The Jeffersons or What's Happening are the only ones I liked. :dunno:

Diff'rent Strokes was the only one I watched.

I especially liked it towards the end, when ginger step brother Sam moved in, because Natalie was always off getting high in her trailer.

Watched them all except the last one; never heard of it. :dunno:

I was pretty young to get the more subtle adult humor of shows like the Jeffersons in the early days, but I still watched it. Sanford and Good Times as well. I'd have to go with Different Strokes -- I went through puberty during the show's heydey and had a few "different strokes" to Dana Plato.

Kimberly, whatever. And no, I was only 11 when the series originally ended. I watched the entire series on repeat from start to end. Me and my stoner roommates in 95 or 96, watched it every night mon-fri at like 2-3 am. Good times.

Sanford & Son

Redd Foxx is already hysterically funny playing off of straight man Desmond Wilson but his battle of wits with LaWanda Page are off the charts.

exact same thing. Knew them all then got to the bottom of the list and figured it was before my time and not in syndication or something.

The Rerun and Big Shirley back and forth, from What's Happen was pretty good too.

I can honestly say that Sanford and Son has never even made me chuckle. Back then until today, totally unfunny.

The Jeffersons, on the other hand, had the same exact premise as S&S and was funny every week.

Fred Sanford: Listen, why don't you arrest some white drivers?

Cop: I do.

Fred Sanford: You do? Well, where are they? Look at all these niggas in here! Look around here! There's enough niggas in here to make a Tarzan movie!

I don't know what it was about Sherman Hensley but I always thought he was hilarious...funnier then the rest put together. Foxx was funny as a stand up though.

Theresa Merritt was the star of That's My Mamma. I never saw the show and didn't know she was part of it until recently.

She came into the music store that I managed about 1979. Bob Seger was playing on our stereo and she asked me who it was. I told her and she said he was incredible and bought the record (Stranger In Town). She told me that she was playing the dinner theater in town and I said I would come down to see her.

It was a good show and afterwards me and my date met her in the bar. There was a piano player and she went over and talked to him for a few seconds and then grabbed a mic and came over and sang "Deed I Do" to me while he played. I went to the head and when I came back I heard her telling my date that she was nine kinds of a fool if she didn't realize what a fine man I was.

She was also in "Good Bye Girl" with Richard Dreyfuss.

Sanford & Son was the funniest, but I always liked What's Happening best. Jeffersons was good too. Good Times was way too angry-black for me.

I never considered Different strokes and Benson or "black sitcoms." Never heard of "That's my mamma."
