Mike FF Today 708 Posted December 3, 2012 Courtesy of ESPN, here is the current order for the first 10 picks of the 2013 Draft... 1. Kansas City Chiefs 2-10 2. Jacksonville Jaguars 2-10 3. Oakland Raiders 3-9 4. Philadelphia Eagles 3-9 5. Carolina Panthers 3-9 6. San Diego Chargers 4-8 7. Cleveland Browns 4-8 8. Detroit Lions 4-8 9. Arizona Cardinals 4-8 10. Tennessee Titans 4-8 Anyone want to take a stab at the top ten players picked? 1. Kansas City Chiefs - QB Geno Smith, W. Virginia
Stewburtx8 67 Posted December 3, 2012 Geno Smith at #1 would be a reach in my opinion. But obviously NFL teams can't help themselves and will reach for the best QB available if they need one. I just don't think there is a QB that is a top 20 talent in this upcoming draft. The Chiefs would be much better served in my opinon using the pick on Jarvis Jones, Manti Te'o, Star Lotulelei, Damontre Moore, or Luke Joekel. At this point, I think they are the top 5 players in some order. As an Eagles fan, I'd be happy with Luke Joekel or Manti Te'o, or trading back a little and taking the top cornerback/safety available. But there will still be a lot of player movement between now and the draft.
DankNuggs 305 Posted December 3, 2012 Not a sexy draft as skill position players are few once Lattimore went down... I'd say Manti or Jarvis Jones right now, but its wildly variable this year... Chiefs have some OLBs with skill right now... (not going to make an insensitive joke), so I'll go Manti here... They already put a couple high DPs on the DLine... Portis26 0 Posted December 31, 2012 I have no idea who is worth it. WR from USC may be best overall player IMO.
Big Blue 06 195 Posted December 31, 2012 I have no idea who is worth it. WR from USC may be best overall player IMO. If I'm a Chiefs fan and they take a WR #1, I throw a sh1t fit. Who's gonna throw to him? Brady Quinn? Matt Cassel? Unfortunately, there is no Andrew Luck or RG3 or even a Trent Richardson this year.
GreenTD 56 Posted December 31, 2012 They'll probably trade down since their team has holes everywhere on the defensive & offensive sides of the ball. If they stay at #1, you would figure it's got to be a quarterback. But honestly, is their a college quarterback likely coming out that any team would hitch their futures on with the #1 overall pick? I don't see one as of now.

browns16-0 30 Posted December 31, 2012 I'll be stunned if they don't take Geno. I concur. For better or worse I think they have to take a chance on Geno Smith.
Lacoop 0 Posted December 31, 2012 Leave it to the Chiefs to "earn" the #1 pick in what is shaping up to be a relatively weak draft. Nothing goes right for this franchise....

Lacoop 0 Posted December 31, 2012 Geno Smith or Matt Barkley i guess. Matt Barkley with the overall #1 pick? When some scouts are saying he's not worthy of a first round pick? Only USC alums would think he's the #1 pick. I see more Jimmy Clausen in Matt Barkley than Andrew Luck.

southcarolina 166 Posted December 31, 2012 They should trade the #1 pick to the Patriots for Ryan Mallett. He'll be better than Geno Smith, and the Patriots wont blow the pick like the Chiefs will. Its a win win for everyone.

ROCKET 0 Posted December 31, 2012 After the combine there will be some players viewed as can't miss prospects and people will be drooling all over them. I'm not buying into the weak draft/strong draft theory either way as the experts are wrong more times than not. I'm sure there is a player worthy of the #1 pick, hopefully for the Chiefs they will pick that player. Unfortunately it doesn't appear at this point a qb will be that guy. RG3, morris, martin, richardson, wilson, kuechly, blackmon has picked it up, tennehill looks alright, kendall wright, janoris jenkins... heard the same thing in 2011. Cam Newton, AJ Green, Julio Jones, JJ Watt, Patrick Peterson, Von Miller, Andy Dalton, Kaepernick, Kyle rudolph, Torrey Smith, randall cobb, demarco murray, stevan ridley there may not end up being a QB worthy of #1 overall, but the class will have its share of impact players. it just sucks for the chiefs that there is no andrew luck, no guy who was the known #1 pick since the start of this season

Mike FF Today 708 Posted January 1, 2013 Updated draft order. Picks 21-32 will be determined by the playoffs. My stance on #1 hasn't changed... 1. Chiefs - QB Geno Smith, W. Virginia 2. Jaguars 3. Raiders 4. Eagles 5. Lions 6. Browns 7. Cardinals 8. Bills 9. Jets 10. Titans 11. Chargers 12. Dolphins 13. Buccaneers 14. Panthers 15. Saints 16. Rams 17. Steelers 18. Cowboys 19. Giants 20. Law 239 Posted January 1, 2013 Actually, this isn't a bad draft, IF you have any pick other than #1. There is no clear cut #1 guy at a position (read QB) that is currently considered a #1 overall type position. LBs and DBs aren't typically taken #1 overall and rarely are DLs. OLs can be and Joekel has the best shot at that. After him, the DLs of Lotulelei and D Moore are possibilities. Then maybe LBs Te'o and Jones. That is 5 solid picks. Unfortunately for KC, none is a clear cut #1 and none plays QB. The top QB is likely Smith, but he can be had much later, like around 10. The problem for KC will be in finding a partner to trade down with.

Agreed that Smith isn't an ideal prospect but there's no way in a league where guys like Gabbert and Ponder are high first rounders that he lasts until 10. Smith may not be an elite prospect but he's clearly the best QB in this draft and has all the physical tools. That makes him a top 5 pick or higher no doubt. Mike FF Today 708 Posted January 15, 2013 Updated NFL Draft Order. With Andy Reid and new GM John Dorsey (formerly of the Packers) now in the mix, we're starting to get some of the pieces in place that will make predicting the number one pick a little easier. Dorsey is a "draft the best player available" kind of guy and will preach it publicly for the next 3 months. I suspect the Chiefs will make a move for a QB prior to the draft and my guess is they would love to trade down but with the info we have now and considering the gaping hole at Quarterback still exists in KC, Geno Smith is still my pick for 1.01 in the 2013 draft. jocstrap 8 Posted January 15, 2013 this draft will do no good for rookies coming out to affect ff redraft participation 2013. NO OFFENSIVE WEAPONS out there this year round #1 Boring
Stewburtx8 67 Posted January 15, 2013 Seems contradictory to state that John Dorsey is a "take the best player available" type of guy and then state that Geno Smith will be the #1 pick by the Chiefs. Geno Smith is no where NEAR the best player in this draft. Taking him at #1 overall would be a reach and would be drafting to fill a need. You could also argue Geno isn't even the best QB in this draft.

No, I wouldn't say that Geno is the best player but the hole is so big at QB in Kansas City, I think even GM Dorsey will have to veer from his philosophy on this one. edjr 6,300 Posted January 15, 2013 Drafting a QB with the 1st overall pick would be suicide for the Chiefs. That would totally keep them at the bottom for another 5 years. There is no one close to Luck or RG3 coming out this year. Too many teams that have been desperate for a franchine QB have reached when they shouldn't have. Raiders leading the way there. Better of drafting the best player you can get, sucking another year or 2 and getting 1st pick and taking johnny football in 2 years. As if the chiefs fans will stop buying tickets? hell no. Too bad NFL teams couldn't draft kids in college, even if they aren't out for the draft. that would really make the draft fun.

My guess is the Chiefs would like to trade out of the number one pick, but if forced to make the selection, I would predict (right now) that they would take Geno.
