rotating backs in aimlessly and spontaneously until this season when I own both Henry and Selvin. Having watched the situation closely I just can't start Young. Even if he gets really good rush yards (not a definate) you have to consider Henry coming in at the goaline, in addition to getting the ball inside the red zone. If Henry gets hot you Shanny will go with him. I'd rather bench hthem both and watch the game knowing there is nothing on the line, it will only frustrate me further. murf74 461 Posted December 12, 2007 sure, bench a guy that gets almost all the carries for a guy who could be inactive for all we know in Young (who gets pulled at the goalline anyway)
yostevo 0 Posted December 12, 2007 sure, bench a guy that gets almost all the carries for a guy who could be inactive for all we know in Young (who gets pulled at the goalline anyway) You forgot to mention that Parker also gets benched at the goaline and is going up against a very tough run D. 11/05/07 vs. Baltimore 23 carries for 42 yards 0 TDs 9/16/06 vs. JAX 11 for 20 yards 0 TDs 11/26/06 vs. Baltimore 10 for 22 yards 0 TDs 12/24/06 vs. Baltimore 13 for 29 yards 0 TDs 10/16/05 vs. JAX 21 for 55 0 TDs There's an obvious history of failure vs. top flight run Ds. It's not so cut and dry as you would suggest. You can't be a lemming to the "don't bench your studs" theory. Especially since Parker is not a stud this year. Selvin may be risky, but he certainly has a better chance at higher end numbers than Parker IMO.
dcgangstas 41 Posted December 12, 2007 I"m benching FWP for Jamal Lewis. That was a well spent 5th round pick. I looked at the Browns' schedule down the stretch and gambled that Lewis would pick up steam; boy, has he. Hoping for big things from my RB tandem this week (McGahee vs. Miami, Lewis vs. Buffalo). StrikeGold 0 Posted December 12, 2007 Starting Grant, Peterson, and Gore. Sitting Fast Willie. Tough choice between Gore and Parker, but on some rare occassions, Gore gets in the endzone.
RSersen 0 Posted December 12, 2007 Short term: Don't expect much out of Parker the rest of this season, or at least not against JAX or BAL. He does struggle against the top run defenses..even as a biased Steelers and FWP fan, I can't deny that. Also, Parker leads the league in rushing, but he also leads the league in carries. They haven't technically clinched a playoff berth yet, but once they do, I expect that Parker will be one of the first starters who sees some significant rest...won't be benched, but Davenport will likely take over a lot of the load to let Willie recharge his batteries for the playoffs. Long term: Don't draft Parker again for as long as Bruce Arians is the offensive coordinator. Guy is an idiot. He refuses to throw the ball to Parker, or even run Parker to the outside, which is where he focking earned the nickname "Fast Willie". You may get yardage out of Willie, but don't expect touchdowns. Parker is almost always pulled in goal line or red zone situations, and the team almost always tries to pass for the TD. I've put a lot of thought into why a team that prides itself on the run doesn't run in the redzone. I've only been able to come to one conclusion: Arians wants to parlay this job into a head coaching position...and he's using statistics to do it. Right now Ben is on pace to throw 33 TD passes, and would have the 2nd highest passer rating in the NFL. That's a far cry from the Ben of 06 (with the motorcycle wreck and all). Parker, barring an explosion from Peterson down the stretch, could win the rushing title...he'll at least win the AFC rushing title. Some idiot owner of a team with a head coaching vacancy is going to look at those numbers and be impressed, and will give the guy a job. However, if Arians somehow comes back next season, stay clear of Parker (as I said) ..but treat Ben as a top 5 QB (if you're not already). As long as Arians runs the show, Ben gets the TD, Parker gets the yardage. Period. /rant

Shanny says he wants to use all 3 and you have no idea what side of the bed he gets up on. But please don't post stats from 3 seasons ago, that's just stupid. Electric Uncle Sam 0 Posted December 12, 2007 I dont think I can do it, but I am considering benching him for Fargas if he is healthy....seems to risky though
yostevo 0 Posted December 12, 2007 But please don't post stats from 3 seasons ago, that's just stupid. These are Willy's last 5 games vs. what has been considered the top run defenses of the last 3 years. It's an obvious trend that's worth noting. He doesn't produce, and he does that consistently. How is that not relevant asshat? Denial isn't just a river.

Bruised ribs for an RB is bad news. Especially on a team going nowhere. However, I do subscribe to the "no guts no glory" ideology.
