why hasn't my president lived up to my hopes?

Recommended Posts

See, the thing is that I'm really happy over here. I have a stable job, disposable income, a great family, and plenty of free time. I'm in demand, I turn down work all the time. I may actually be the most personally satisfied focker in this forum. Well, besides Bill E. I think he's happier than me, but I must be top five.

That contrasts quite starkly with little over nine years ago when I was a substitute teacher living with my mom on 8 Mile.

But I tell you what, why don't you help me out here, since you seem so concerned about my life: when the job market picks up for 39 y/o white males with a liberal arts degree from a third tier public university, you let me know. I've also got military service including Gulf War veteran on my resume too if that helps.

Another thing is that China is a country on the rise with lots of opportunities whereas the US (appears to me to be) a country stagnating or in decline.

I'm not concerned about your life in the least. In fact, I think I've made it quite clear that, given your skill set I'm glad you teach over there instead of here.

shovel, you keep throwing around that word black.

"black" is not a selling strong feature and obama was not the first black candidate.

he's smart; columbia and harvard grad.

he showed that he was committed to serving the public; civil rights lawyer and worked serving the needs of the people by being a community organizer (people scoff at this but i think it's admirable).

i found his upbringing was a huge plus in understanding diversity.

obama is half-white and i'm really confused as to why you throw him in the black community when he grew up with his white mother and white grandparents, he's technically a white man but with brown skin.

he has no black family other than the one he made here in this country.

the woman he asked to marry before michelle was white.

i think it's white america's hangup on his color that is the problem.

i did not vote for him because he's black, he's not black like me!!!

he's black because he has labeled himself so.

i had no crazy illusions about him.

i wanted an end to the war.

i wanted a focus on education.

i didn't want a president that demonized the poor or blamed the woes of this country on the backs of people of color.

i wanted an intelligent well spoken clear thinking leader to go and represent us to other nations.

he did not come from a privileged background and he earned his success.

all these things have nothing to do with his color.

get over it already!

he was a good candidate and i would've supported him if he were white, if he were gay, if was asian or if he was a woman.

and i most certainly am the child of slaves!

just as you can discuss who your great-grandparents were, we also discuss who ours were and they were slaves!

wtf??

i don't know what the heck is going on with libya, i just did not want us bombing another muslim country.

the united states isn't as superhero that needs to come in and save the day all over the planet.

who is coming in to save us?? (china...)

That is ABSOLUTELY not what I am talking about. I'm talking about people that literally come over from India, did not go to school here, and know that they could put $100K in the bank and live like a focking king over in India when they decide to go back. I work in the IT industry. Some of my closest friends I've had at work were Indian. And their intentions were all the same. Save a hundred K plus in the US and go back to India and be set for life. I love them to death, but I don't agree with their intentions.

While W was in office, this was ridiculously easy to do. Anyone and everyone could get an H1B visa. You wanna know why? Because the people who graduated from schools like I did, wanted higher salaries. Yet the Indians are willing to come over and make $40K a year (which was an absolute fortune) to do the same job, whereas Americans that were doing these jobs at one point were the creme de la creme coming from the best schools in the country. I'm talking about the IT boom.

So eventually they drove the prices of IT down. And it has completely snowballed where now companies think they can outsource to other Indian companies and get the same level of service. And all these people coming over from India are going back home and having servants and living in palaces and shiit over the amount of money they made here that would be equivalent to a US person being middle class.

Obama seriously cracked down on H1B visas which is the way it should be. Soon after he came into office the IBMs of the world had to PROVE that their H1Bs were not making less money than a US citizen with an equivalent job and they had to PROVE that they could not fill the same exact position with a US citizen. Like I said... Fox News or any of the other ones don't report on this but I know it to be a fact that a lot of people got deported because the IBMs of the world couldn't prove out that existing criteria. And I think that is awesome.

I totally agree with Voltaire on this issue and if Obama has made it more difficult for these people to come to the USA, I think he is being shortsighted.

First off, there are some great schools in places like India that educate these Indians for free over there. and guess where the most talented of those indian grads end up. In the good old USA where they sometimes help create new companies like Sun Microsystems. These Indians you know who say they want to make money and go back to India are lying to themselves. After one year in the USA they will never want to leave. I saw a report a while back on the number 1 university over in India. The government pays for all these students to get educated and they are getting pissed off because they all go to the USA and never come back. They talked to some students over there and all of them said they intend to come back to India or work in India after they graduate. But they never do.

Talented immigrants create jobs in the US. We would not have been the first country with an atom bomb or the first to land a man on the moon without immigrant pysicists, scientists and engineers. Focken Einstein was an immigrant to this country.

