tikigods 76 Posted December 1, 2012 Shocker. The Jacobs are the cheapest focks on this planet. Why people in Boston follow these dbags is beyond me. Vancouver sports radio host Matthew Sekeres tweeted out an interesting lead today: “Am told by 2 NHL sources that #Bruins owner Jeremy Jacobs forced employees to pay tax on 2011 Stanley Cup rings. About $7K per ring. Some support staff couldn’t afford the tax up front, so players stepped up and covered the cost so they could get rings too.” Read more at http://www.rantsports.com/nhl/2012/11/29/nhl-rumors-did-the-boston-bruins-pay-taxes-on-stanley-cup-rings/#hOUxpsz7z5tg9yfv.

Thornton Melon 603 Posted December 1, 2012 Shocker. The Jacobs are the cheapest focks on this planet. Why people in Boston follow these dbags is beyond me. Geez, I always followed them because I love hockey and they're my local team. But that's just me..... That said, the Jacobs' have always been the cheapest bastages in the sports world. What's more, they never gave a rat's ass about hockey. Tax question: Couldn't they just have said the rings were gifts? Jacobs wouldn't have to pay gift taxes because the value would be under the $1.5 million (or whatever it is these days) exclusion. If the rings were less than $10K, he wouldn't even have to file gift tax returns. Which makes me wonder what the value of the rings actually is. Is the article saying the employees owed $7K in taxes??? That would mean the rings are worth ~$28K.

The Jacobs are cheap as fock and care little about their fans. They're lucky to have Peter Chiarelli as their GM. He is a good guy and a great GM. Rumor has it they made everyone who received a ring pay the taxes on it. All other ownership groups cover the tax, such as the Red Sox, Celtics, and Patriots. 40 years to win a ring and they can't even do that right. Fvcking tards. I believe in an employee employer relationship a company has to with hold income tax on any "gift" over $50. The gift is viewed as compensation.

I get a $75 credit from my company for work boots, the gov taxes me on it. Kind of double taxing really. I get paid the $75 in which I get taxed for income, I buy the boots and get taxed on the $75, then when my company reimburses me I get taxed on the $75 again. We're talking about a gift that was given to employees....then after they gave them the "gift" they attached a bill to it. Typical Bruins. Sort of like Tim Thomas refusing to go to the White House with his team because of his individual rights. Boston can't win anything without somehow fvcking it up being stupid. The credit/reimbursement the company gives you is only taxed once unless your company is screwing you.. The taxes on the purchase are state and local taxes not federal taxes. I've been watching the Bruins since before the Jacobs brothers took over. When they got the team, it became public knowledge very quickly that these guys were cheap Jewish businessmen who knew nothing about the game of hockey. But that didn't make me change my loyalties. Those teams in the late 80s were littered with some great players. As a Habs fan, I have nothing but respect for them. It's just a shame they had an owner that was not committed to anything but the bottom line. Having spent the majority of my life living in northern New Hampshire, when I first moved here we only got two channels: CBC and a Maine market ABC station. I'm literally 40 mins from the Quebec border. We got the Expos, Alouettes, and Habs. At some point, after we got cable, WSBK and NESN were available.

tikigods 76 Posted December 2, 2012 is it the same type that makes people believe that NHL teams can levy taxes? Thomas is a libertarian. I'm sure he was pretty pissed that he had to pay taxes on it....probably not because the Jacobs Jokers made him but that the government has no right to tax anything period. The Elevator Killer 521 Posted December 4, 2012 That's nothing. When I worked for Infousa, they would give away office supplies as sales spiffs.
