Whatever the case, hoping for a lot of points tonight. Asante has been practicing the last two days, so I'd assume he plays unless he has a setback. I've never been a big Asante Samuel fan as a cover guy, but he is an improvement over Joselio Hanson, who then is a big improvement over Lindley in nickel packages. Asante also poses a bigger threat to Schaub's interception total. I'd guess him and Patterson will take turns on AJ, with Patterson on him more often, leaving Asante to roam a little more against the #2 guy. I'd still be suprised if the Eagles hold Houston under 20 points tonight. They should concentrate on slowing down Arian Foster and need to pressure Schaub a lot more than they pressured Cutler. All signs point to a high scoring game (which probably means it will finish 20-17 or something the way this season is going).
MDC 7,105 Posted December 2, 2010 Not really related to the game or because I'm an Eagles fan, but it is an absolute joke that the NFL is threatening suspensions for head-to-head hits that happen in the natural course of the game but Andre Johnson doesn't get suspended for hauling off and repeatedly punching a defender in the face after the play was over. Agreed. By not suspending Andre Johnson, they are basically setting a precedent that they shouldn't be able to suspend anyone for anything that happens on the field. But the NFL is a bunch of hyprocrites, so I'm sure they would still do it if it doesn't involve a star player playing on their network on the following Thursday night. And how the heck is Asante Samuel fined $40K for a play where he led with his shoulder and arms and some helmet to helmet contact resulted, but Andre Johnson is only fined $25K for throwing haymakers at a player not wearing a helmet. The NFL is REALLY trying to protect the players. 18 game schedule.. ::cough cough::

I think this was one of the few instances where the NFL got it right! Not comparing it to other incidents... Finnegan got what he deserved but Andre should not have retalliated. You both have this one WRONG!

So now being provoked makes it okay to punch a defender in the face 2-3 times? Face facts: If that was Jacoby Jones or some everyman throwing fists out there he'd have been hit with a 1-game suspension bare minimum.

I said Andre should not have retaliated... and in this case NFL got it right. Finnigen is a complete a$$hole and got just what he asked for. So any time a no-name a$$hat provokes a A-list player just to try to get him ejected from an important upcomming game... Trust me... I know the NFL is getting rediculous with some of the latest fines etc... but this one they got right.
remote controller 143 Posted December 2, 2010 So now being provoked makes it okay to punch a defender in the face 2-3 times? As long as the punches land and you don't break your hand!
Stewburtx8 67 Posted December 2, 2010 You said Andre shouldn't have retaliated but you're making every excuse in the book for why it's OK for AJ to haul off and punch Finnigen in a league where even incidental content during the course of the game gets your fined. You sir, are a focking clown. Agreed. Finnegan does this every single week. His game is to get in the opposing WR's head. He's the Raja Bell of the NFL. And I don't think you can call a guy who has been a first team All-Pro in the past a "no name a$$hat," he's actually pretty good. I didn't see Hakeem Nicks, Brandon Lloyd, Hines Ward, Miles Austin, Desean Jackson, or Brandon Marshall throwing haymakers at Finnegan, and they all have dealt with his antics this season, and plenty of WR's have in the past. Finnegan may have got what he deserved, but when a guy rips an opposing player's helmet off and is throwing 2-3 haymakers to the back of their head, this SHOULD result in a suspension based on the NFL's "protect the players" philosophy . $25K was barely a slap on the wrist. I love AJ and love watching him play, I just didn't think this was the correct decision.

Stewburtx8 67 Posted December 2, 2010 Let's get back to the game....and not the Andre Johnson suspension that wasn't. Even if he got suspended, he would of appealed and played tonight anyways.

Not comparing it to other incidents... Finnegan got what he deserved but Andre should not have retalliated. You both have this one WRONG! Seems a bit contradictory. Let's not act like Andre was blindsided by this scuffle too...in fact, he got Finnegan's helmet off FIRST. Winning the fight, or dishing out punishment that someone may or may not deserve, has no bearing on the severity of the punishment. Johnson was involved in a scuffle. He won the scuffle, but in turn, escalated said scuffle into a fist fight you'd see in a back alley. It really begs the question what a player would need to do on the field to get suspended. Go in to the stands Ron Artest style? Although if the fan is drunk and provoked him, the NFL might give out a $50K fine.

Bert 1,128 Posted December 2, 2010 Trying to keep Vick and the Philly offense off the field would seem like the logical thing to do. But like you said, who knows with Kubiak... Yep it is frustrating to watch. When your defense is the worse defense in the history of the league through 10 weeks and 24 is the fewest points given up in that time frame keeping the defense off the field should be priority 1, 2 and 3. MDC 7,105 Posted December 2, 2010 My last word on the AJ thing: I like AJ, think he's a classy guy and I'd rather watch him play. But the league set a precedent with the fines they've been handing out. If incidental helmet-to-helmet contact in the course of the game ngets you a $25K, I don't see how any player can rip somone's helmet off and punch him in the face without being suspended. Hell, if that's worth a $25K fine someone from the Jets might as well do it to Brady on MNF. Course, that player would be banned for life for hurting the NFL's "product." It's ridiculous. Anyway, the game: I have almost nothing to say because I can't get a read on the Texans and the Eagles are one of the most schizophrenic teams in football. I have to pick Philly in a high-scoring game though because they have the homefield advantage, Reid's teams bounce back well from losses, and their defense is merely "mediocre," whereas Houston's is just outright "bad." Houston could win this game but I'll be shocked if the Eagles don't respond after the way the coach laid into them on Sunday. Eagles 31, Texans

Flgatorguy87 160 Posted December 2, 2010 I am really disappointed that I only have mike vick and arian foster playing in this game. I see this as a shootout, with one of those everybody scores points games. I think it will be fun to watch, and I only wish our playoffs started this week. I think this game could single handidly win the week for me.

I've got Vick and Foster going tonight and my entire week will be determined tonight. If Vick can blow up, I'll cruise to a victory. I'm just hoping that the game stays close so Vick keeps accumulating points into the 4th quarter unlike the game a couple weeks back.

Now I get to spend the next hour debating whether or not to play Schaub tonight over Cutler vs the Lions....yet another opportunity for me to make the wrong call which has been the story of my season thus far. Tough call. Schaub will prolly have to play catchup... or they try and run more to keep the Eagles offense off the field. Cutler has looked real good lately, but the Lions have a decent front 7 and if they can pressure him he tends to suck. If it were me I think I'd play Schaub. rlb 0 Posted December 3, 2010 i think you have to stick with the hottest QB in the league especially if you already have a big part of the Houston offense. thanks for the input on schaub vs cutler. i have gotten so tired of watching schaub dink and dunk all year long but i guess that mostly what cutler does too. southcarolina 166 Posted December 3, 2010 I'd play Cassel without question. He's been hot. I grabbed Cassell of the WW today and will start him over Schaub. southcarolina 166 Posted December 3, 2010 Also i have Foster and Andre Johnson, and my opponent (11-1 and in first place) has the Philly def, so a 45-0 Texans win would just do wonders for me.