If those workers are hired through an H1B Visa displace americans or make less than what Americans would be paid then you could bring a nice lawsuit on the company. They have strict rules about displacing American workers with taht Visa, it is for shortages of technical workers.

My uncle was paid $90,000 in a class action lawsuit when a fishing boat in Alaska hired some Norweigans at a lower cost. He wasn't really involved in the suit but he lucked into the money. It did not involve the H1B but it was similar type issue. Hiring foriegn workers at a lower cost.

I am not happy with what Obama is doing at all. And it has nothing to do with the economy. Anyone with half a brain knew it was going to take a loooooooooong time to get out of the mess we created for ourselves. I was not disillusioned with all the "hope and change" propaganda that he was spewing. Again anyone with half a brain would know that wasn't possible.

I still voted for him. And the sole reason I voted for him was because of Sarah Palin... period. I am generally a liberal when it comes to social issues. Gay marriage and abortion to name two. I took McCain seriously and I actually pretty much liked him and was probably swaying that way until he named Sarah Palin as his running mate. At that point he lost all credibility with me. John McCain was someone who I believe was pretty much in the middle and had the right ideals and was not going to be another George W reincarnate. Once the republican party brings the bible thumpers to the mix.... I'm out. It disgusts me and I will not have anything to do with it. However, I heard what Obama was saying during his campaigning. He made no secret that he was going to tax the hell out of the people making over a certain amount of money which I am affected by. I knew that. I went in eyes wide open. And I would still choose that 7 days a week and twice on Sunday over some insane religious right bible beater.

And I will admit I voted for Hillary as the democratic candidate in the primary because I really wanted Bill back in the white house. Not that the b!tch would have listened to him, but having him back there couldn't be a bad thing. And yes I still would have been taxed out the wazoo if she were in office. I knew that.

What pisses me off about Obama now, and as a board-certified liberal in RP and others eyes, is there were only a few things I cared about while voting. One was getting the fock out of the Middle East. For some reason I had faith in this guy that he would stay the fock out of it. That has been proven wrong. So now I'm pretty much left with the same focking economic chaos that would exist no matter who was in office, and new wars we should be staying the fock out of that I hoped if a democrat was in office we would avoid. But at the end of the day, it really doesn't matter. They are all freaking puppets and the outcome would be the same no matter what. Well except maybe the crippling deficit we are getting ourselves into with earmark laden "stimulus packages". :dunno:

One thing I will commend Obama for however... is his stance against legal immigration. W went nuts with this shiit and anyone and everyone was allowed to come here and work. (From India). And I know first hand how much he's cut back on this so this is one issue where I actually applaud him and he is fighting against big business to keep American jobs in tact. And none of you people probably even know about this because Fox News doesn't report on it. But pretty much this is the only thing that makes me happy with him as President.

Did I just create an IMMensaMind post?

Gay marriage and abortion stance were the primary issues that swayed your vote... Thats the problem with politics... Breaking people down on wedge issues that basically serve no purpose... The smokescreen worked... Much easier to get an idiot all fired up on a periphery issue than getting them to sit down and understnad the economic climate and big picture budgetary issues...

Just whine about Pell grants being reduced or Palins stance on gay marriage...

These are the types of people who judge a book by its cover..... ** cough cough Barry Obama cough cough **....

I refer to him as black for the sake of this discussion. It was the blacks that continually pointed to him as being black. It was the blacks that had the Disney World expectations. It was a black that started this thread. He was their black savior, never thought they'd see a day where a black man was president. I don't give a damn what color he is, everyone else who's been let down DID give a damn. If you don't lump yourself in with the rest of the sheep, then you're one of the more intelligent voters. But make no mistake about it...it was not the whites that propped up his color.

Ahhh....you do realize that Obama was elected largely due to white support and not blakcs?? If you want to lay blame on him being elected, look no further than your own white bretheren.

Wait a sec, stay focused on the subject of this thread. I'm not laying blame for anything, simply addressing her question of why she's disappointed. My point is that it was the blacks that went in with unrealistic expectations. But to your point, no President ever gets elected without the white vote..so that's kind of irrelevant. I wish I could still remember the numbers. It was some ungodly percentage when it came to how many blacks voted Dem for precedent. I wanna say 80% or more. I remember being stunned when I saw it.

They should have never been called African American in the first place. African American is someone who was born in Africa and came to the USA. I have always refused to use African American.

I was taught that we are all green, some are dark green and some are light green. :headbanger:

In my lifetime this group of people demanded to be called Black. No problem. Then they wanted to be called Afro-American. OK. Then they wanted to be called African American. Screw you! I wonder why they don't want to be called Americans?

You are way too idealistic. Immigration is not like it was when our parents came here. Everything you said here is basically wrong because it's not 1950 anymore.
