The World's greatest singers.....Axl Rose has a larger vocal range than Mariah Carey

Mariah Carey has been known to introduce her band by singing at the pitch of their instruments. However, on record, her vocal range isn't as extensive as that of Axl Rose. The Guns N' Roses vocalist has sung notes that span nearly six octaves, from F1 (in There Was a Time), in the second-lowest octave in scientific pitch notation, to B flat 6 (Ain't it Fun), five octaves above it. Rose has a lower baritone than Barry White, and can reach higher notes than Tina Turner and Beyoncé.

Carey, meanwhile, has managed to span the marginally smaller gap between F2 and G7 in tracks Sweetheart, in which her lowest note was recorded and Emotions, which saw her highest.

Prince comes in a close third, after reaching B6 on Daddy pop and the lows of E2 on Daddy Pop, and Aerosmith's Steven Tyler just beats James Brown to fourth place.

Complete list at link.

I few things. I LOVE Axl Rose. He is easily one of my all time favorite singers. I still found this surprising.

One person that seems to be missing is Miljenko Matijevic from Steelheart. I could be wrong, but I always thought that guy has some serious vocal range. I know he could hit some pretty high notes, maybe he does not have enough low notes???

Someone set me straight here. Sux or Newbie should know this.

Possibly, the most impressive feat, any male singer can do ... Hit and hold that high note smoothly like peter Gabriel does in the song San Jacinto.

i can sing pretty good, I can't do that though.

You want a song that, pretty much no matter how good you get, you'll never be able to sing the whole thing?

If you can hit all those notes .... with that kinda control ...well ... let's just say I don't believe you.

Anybody who ever tried to sing a rock and roll song ... ever ... was kinda put to shame by this. The range is too much. Good practice song if you want to learn to sing ... I could never hit the high notes.

That's what that song is built for. Show off his voice. It's pretty impressive, I gotta admit. It's not just the high notes, either.

I don't even like Soundgarden, but I respect this song for it's difficulty level.

If I was going to pick an impossible to perform Chris Cornell vocal track it would be Say Hello 2 Heaven.

I reject the premise. Vocal range doesn't necessarily make you the best singer. It's like saying the guy with the fastest 40 is the best football player.

Having said that, it's all subjective in my view.

I saw Sound Garden live. Chris Cornell is not that good of a singer imo, or at least during that show. He is aided by the studio a lot. Trent Resnor was much better vocally at the concert.

No way to know. We just have to appreciate every day.
