Vince Young wants to Quit Football?

Recommended Posts

Can any Titan's followers shed any light into the QB situation going forward? Are the rumors of him quitting or the team moving on with a different QB after he's healthy legitimate? If so, is Collins their guy, or is he just a stop-gap for Simms (or someone else)?

All I've read is that he's been diagnosed with depression, and that the titans are "contemplating moving on without him in their short or long term plans."

Vince Young: A tragedy

I think you can take it to the bank that you won't see him in a Titans uniform again, at least not this season. He has to have totally lost the trust in his huddle, and the fans will crucify him.

He's done. Good focking ridance.

All dancing on the grave of his breathless half-wit supporters aside, I have to agree with you.

Like I said earlier, a QB has to be able to tell the OTHER guys to suck it up and play. - When everything on the field has gone to shiit. In short, you have to be a leader.

Add in the fact, that even if the players ALL rallied around him (unlikely), the press - and us axxholes - are merciless. We all smell blood in the water. When you're mommy comes out and says you "just need to be loved", you're dead. You're done. It may not be right, but it's true.

Maybe I'm jumping the gun here, but the only place I see this kid having a shot of any kind is Houston. Now, whether the organization wants to put up with the inevitable QB controversies that will inherently come with that is a whole 'nother story. But Houston is the only place I can see VY having a 2nd chance at. - And I'm not so sure Bud Adams would do that anyway. If he does, it means he thinks VY is a total liability.

A contract is worth only as much as the paper on which it is printed :D

Try skipping a few mortgage payments and see what that contracts' worth.

Mike Vick can join them when he gets out of the slammer.

Him and Culpepper can split a 6-pack of wine coolers and talk about how "unfair" the NFL is.

man, the hits just keep coming:

The fact he tried to take himself out of the game or didn't want to go in is just the latest example of a player who lacks the leadership qualities to lead the Titans to a championship. Need further evidence?

How about missing the team plane for a game in his rookie season? What about sitting out a preseason game last year after he skipped curfew? Or veteran teammates publicly questioning his knowledge of the offense? More troubling was his absence from the team this offseason as he went back to school at Texas, which wouldn't have been so bad if he hadn't been photographed having too much fun in a Texas bar while the rest of the offense was learning new coordinator Mike Heimerdinger's system.

The most damaging knock against Young was his admission this offseason that he thought long and hard about retiring after his first NFL season. Can you imagine Brady or Peyton Manning ever having those thoughts, let alone talking about them publicly? I didn't think so.

You have to wonder how much faith Young's teammates have in him when they step back and consider his track record to date, especially in light of his effort to bail on them Sunday, a cardinal sin in the eyes of NFL players.

It's obvious that Vince Young enjoyed football when it wasn't his professional career. Clearly it hasn't been fun for him and he doesn't enjoy doing this as a profession. There is a big leap one makes from High School and College to the pros and the guy is finding out he doesn't like what he's gotten himself in to. I know it disappoints many, but it doesn't change the fact that his life is his own and he needs to do what's best for himself. Maybe he leaves football for a while and gets a new perspective, a la Ricky Williams. Maybe he never returns. Whatever the outcome, it's better that he leaves now and takes care of his life because it doesn't help anyone if he sticks around in an unhappy marriage with the NFL.

I liked Major Applewhite, never liked chrissy simms, if Mack Brown were to ever recruit my son (5 years old) he would have some explainin to do as to why he would do that to Major.

Wiff, a lot of your stats don't have the running portion of his game noted.

He was the best QB in the history of Texas football. Period. No discussion. He was the best player in college football in 2005. Period. End of discussion.

Why his stupid mom said that stuff, I don't know, pretty lame. Why his head seems to be so messed up, I don't get, maybe it is because he was so athletically superior and he was always on the best team, he is having a hard time dealing, not an excuse, but I would think he would be above that. Until I hear him or Fisher say he wasn't going in because of booing, or that he never wants to play again, I don't believe this sheet. My guess is that he will be in the pro bowl again in his next mostly injury free season.

