IMMensaMind 462 Posted August 30, 2012 I've drafted once already - 12 team/1 player keeper league - and I didn't like my keeper (I had nothing better than Roddy White). He was IMO the worst keeper in the league (even the two new teams had far better choices). Even with White as my best (weak) keeper, I managed to finish middle of the pack through waiver wire work, but it didn't put me in a good position this year, where I drafted 6th - meaning I was able to choose essentially the 17-19th best ADP player as my first new pick. I went with Stafford first. Figured I needed an elite something. Then I went with best available players for several rounds, and used the "throw RB spaghetti against the wall, to see what sticks" strategy. Here's what I ended up with: Stafford Fitzpatrick Fred Jackson BJGE Ridley Kevin Smith Royster Rashad Jennings Kendall Hunter Roddy Cruz Harvin Keller Ravens Gould Meh. I'm gonna have to get lucky - though I'm really strong @ WR. Hoping to pull a RB+player trade for Gates to make me stronger later.
JtmoneyJag 25 Posted August 30, 2012 I just never like taking QB early and never have. I think the top 5 QB's are on a rotation so can get good value throughout the draft. #1 pick and you don't take Arian Foster? He has a huge edge over every other RB on a point per game basis. Can't say that for Rodgers. Top 5 are too close for me to take Rodgers with my first overall pick.

In this year, you get 1pt for EVERY 15yards. I knew that we me picking 1st, I would have no shot of getting one of those top 5 qb's if I didn't take one in the 1st.....hence the reason.. In my league, Rodgers averaged 41.1 pts a game. Foster averaged 17.8 pts. And this is just based on my league's scoring. Once I saw the break down, it became a no brainer for me. Surprised myself with Gates in the 3rd but since 7 QB's were gone I wasn't going to chase a bad value there and figured WR's were deep enough that I could catch up on them. Pretty happy with the core of McFadden/Forte/Martin/Marshall/Harvin/Brown/Gates in a PPR format. Still come good value on the WW if/when I need backup TE, etc. It's only a 10 teamer, but it's good proof that WR is pretty damned deep this year. I'll likely draft differently in the 12 teamer. Takeaways: I was shocked by how fast the QB's flew. 1st round: Rodgers (2), Brees (3), Brady (6), Stafford (8). 2nd round: Newton (16), Romo (20) 3rd round: Schaub (24) ?!? 4th round: Vick 5th round: Ryan I honestly didn't expect 6 QB's to go in 20 picks. Nice team for sure! 10 team league, which consists of 2 newbies and 2 guys who were drafting with their wives. It's a league with a lawyer friend of mine who asked me to fill a vacant spot in the league, which has a handful of other scumbag lawyers, so I don't feel that dirty taking their money. Very passing QB weighted...rodgers-brees-brady went 3 of top 4, and i figured i'd have to grab ryan at 10, but idiots let stafford-megatron drop, which is quite an enticing combo...i also could have grabbed julio or lynch at the 3-4 turn, but figured i needed a rb and i like charles upside more than lynch's in a high performance league....granted, this is WAYYYY more thinking than anyone else in the league did... now watch...with this stacked team, stafford and charles will go down early, martin and fred jax will split carries with their counterparts, and the idiot who took vick #9 overall and rivers in the 4th rd (!!!!!) will win the league as vick throws for 8,000yds. i don't feel so bad, because two days prior i really struggled at the 12 spot in my real league...or what i consider struggled...kinda need murray and mathews to act like rb1's, or i'm in deep doodoo.
