shovelheadt 68 Posted May 5, 2013 the stuff from Costco is great to have around. You get a lot, and it is super easy to use to enhance any dish. Enhance is a good word, and the only thing I use it for. Toppings for salads, add to baked beans, burgers, stuff like that. For actual eating for breakfast, I go with the 'real' stuff. gocolts 300 Posted May 5, 2013 Why? Bacon is the easiest thing to cook in the world. Bacon is a b1tch to cook. It curls up, part of doesn't get done while part gets borderline burnt. Hot grease burns you as you try and turn it. It makes a focking mess of the stove top. Sucks ass cleaning a pan of bacon grease. Bacon grease disposal sucks ass. Focking nightmare. For perfect bacon everytime, put it in the oven. OVEN BAKED BACON Arrange bacon on a cookie sheet (do not overcrowd) Put cookie sheet in the oven COLD DO NOT PREHEAT OVEN Turn oven on to 400 and bake for 17-20 min. Drain bacon on paper towels. Never tried that and I LOVE bacon. I can't afford to eat the pre-cooked stuff since it so expensive, so I have done without one of my favorite foods for years. Let me ask you, does the grease make a mess in the oven??? How do you cook it in the summer time when the air conditioning is on???

Not nearly as much mess as on the stove, and if you've got a self-cleaning oven, you don't even have to clean up the mess yourself. I'm not sure if I follow your other question... Air conditioning should have no effect on your oven. Although it might make your air conditioner run a little longer.

You just might have helped some poor dude find a way to enjoy bacon again. I am going to try this before I have to turn on my air conditioning. IGotWorms 4,022 Posted May 6, 2013 Sounds pretty easy. I am going to buy some bacon tomorrow. Thanks for the suggestion bro. Don't microwave it. That's a terrible suggestion, it will taste like crap. Bake it per OM's suggestion. I like it fried though and don't think it's near as big a problem as you say it is. Are you cooking it way too hot? The burner should be on medium IMO. Takes a little while to cook but it's worth it.

Yeah, why would I want to throw the handy pre-cooked bacon in the microwave and have it in 30 seconds when I can bake some up in a mere 17-20 minutes? Sometimes I will throw a potato in the oven too, even if I don't feel like a baked potato, because in a few hours, who knows?

DankNuggs 305 Posted May 6, 2013 enjoy self cleaning a grease spattered oven... keep an empty metal can and pour the grease from the pan into it to congeal before throwing away.. Cook eggs in pan afterwards FTW. I tried doing thick cut applewood smoked bacon and it didn't come out great, have to cook it forever to get it crispy considering how thick it is. parrot 789 Posted May 6, 2013 You do realize this was in response to GoColts saying the precooked bacon was too expensive and that making it on the stovetop was a messy pain in the ass? Sure but I think you also seconded the thing about it being the easiest thing in the world to cook and there was something about "lazy focks". I'm not lazy, I'd just rather spend 3 minutes making a BLT than 30.

I'm not lazy, I'd just rather spend 3 minutes making a BLT than 30. You can precook it you know... Microwave bacon is teh suck. I'll take taste over convenience any day. It's also not like you can't doing something else while the bacon is cooking. So whatever... if you're happy with how you do it, fine. Just don't invite me over for lunch. I also second Dank's suggestion of keeping an old can to pour the grease in. You shouldn't put grease down your sink drain, anyway, so this makes it really easy to dispose of. Bier Meister 1,600 Posted May 6, 2013 i have never tried pre-cooked bacon. to prepare for service, we would make bacon as stated by OM.... line large sheet trays with parchment. lay out the bacon and cook until crisp. there have been times i have used bacon as garnish. i would place a cooling rack on top of the sheet tray and lay out the bacon. it does not lose it's shape and does not cook in it's own fat (cleaner). you just have to be careful with the grease on the sheet tray afterwards. at home... pan fry. i like to save the fat for other cooking (and have made a bacon vinaigrette with it as well)
