jerryskids 6,535 Posted September 8, 2008 Holy crap does our division suck. The Niners looked pathetic; only ultra-conservative gameplanning kept it close. Seahawks get biotchslapped by the Bills. The Bills? Rams vs. Eagles... cripes. Coming out of the locker they realized they were (1) way too conservative and (2) didn't get Boldin the ball. "We didn't seem like we were throwing the ball a lot in the first half," Warner said. "They (coaches) came out in the second half and said, 'We're going to try to get you into a rhythm throwing the ball.' So I felt really good in the second half. At least we started to get a little bit of rhythm." Including two sacks, the Cardinals called 13 pass plays and 16 runs in the first half. In the second, the ratio wasn't much different - 23 runs and 18 passes - but the Cardinals passed on nine of the first 10 plays. "We said we needed to let Kurt throw it early so he could get in a rhythm," coach Ken Whisenhunt said. "It's always hard the first game, especially you don't know what they are going to do, and we were trying to find something that worked. "It seemed like we got into a little bit of rhythm in the second half." I expect more of what we saw early in the second half in future games. Boldin is a freak; he is guaranteed 5+ yards, he just never ever goes down on the first hit. With the contract issues, I expect them to ride him heavy this year. The 9'ers kept handing the ball to the Cardinals deep in their own territory and Arizona didn't do a lot with it.. 9ers defense actually played very well considering how the offense kept foking up.. Their defense played well because the Cards went run/run/pass the whole first half IMO. It was like "hey, we've got these scripted plays. What, we're starting on their 40? Let's run 'em anyway!@#" The Cards defense... granted it was JT and the Niners, but they were laying the wood to some people. My point from a FF perspective is that Warner, Fitz, and Boldin are must-starts going forward. They are going to open this puppy up. I've got Breaston in a 16-teamer I may use as flex vs. the Dolphins and moving forward.

I know ARZ is 1-0 but they were picked to win the division the last few seasons. Let's wait until the actually do it. To the rest of the league, we're all losers in the NFC West. idiotec 31 Posted September 8, 2008 I was extremely disappointed in the 49ers performance, but most of that came down to turnovers. Realistically I think the division is up for grabs and can be won (sadly) with a 9-7 record.
enis_44 0 Posted September 8, 2008 True. The lead looks not surmountable now. Warner was best move they ever made. Let's have more hightower though eh?
jerryskids 6,535 Posted September 8, 2008 What about Edge v. Hightower? Do you see Hightower ever being the #1 option in ARI? "Ever" as in this year? Hard to say, Whis seems extremely loyal to Edge, plus Hightower had a bad case of the fumbles in the preseason. Edge rarely fumbles, and in games like yesterday where they are milking the lead, I see a steady dose of Edge. There is a chance that Hightower could emerge in the second half, since he clearly has a step on Edge, and he has some Moe Williams-esque vulture value at the end zone if you need a bye-week fill in. I wanted Hightower in my keeper league for next year but other owners thought the same and grabbed him pretty early, and I'm stacked at RB in that league. AZGJC 0 Posted September 14, 2008 As a Cardinals fan since they moved here in '89 I appreciate your enthusiasm, but if any team can let it's fans down it's the Cardinals. I don't even feel confident with them being up 17-0 against Canned Tuna.

Cards moved to AZ in 88, but you are correct in the fact that they are the worst at letting fans down and not living up to expectations.
