We need to get rid of him. Next year is his walk year and he already has said he wants to be closer to his home in texas. I think we need to try to trade him to dallas or the texans for draft picks. Then package the picks to move up in the draft(maybe the pats pick) to get either Mcfadden or Jake Long.

He is the best player you have so if you are looking to start over you are right. I would try to sign him to a long term contract first. How much do you think you would get for him?

Neither McFadden or Long(either one) will be there at #6 the Pats pick...and as far as trading Williams///you'd be lucky to get a mid 2nd pick...lucky

They pick 7th. The Jets pick 6th.

He is not going to re-sign with us. He would rather become a UFA and go to one of the texas teams. I don't even know what we would be able to get for him. I am thinking a 2nd round draft pick. We need to do something or we are going to lose a good WR and not get anything in return for him.

Sorry wrong forum. We do not have any lydown fans here....we do have piss-ton, tigger & dead thing fans though. :music_guitarred:

I can't give up on them. I am a dirty D fan through and through. The only thing that makes it bearable is the fact that 3 out of our 4 teams are really good.

I don't think he ever said that

Any "good" organization would bring him in and try to give him a contract extention. If they can't do that they move him.

they already invested too much money at the WR position. They should trade him for a draft pick or a defender To Jackson ville for Mike Peterson and a 2nd round pick would make sense

I think they will try and trade williams (and shaun rogers as well) prior to the draft. I dont think anyone gives up a first rounder for either (unless its late in the round) but a second rounder (and perhaps a later round pick) isnt out of the question.

I wouldn't trade him for a top 10 pick. He's an elite receiver. They should sign him. He's their best player.

yeah, but they are (perpetually I know) a couple rebuilding years away from having the O-line and QB to best utilize his skills. Trading him will help speed up the (yes, perpetual) rebuild. That way, the WR they draft in the first round in 2009 has a chance to suceed and be on a decent team sometime by 2012.

Just b/c next year he becomes a FA doesn't mean they can trade him that easily. He'd need to sign for a long term contract with another team first. But if they can get something for him now, they should. First of all, he will leave next year, no doubt about it.....nobody's going to stay in Detroit if they can get out and get paid in the process. Second of all, Detroit just dropped Martz and promoted a horrible replacement, the Lions still employ Millen, and they're still owned by the Fords. There's no reason to keep Roy this year if they can get something since the Lions are going nowhere in 2008.

I feel sorry for all Lions fans as the Organization obviously does not care about them at all.

How about the Pats trade you a 4th rounder for him? :pointstosky:

Let's not get all puffed up b/c this year all the stars aligned for the Pats okay guy? TIA

It is a reference to the Moss trade.

You guys are talking about Pats fans being insecure, but you folks think that we should just stop posting about anything. I would suggest that you folks take a healthy dose of "Go Fock Yourself". TIA.

Trade him to the Titans. We'll give you a GREAT young CB.

This is exactly what I'm thinking. Pacman has turned over a new leaf

This is the correct answer. It seems Detroit fans think just like team management. RW is the only stud on our team we better get rid of him.

Now if he won't sign a contarct extention then trade him.

This only a beat writers opinion of course.

MLive.com's Tom Kowalski believes the Lions will dangle Roy Williams in trade talks leading up to April's NFL Draft.

Williams will enter a contract year in 2008 and Kowalski expects him to leave in 2009 if the Lions can't execute a trade. If Williams is dealt, Calvin Johnson would take over as Detroit's "No. 1" receiver. Williams, the No. 7 overall pick in 2004, should at least command a second-round pick as compensation.

they don't need to trade up. they can get a player at 15 to fill any number of needs--cb, lb, rb, ol...

So if they get rid of ROY will that open the door to drafting a 1st round WR? Or is that not a door..but an ever lasting hole in the wall?

Question to Lion fans...is Williams a guy that is totally focused? Obviously I don't see him every week (so I maybe totally off base here) but when I do it seems like he's doing his own thing and not overly concerned about winning. The guy has some serious skills but if you're going to resign him to the money he will command you want to make sure he's mature enough to be a building block for a team that needs some leadership to get over the hump.

i don't have any problem with roy. he's been dinged up here and there, but other than that he's a good guy. he gets blasted for saying certain things but he's not mouthing off out of any kind of arrogance or hate.

but if the lions have to trade him they have to trade him. i don't know if it's as likely as people seem to think it is...i'm sure they're doing whatever they can to get as many picks as they can in next year's draft, so they'll listen to offers. but it's not like they have some gun to their head with the situation.

Why the hell would a team trade for a guy who will become an UFA? Makes no sense...ain't gonna happen.

He's gonna leave after next season, gay-RONE-teed. And playing closer to home in Texas makes too much sense, especially considering T.O. will be an UFA next season as well.

The Lions took a few baby steps this year and an improved record proves that but they are still a long, long way from being an NFC contender. Roy only stays after next year if the defense improves, the OL improves and they get another QB. Jon Kitna is not the answer. Great leader, nice enough guy but the cold hard facts are that he's not accurate enough, he takes too many sacks and is a turnover machine. You can't win consistenly that way. He'd be a great back up to have.

I honestly think winning is the determining factor. If they have a chance in 09', he'll stick around. I agree with Mack, the Lions would never get value for a potential UFA of his status.

So more than likely they lose him and get nothing because they probably finish under .500 again. I've been a Lion's fan for far too long and it kills me watching them start to get the pieces in place only to start all over again.

Not really sure the new O.C. is the right fit and not sure their defense will get enought improvement for them to compete. They need more offensive line help and maybe a durable r.b. All signs point towards a step back next year as much as I'd like to be a homer and say they got a real chance at 10-6.

Then we lose Roy which is one of the pieces we've spent way too much time (Thank you Matt Millen) trying to put in place. If we lose Roy does Millen then go out and draft a first round wr for another 3 straight years? :music_guitarred:
