roroco 75 Posted October 7, 2013 His fault Peyton put up 51 points on their home field. No but it was his fault the Broncos put up the last three points. You just can't turn over the ball in your zone in a tied game with that little time left. He played a hell of a game, but he did screw up too. The story of his life... in a way. sirensong 111 Posted October 7, 2013 If we had known Romo would do this, we'd have made a compendium of all his chokes. someone already has, and the numbers (.413 win percentage in clutch situations) indicate that he's better than rodgers (.273) in these situations, and about equal with brees (.419). he has now committed 11 turnovers in clutch situations in his career. rivers, for example, has double that in the same amount of time. brees has 20. stafford is 1-23 against teams with a winning record in his career. all his close games through 2011, both wins and losses: http://www.coldhardfootballfacts.com/content/tony-romo-choke-artist-or-not/8831/ 'clutch situation' analysis through 2012: http://www.coldhardfootballfacts.com/content/nfl-myth-busting-tony-romo-and-the-dallas-cowboys-are-americas-chokers/23434/ so yeah--the INT is squarely on him. but without a near NFL record passing day from romo to begin with, this game would never even have been close. Kent 228 Posted October 7, 2013 Hard to blame Romo IMO. He had arguably the best game of his career and it was good enough to keep them in it against what looks like the highest scoring offense in league history right now. Dallas D should shoulder more blame. Or the o coordinator for not trying to run the ball as much as possible to eat clock. Only the Saints can likely win a shoot out against Denver. jgcrawfish 232 Posted October 7, 2013 I'm by no means a Romo supporter, but there are some things to consider here. First off, he's not anywhere near the defensive side of the ball. If your offense puts up 48 pts, you should win by 2 TD. Giving up 51 pts is pathetic on all counts. That's on Kiffin and the defensive players. The second part is that, as the head coach, you have to know of his propensity in these situations and coach for it. You simply cannot put that much pressure on him or let him be put in those situations. I still contend that if Rob Ryan was the DC in Dallas this team is probably 4-1 vs 2-3. Ryan is getting results in New Orleans with less talent on the defensive side. It's a typical knee-jerk reaction by Jerry Jones, instead of building continuity he thinks he can General Manage them into contention.

Filthy Fernadez 2,696 Posted October 7, 2013 The Cowboys Defense were to blame for 48 of those points. Tony Romo was to blame for the winning 3 points. It's that cut and dried. Sure he gave them a chance to win as a pretty good underdog but in the end, he turned the ball over to set up a Denver win.

Serpent 51 Posted October 7, 2013 I'm as big a Romo basher as anyone, but I have to ask - how many QBs have managed to find a way to win when their team gave up 51 points? Peyton's team gave up just as money points until Romo's brain fart and he won. It's the timing of it all. If he just couldn't keep up with Peyton's offense and they just couldn't catch up, yeah that's one thing. But they were tied with 2 minutes to go when he just gift wrapped the game for the Broncos. That's inexcusable. If he even goes 3 and out and just wastes time on the clock they can punt it away, but he just gives them the ball.

Not exactly what you were looking for but an interesting stat none the less: "Teams with QBs not named Tony Romo since 1960 to have +4TDs and rating +140 are 159-0-1. Tony Romo is 1-2." Not sure, but the QB in Denver won when his defense allowed 48 pts. True, but when two teams put up that many points against each other, I have trouble putting the goat horns squarely on one of the QBs for the one mistake he made....especially in a "team who gets the ball last wins" type of game, where giving the ball back to Denver (I think they had 2 timeouts to use if Dallas decided to burn the clock at that stage) was going to result in a loss anyway. Ordinarily, I'm of the old opinion that "home team plays for OT, visitors play for the win", but the way the Broncos offence has been humming all year, this would have been the time to try and make something happen. There are plenty of other examples where Romo has made boneheaded plays/decisions to choke the game away....I'm not sure I'd classify this as one of them. That being said - I can't stand Romo and that $hit-eating grin of his, and seeing him and the Cowboys lose always brings a smile to my face.

But anyone thinkng he cost them the game is a freaking idiot.This. Not a lot you can do when you step into your throw and trip over your lineman's foot as he's getting pushed backward. Also, if Murray hadn't gotten flagged for holding and negated Dez's first down, they wouldn't have been in that position in the first place. This one ain't on Romo. Anybody who says otherwise is a moron.
KC Deuce 1 Posted October 8, 2013 At least we don't have Michael Vick. Or about 18 other QBs in the league including former Super Bowl Champion Eli Manning. People love to hate on Dallas and Romo because of their past success as a franchise; as soon as they showed his "banging hot" woman on-screen, I knew he was going to be OK. Not to mention the multi-millions of dollars he'll make over the next several years. Good for you, Tony. I also appreciate "shouldering the blame" which Romo does as well as anyone in his press conferences. I doubt any of your opinions of him really matter, eh ? This is a fantasy football site . . . as far as that, his interception cost me one point. One. I will happily take the other 42.6 and he outscored Peyton Manning for the week. Kudos, Tony. Jerry Jones is his own worst enemy in Dallas. I think Rob Ryan should still be the defensive coordinator in Dallas. As a Cowboy fan, I've grumbled under my breath more than once at Romo admittedly. But he also makes some incredible plays to keep them in games. He reminds me of Brett Favre early in his career. "I don't give a FOCK about the consequences; I'm throwing it in there!" I still think Dallas wins the NFC East this year because the other teams in the division are worse than they are . . . considerably.

