The Official Gio Bernard thread of 2013

Recommended Posts

Looking like a 50/50 split and hopefully Bernard takes over before or by mid season!!

As Giovani Bernard scampered up and down the field Monday night, it was evident the rookie running back should be a bigger part of the Cincinnati Bengals' offense.

The electric Bernard has 95 yards and two touchdowns on just 14 touches through two games. Staring running back BenJarvus Green-Ellis has only 14 more total yards on his 38 touches so far this season.

Offensive coordinator Jay Gruden admitted he would try get Bernard the ball more.

"I think they are going to get more to 50/50 sooner than later, probably," he said, per The Cincinnati Enquirer on Thursday.

Bernard brings an added dimension to the Bengals' offense that is unmistakeable. He's a home run threat every time he touches the ball. Outside of wide receiver A.J. Green, Bernard is the most explosive player that the Bengals employ.

Gruden confessed he's still working out ways to deploy Bernard.

"That's something I'm trying to figure out," Gruden said. "Sometimes I need to know when Gio is in there because there might be a different set of plays for Gio more so than Benny. But really, they complement each other and both can do similar things. Gio, obviously, out in space is more productive. I try not to alter my play-calling too much when one is in there."

Gruden also praised Bernard's pass protection, meaning Gruden is comfortable with Bernard on the field in most situations.

Green-Ellis will still get starts and be leaned on to salt away the clock late, but in between we should see more and more of the dynamic Bernard.

I'm sorry but your the OC for a professional football team and you're still working out ways to get the most explosive RB on your the ball.

That what pre-season and training camp are for. Fire this man and hire his brother.

i have an offer from the gio owner right now....gio and chris givens for garcon and ryan mathews. i'm very torn.

.5ppr. 2/3/flex. i currently have mccoy/lamar miller/mathews/pierce...marshall/josh gordon/garcon/T.Y.

miller and mathews suck. but might struggle at WR if i pulled. love gio long term, but love garcon short and long term.

Just bruised ribs. Will be back after the bye week.

Does that mean Gio is going miss the next two games with bruised ribs? Bengals bye is not til week 12. :dunno:

I've read nothing that says he's not playing this week. How many touches is a different story.

In case anyone is wondering about his value, I just traded my Gio + Dalton + Lamar Miller for Brees + Colts DST.

I think I may have given up too much, but the peace of mind of having Brees at QB is worth it. Plus, my RB's are Peterson, Bush, A. Brown, M. Ball now so I was comfortable giving up Gio, and Lamar would have never started on my team anyways.