Vince Young is a poosay.

This ia great example of the poosayfication of the USA. You cant criticize kids. You cant spank kids. Kids cant fail a grade in school. Dont keep score in kids sports these days.

And for a kid who shows some talent at an early age, he'll be treated like a god and wont face any negativity or aversity.

Vince faces some adversity and runs away like a pansy. Then his mom comes out and defends him. And Vince continues to be silent. Wheres your ballzzzz Vince? Come out and make a statement and at the very least, show your team mates you are a man.

I do feel sorry for Vince. Lots of physical talent but he seems to be lacking on the mental side and his upbringing probably didnt help him learn to be a man.

That statement is a fact and there is no getting around it. All his life he's been told how wonderful he is and getting boo'd

for probably the first time in his life is completely foreign to him and he has no clue how to handle it. Mentally, he has no

idea how to "man-up".

Mambokings, it's hard to shed tears for someone who decides they no longer enjoy the game especially after they just

pocketed millions of $$$.

This whole thing sounds like Vince Young got his feelings hurt and now he's gonna take his ball and go home.

Vince is a focking loon and people are STILL defending his sorry azz. I was listening to Sportstalk show in Atlanta with 'The Two Live Stews' and they're doing everything but coming out and saying it's

racism. They actually said that he may not be in the right 'system'. In other words, fire yet another O.C. and run a college style offense that stands little or no chance of suceeding. You'd think that after

Vick, Cambell, Jackson and Young can't grasp the offensive scheme you install, you'd quit changing the O.C. and cut your losses. These guys don't belong in the NFL as QBs; make them wideouts or RBs.

This isn't the focking military. He has every right to quit, just as the Titans would have every right to trade him or waive him at a moment's notice.

You think there's loyalty in this business? Brett Favre gave his NFL career to Green Bay and they stuck a boot in his ass when he wanted to return.

Vince Young doesn't owe shiat to the Titans.

Brett Favre retired, so Green Bay moved ahead with its free agent signings and draft based on Aaron Rodgers being the starting QB. Then Brett wants to come back, but GB says "thanks but no thanks." That's hardly sticking a boot in his ass.

Vince Young owes the Titans his best effort, period. They guaranteed him many millions of dollars to play football. If he quits, he should forfeit half of his signing bonus and all of the remaining money he has coming to him. Quitting is breaching his contract. If the Titans were to trade or waive him, tough shiat. That's all part of the collective bargaining agreement.

I guess this episode means the Young's 6 on the Wonderlic test is a lot more meaningful than anyone thinks. Somehow, I doubt we'll see Jeff Fisher imploring the VY haters to come after him because "I'm a Man, I'm 50!" on YouTube.

When it comes to IDIOTS like you it is "racist."

Im not defending Vince Young in this thread. He clearly has some issues and has a lot of soul searching and maturing to do. And thats before he even addresses the fact that he is not progressing as a NFL QB.

But the fact that you lump him in with all other black Qbs and say they "cant grasp the offense" is a bunch of BS. Vick and Young are proving to be not too bright. Thats indicative of Vick and Young, not all black Qbs.

And Campbell was progressing in Al Saunders offense last year, the team decided to go in another direction. He now plays in a complex version of the WC offense (His 7th offense in the last 8 years) that almost everyone says takes YEARS to master. And he's doing it with a first time play caller and HC. Lets give him a few games before we say he cant grasp the offense.

Why is it that when Alex Smith, or Matt Leinart, or Kyle Boller struggle people just say they suck and leave it at that but when its Campbell, or Russell, or Jackson its that they "cant grasp the offense", or "they look lost." Hmmm. .. . . What are you trying to say? Is this 2008 or 1978?

