grandpahoo 9 Posted August 29, 2004 Draft for my main league is next weekend. Twelve teams, standard scoring. Retention rules are a little goofy: (1) you have to retain two guys, and (2) you forfeit the pick from the round in which you drafted him the previous year. The catch is that a player can only be out of the draft pool for two years - thus, I have to put a BUNCH of retainable guys back this year (Priest, Jamal, Hines Ward and Heap, to name a few). I (finally) won this league last year, but to do so I had to make a trade deadline deal that will hurt me this year - in essence, I traded 2.1 for 3.2. So my picks are as follows: 1.12 3.2 3.12 then all my normal picks. My only real retention possibilities are as follows: Chad Johnson - 3.12 Garcia - 5.12 Hasselbeck - 7.12 Bennett - 9.12 Fargas - 11.12 Trying to figure out whom to keep. Even with Bennett's injury, I think he's a no-brainer. I was really hoping Fargas would pan out (I focking dropped Wheatley at our trade deadline in order to keep Larry focking Johnson in case Priest was injured), but it's not looking good so far. Chad is a stud, but I'm not sure 3.12 is GREAT value for him. I'm thinking either Hasselbeck or Fargas - Hasselcrack seems like good value at 7.12, but keeping Fargas wouldn't really cost me much. Any thoughts?
Orgazmo 2 Posted August 29, 2004 I'd say Chad Johnson and Matt Hasselbeck Bennett for a 9th is good value, but he's a sissy Mary Nancy boy. of course I'd still have been better off drafting Bennett in the first round rather than Ricky

Bennett seems like a must to me - all of the top tier rbs will be gone by 1.12, so I'm already looking at some pretty slim pickings. By the way, I'm back (obviously), so we can resume our CHIMI negotiations...
Orgazmo 2 Posted August 29, 2004 Can you project what RBs will be gone by your pick?
grandpahoo 9 Posted August 29, 2004 Can you project what RBs will be gone by your pick? Almost all of the top guys are getting thrown back into the pool and will be gone before I pick - Priest, LT, Ahman, Alexander, Portis, Edge, Jamal, etc. Taylor MAY drop to me, but I doubt it. Barlow likely will, but I just can't make myself take him at 1.12. My best case scenario for 1.12 is either Harrison or Taylor is available. Worst case scenario is that they're both gone and I'm choosing among guys like Holt and the next tier of rbs (Barlow / Rudi / Henry / Dillon). You're at least making me reconsider keeping Chad Johnson...
Orgazmo 2 Posted August 29, 2004 How many RBs do you have to start? No reason not to take Fred or Henry, but I'm thinking there's good RB value past the first two rounds like Kevin Jones, Thomas Jones, Lee Suggs, etc. Chad at 3.12 isn't a huge value swing, but certainly worth 3.

Those guys you named are the exact guys I'm targeting with 3.2 - specifically, K Jones or Suggs. (Though the fact that they're VT guys pains me.) I was actually considering Taylor / Henry with 1.12, and then one of the rbs above at 3.2. If I kept Chad at 3.12, that would give me a serviceable backfield and a top-tier wr going into 4.1, after which I have all of my picks. You really may be talking me into this - I had convinced myself that I had to keep Hasselcrack, but there seem to be a ton of decent qbs who will be there later. Orgazmo 2 Posted August 29, 2004 I don't know what I'm convincing you of, since I selected Hass and Chad. But you're right. Some decent QBs to be had later. (translation: Keep Johnson & Bennett)
The Unknown Soldier 0 Posted August 29, 2004 (translation: Keep Johnson & Bennett) Bennett in the 9th round should be the best value for you this year. Johnson would go just about where he should at the mid-to-late 3rd so that's good. They're your 2 best 'talents' so that's who I'd keep anyway. If you go RB/RB like you're planning with the first two you'll have RB1/RB2/Bennett Johnson Normally you'd have a 3rd or 4th back by the 9th pick anyway, and even if Bennett's a nancy boy who's injured part-time, when he's healthy, he's an excellent backup and good spot-starter at the right matchups. OB1 33 Posted August 31, 2004 Bennett is already out for the opener and who knows how much longer. I think Chad Johnson and Hasselbeck are your best bets.