But the story changes when you break down Romo's fourth-quarter QB rating (again, from 2006 to present). In the first 12 minutes it's 80, second-best to Peyton Manning. In the final three minutes it drops to a below-average 44. He also has eight fourth-quarter interceptions, most in the league over that time. Serpent 51 Posted December 16, 2013 Let's hear more excuses for why Romo is such an awesome clutch QB. Spin the stats around any way you want. You can argue absolutely anything you want, but the eye test always wins. Some people in this world are always bound to be wrong and have to make up reasons why they are right. The rest of us get to have big salaries and nice lives because we actually are right, and don't have to explain why we are.

Serpent 51 Posted October 28, 2014 Romo supporters are ridiculous. If you have to hide the QB you might as well play a guy like Weeden and pay him less money. Rex Ryan managed to hide Mark Sanchez to get to two AFC Championship games. Heck he helped win an SB by hiding Trent Dilfer all the way to an SB victory. Romo is like Mark Sanchez except even more inept in the playoffs, but with rabid supporters for some reason. After Rex Ryan gets fired, I hope the Cowboys hire him as their HC so I can watch Rex struggle with Romo at QB.

R8RMick 242 Posted October 29, 2014 This loss falls squarely on shoulders of Dallas coaches. Unless of course, Weeden changed the play on second and goal from the 3 yard line? I don't care if you have Jerry friggin Rice out there in single coverage. You run the ball down their throats. That TD was the difference in the game, not just on the scoreboard but in the game plan as well. I guess some coaches just can't help themselves and want to show everybody they're the second coming of Don Coryell. I swear somebody should have lost their job right then and there. Cruzer 1,994 Posted October 29, 2014 Let's discuss the Dallas loss in hopes that nobody will notice that my Eagles aren't really worth a shiat. That and I have a few minutes before recess.Okay, it was a stinker of a game. We had no answer for the full onslaught of blitzers the Skins brought - we also seemed to panic and get away from the game plan. Props to Washington - they went for broke, outplayed us, and definitely outcoached us. The call to bring Romo back in was prolly a bad one. Then again, we should of never been in a position to need a time ending FG to tie it up.
Cruzer 1,994 Posted October 29, 2014 This loss falls squarely on shoulders of Dallas coaches. Unless of course, Weeden changed the play on second and goal from the 3 yard line?Red Jesus and the staff got terribly outcoached by the Redskins' staff - no question. And I put 40% of the blame on them...... But 60% of the onus falls on the players - our guys played like ass. Minus those in the running game - we looked like we expected to just show up and be handed a win..... Example: D. Jackson has one trick, go deep - and everyone in the focking world knows it. You keep him in front of you, never bite on the move - and again, never let him behind you. How many times did he catch the ball behind the defenders? How about the offense - did we not practice blitz packages this week? Did we not see any film? Did we really not expect them to bring the house? We looked like we were always 2 guys short of blockers and it killed us. Well that and not running the freaking ball. Hey Murray is ripping it up - let's get away from that and give Washington a chance... Just horrible, but it happens I guess.
R8RMick 242 Posted October 29, 2014 That's the thing Cruzer, this is something one would think they may have been past. If I was a Cowboys fan I'd be furious at the coaches, for not sticking with what made them the best team in the NFC. Sterling Moore is what he is. The way to minimize him is keep him off the field. They'd done a great job on TOP all year. They've had turnovers and special teams blunders all year. But everything was marginalized by the run game. At 6-1, playing that old school power running game, I actually enjoyed watching them. Now, getting away from what put them at 6-1, they're just the Cowboys again. This falls squarely on the shoulders of whatever mental midget called a passing play on 2nd and goal from the 3 yard line. I swear, that was the game right then and there. What's the story with Leary's injury?
Cruzer 1,994 Posted October 29, 2014 Well don't get me wrong, I'm still pretty pissed about the game.... But I'm trying to stay positive and I'm trying not to be such a Debbie Downer. Fact of the matter is all teams have off weeks - and for sure the history of this rivalry shows that no mater what the records are, the games are going to be a battle. I'm willing to give Garrett and the staff the benefit of the doubt that they will use this as a learning experience and not repeat the same mistake. They do have us 6-2 after all, and nobody under the sun ever saw that coming. Far as the 2nd and goal call - yea is was horrible, mostly horrible bcoz it didn't work. But does it matter if Murray doesn't fumble earlier? Does it matter if we can not let D. Jackson get behind coverage? Does it matter if we can remember how to freaking tackle? I think we will right the ship and get back to what has been working - if not, we will be back to sucking like all expected. Leary did something to his groin during the game. X-rays came back negative - will prolly be a late week decision... D. Free might actually come back and play Sunday against the Cards.