The fact is that A LOT of QBs end up sucking. High draft picks and others. There are 32 starting QBs in the NFL and Id say there about 10 good ones. Its a difficult position to play, perhaps the most difficult in all of sports.

If these guys end up not being good at it then so be it. But is it too much to ask to leave race out of it?

Yet another reason why you do not throw big money to kids who never threw an NFL pass.

Vince young is without a doubt the biggest poosay in the NFL. He is paid millions and he is not happy. He is famous and is not happy. He drives nice cars, lives in a mansion and has sex with hot girls anytime he wants and yet he still is not happy. Poor baby! I wish I was as beaten down and oppressed as VY is right now. He is insulting every hardworking stiff out there who gets paid a crap wage and basically has nothing good going on. I love how he says he is being insulted by fans and the media. Try working for minimum wage some Americans do and they see how insulting that is to someone's dignity. Bottom Line: VY has poor throwing mechanics and he is an idiot. He does not have the intelligence or maturity to be an NFL QB. The run first QB who can't throw will never be a success in the NFL and Vick and VY proved that the stupid QB with bad throwing mechanics and a bad attitude can't win the superbowl, much less even get there. The Titans are going to lose alot of games and money because VY basically sucks. I just don't understand these spoiled millionaire athletes whining on T.V. and actually expecting the vast majority of working class people who live pay check to pay check to empathize with them. I suggest VY get a real job and see how he likes it. Most males would love to be in his place and the guy is pissing the dream away.

Fixed. :dunno: Other than that, I agree with your post completely.

You know, I'm tired of hearing how hard being a qb is. You basically have to know where two to five pass receivers (TE's, Rb's, etc.) are supposed to be on any given play. You are supposed to be able to recognize what the defense is doing, quickly scan the field, and pick the open option.

Is that easy? No. But if that is your ONLY FOCKING JOB and you are being paid MILLIONS to figure it out, I don't see it being that damn hard. Sit your candy ass in the film room, and don't come out until you know what the fock you are doing.

I would love to have the talent Vince Young has, and the opportunity to use it in the NFL, even taking the money completely out of the equation. He has been coddled and adored since the day he set foot in this league, and he has the gall to complain about "negativity"?!? Why don't you ask Eli Manning or Donnovan McNabb what criticism is. Ask Rex Grossman what its like to be booed. At least those guys all manned up and gave it their best shot, instead of pussing out and having Mommy defend them.

And now your "Depressed?" Boo Focking Hoo. Lots of people have depression issues. You know what they do? They get up every morning and they do what they have to do to get by. Of course, they don't have the luxury of having millions of dollars they didn't earn in the bank. We don't have the option of saying "you know what, I don't want to sit in an office and shuffle paper anymore," because if we did, the bank would say "you know what, we don't want to let you live in a house or drive a car anymore."

I have never been as furious at a player of a team of mine in my life. I hope to god that the Titans cut their losses, get rid of this immature pvssy retard ASAP, and move on to the next guy. Even if he comes back, I will never support him ever again.

And BTW, the Titans might ought to start employing a shrink or something in their pre-draft interviews. Maybe things like Pac-Man, Vince, and Albert's anger problem could be seen in advance, and either dealt with (in Albert's case), or avoided altogether (in Vince and Pac-Man's cases).

Vince Young is a prime example of how being a successful NFL QB is heavily dependent on intelligence. You need brains and maturity to be a good NFL QB and VY has neither. I am sickened to live in a world where a stupid punk kid like VY gets a huge multi million dollar contract for doing nothing and people who work real jobs are forced to actually do work prior to getting paid. Why does VY get paid before the work and Bob from accounting has to slave for weeks before getting a small paycheck? Keep in mind that Bob is probably a better accountant than VY is an NFL QB. VY should give all that money back since he basiaclly stole it from the Titans. Of course that will not happen since the NFL pays rookies more than 6-7 year pro bowl vets. Thanks Gene Upshaw! :nono:
