Thomas Jones... the newest addition to the first round

Recommended Posts

to me, brett favre instantly makes this offense credible, and jones a stud. Favre has always liked to check down to his RBs, plus the fact that defenses now have to respect the deep ball (something that was non existent with pennington/clemens).

i'm going to say i both agree and disagree for a couple reasons.

1- I agree with the fact that he becomes a great #2 back and that he moves up on the draft board. He'll rack up some more yardage in both the run and passing games. Favre does make defenses respect the pass espcially with a couple of capable WR's like the Jets have.

2- I diasagree that he becomes anywhere near the first round......c'mon let's be real. Don't forget a little fella by the name of Leon Washington in the backfield on just about all passing downs.

BWAHAHAHAH what did he do find the endzone what once or twice last year? Because Favruh is the QB he is going to become a goaline back now? :dunno:

Very comical

No, the fact that they picked up Alan Faneca, Damien Woody, and Tony Richardson in the off season makes him a viable goal line option. The fact that they have Favre along with two stud WR no longer makes Jones the first option to stop for defenses.

That being said, I think that the first round is still too high, but late second / early thrid round is not out of the question.

Sigh. I thought Thomas Jones was very undervalued where he was being taken. Now it appears people are probably going to overvalue him. Was hoping to steal him in the 4th or 5th round. :dunno:

I think he moved up 1.5 rounds from this news, but no way in hell he's going in the first.

Where does he move up to? I was hoping to grab him mid 4th...does he move up to an early 3rd???

My thoughts exactly. I was able to snatch him in the 4th or 5th in most mocks I've participated in, but I'm afraid he'll be gone by mid third now.

Right, I think he will get more TD's than last year have him down for 6, but the fact that Favre signed isn't going to make me bump his TD total up to double digits

I just bumped T.Jones from 21rst to 17th on my RB rankings.

First round?

I still have the likes of Reggie Bush, Earnest Graham, and LenDale White above him.

No way is he a first rounder. You can argue about taking him if you have the 1st or 2nd pick, maybe then you grab him early third. Any time sooner is a reach IMO.

Yeah, Favre may have ruined his sleeper-ness value which sucks.

I think they did enough for him to be a real value before Favre entered the picture.

You guys really need to take a Farve induced Valium. He really isn't that good anymore and hasn't been.

I agree, Favre no longer makes the players around him better, he needs good players around him to be good at this stage of his career.

Yeah, maybe, but Brett Favre > Clemens/Pennington.

That's why Jones gets a slight bump. All the way to the first round is stoopid, but Jones gets a small bump none-the-less.

Im glad I grabbed him as my 3rd RB in a new dynasty this year. He should be solid for the next 2 years. Redraft, He may get taken too early for me.

What are you saying? What good players? Was Jennings a 2nd or 3rd rounder I don't remember, I think late 2nd? James Jones? Donald Lee? Ryan GRant? Yea these players are GREAT! and let Favre put up all of those numbers last year. 3 years ago they were 4-12, and Favre tried to do too much, they sucked, TT has done well with drafting and as the players matured they gave Favre a better cast. But what is he supposed to do take rookies and bums and turn them into gold? They have had teh youngest team in the league for like the last 3 years, that usually spells bad season, not NFC championship.

Obviously he isn't the player he once was but who is at 38? He is still a top 5-7 QB in the league. Although I think teh transition and new players will hurt him and he will have just a decent year. I don't know how they expect him to come in 3 weeks befor ethe season and learn a whole new off. and get comfortable with players.

When I aw this thread title I immediately thought about gocolts. Hope you didnt throw up in your mouth when you saw it.

I thought Jones would be a nice value in the 4th or 5th. In just 1 day he has gone from potential value to ridiculous overhype.

Incredible.

The Brett Favre move is very damaging to those of us hoping to grab him at great value rather than jumping on guys like McGahee early.

This offseason, the Jets went out and signed Jesse Chatman, Musa Smith, and Tony Richardson.

As if that's not crowded enough, they also still have Leon Washington in the mix.

I think Jones is clearly the starter, but they don't have all these other running backs just for show.

Richardson is a FB and was one of the reasons I like Jones this year. Chatman and Smith were signed for depth since Washington is a 3rd down RB and they would need a more traditional Rb if Jones went down. One of them may not even make the team.

These signings dont temper my expectation of Jone at all. But now that Favre is there his value has been turned upside down.

Got him at 6.06 in my new Dynasty League. Nice value where RBs are the weakest part of my team.

Good call.

I was high on Jones last summer and he obviously exceeded mine and most expectations. I remember arguing w/ Go Colts in another thread that Jones was gonna be good value in the 4th or 5th b/c he repeatedly states that Jones is garbage.

The issue here was saying first round though. His "value" was never that last summer because you could have easily got him 2 rounds later in most leagues. And a lot of people prolly got him in the 4th.

But good call nonetheless. He certainly ended up being worth a 1st rounder.

yep... def shoulda shaded the statement more towards projection rather than draft value, but there were still ppl that were being unreasonable regardless. just bugs me
