***Official*** NBA Draft Thread 2015

Recommended Posts

The only teams capable of winning it all next year are Golden State, Cleveland, and the Spurs (if they get Aldridge).

The amount of talent on Golden State is crazy. Soon, guys like Harrison Barnes will be signing Harden-like contracts as free agents.

Cleveland, to their credit, hung in the finals. LeBron took over but can't beat a great team by himself. Mozgov has developed into a defensive beast with LeBron. Love won't have to play much D. Put that Cavs team in the finals again next year with healthy Love and Irving?

Yep. It's not like GS blew the Cavs out of the water. LeB basically single handedly got them close, much less when they have all their MIA great players back and healthy again.

any free agents signing with Philly so far? I havn't kept myself totally up to date.

edit: before you respond that god almighty hinkie isn't trying to sign any free agents until NEXT year, I would pose the question of what big fish is coming to philly next season..

No free agent signings. Then again, this will be the 3rd year with no semi-significant free agent signings. Don't really need any, and probably won't any time soon.

It's unnerving seeing so many mediocre players getting staggering contracts this off season. It's much smarter to build with draft picks, which the Sixers are flush with. While they could actually go out and give out a max contract right now (20+ mill cap room right now, 12 million below cap floor) or go out and sign 2 max guys next season, I'd much rather they concentrate on resigning deserving young players when their contracts expire. And it is all staggered out.

2 years from now: Noel, Saric (initial non-rookie contract)

3 years from now: Embiid, Stauskas

4 years from now: Okafor

5 years from now: the multiple first round picks from 2016 draft

Even next year, the only guys I can think of that have an expiring contract is Tony Wroten and isaiah Canaan, neither of which is a certainty to be retained. Considering the Sixers could add 4 first round pick and possibly Saric next year, not a lot of roster room to evaluate players, or to even add a free agent. The evaluation and development is paramount.

Sure, you can supplement with a free agent signing. And you could add a veteran PG to a reasonable deal this season to the mix, like local legend Jameer Nelson. But it's going to be hard to ignore that the Sixers are on the upswing and have a plan and their star players are not fighting in public with the front office, so free agents will come if you pay them; this has been an issue this year with New York (Anthony), LA (Kobe being Kobe), Sacramento (Boogie), etc. A young guy will probably be a RFA and hard to pry away from their team; a max veteran might not be best for a young, building team for now.

If the Clippers can keep DeAndre, and with the signing of Paul Peirce I think they may be really good. A couple big *Ifs* though.

And Durant should be back full speed next year for OKC. Don't count them out just yet.

Jordan is a Mav. Clips are going nowhere.

OKC sealed their fate when they traded Harden for Perkins. That has to go down as the worst trade in the nba in 30 years. Imagine OKC if they would have paid Harden.

Dambit Jordan! Thought it'd be the Spurs!

And what a slap for Rondo: Rajon Rondo agrees to one-year, $9.5 million deal with Sacramento Kings.

Man, the Lakers are striking out in free agency. Was really hoping we would get Jordan. Looking bleak now, with the only options some sort of sign and trade for David Lee, Nene or another mid level guy.

Atleast Jordan left the bandwagon Clippers though! I've always liked the Mavs the best, of the Texass teams.

Spurs look dynamite

Cavs continue to tweak with great moves too. They sign Mo Williams on the cheap as a back up PG. Mo can still play, he averaged like 17ppg and ran the pick and roll like nobody's business last year in Charlotte. Great pick up for depth.

No offense but how is it hard to ignore the Sixers are on the upswing? I'm not seeing it. All I see is theoretical gains Based on hope of draft picks panning out. Free agents are not clamoring to come to Philly.

Now I agree with you on the staggering contracts being given to mediocre players BUT that's the reality of today's NBA and with the cap set to go up dramatically, it's only going to get worse next year. I wouldn't want to see the Sixers offer a max deal to Jameer Nelson but I think you have to at some point bring in a difference making free agent.

When you talk about all the rookies they will have next year , including possibly saric, this I going to take 5 plus more years for the team to be relevant and that's assuming they can keep certain guys from leaving.

Hardly anyone is talking about the Bucks. They look to be dynamite next year, I think they vault all the way to 2nd in the East, past the Wizards and the Bulls.

MCW

OJ Mayo

Middleton

Jabari Parker

Greg Monroe

With guys like Antetokpono, John Henson, Miles Plumlee, Jared Dudly, J.Bayless, G.Vasquez, and Rashad Vaughn.

Geez.

Celts getting David Lee for Wallace is a great deal... Getting Amir Johnson with Olynyk, Sullinger, Bass, Zeller and a ton of guard depth... They should be a playoff team again next year

I do love it that smaller market teams like Golden ST., San Antonio, Cleveland, Milwakee, etc. are doing well while the Big City teams like Lakers, Knicks, and Celtics (to a lesser extent) are struggling a bit.

Maybe there is hope in Charlotte!@#!

It's more prudent to build a good young core of players and then look to free agency to fill in a need to two, rather than be too dependent on free agents to build around as that will quickly deplete cap flexibility. Young players will be much cheaperer, so you can collect many more young players under the cap rather than signing over priced free agents. There is no rush to go out and find free agents this off season as the Sixers are still evaluating and developing and will add a flood of first round players next season. Free agency is getting weirder, as seeing Milwaukee outbid New York and LA for the services for a star, as past precedent is being discarded. If a player likes what you are doing and the team has a plan, they will go against the grain and join.

it's not going to take 5 more years to be relevant. Maybe one more season. We don't know how NBA ready the incoming rookies will be, but it will be a buttload of wings and guards that will targeted. The picture is coming into focus more each day. Hinkie said the rebuild will take 3 years, then it will be time to start to compete. This upcoming season is Year 3.

Sure, the cap is going up in the next year or two. It just looks ridiculous that backup players are getting 12 million a year.

If the top is your starters, Mayo isn't one. He's coming off the bench. Bayless was traded to the Wiz for cap space.

I'm excited about this team, but have to see how it gels first. Parker was still feeling his way around the NBA last season, Antetokpono needs to expand game still. But I love all that height and multiple position players. Feel like right now they have top 2 or 3 talent in the East, but not enough experience to challenge for #2. Think the goal right now is to get a home series...oh and a new arena so the team doesn't move to Seattle.

Seriously, you don't know sh1t. I read several Sixer blogs, then come here and see you parrot opinions verbatim as if they are your own on a forearm where even the one poster who might care (me) doesn't care. Stick to a topic you know something about, like superhero movies, being fat or celibacy.

I am a free thinking man. I suppose you don't frequent the Seahawk threads or anywhere else at this site, or other sites, where I discuss things of a serious nature. I am verbose and some have found me insightful. If you never realized it before, parallel thinking exists in this universe. Basketball is not so complicated a game that it can't be dissected properly, and by a multitude of fans. Stop accusing me of parroting something else because you make yourself look foolish and frustrate that tiny little brain of yours.

How do you like them apples?

If he does, he'd be doing the Mark Cuban the biggest favor ever. Listening to Cuban, the Mavs are totally over-rating how good Jordan is as a player.

If Jordan does bail, it would be amongst the worst a player has ever screwed over a franchise. Took the Mavs out of the market completely until everyone was gone. Then bailed. Screwed over lots of other players that agreed with Dallas because they wanted to play with DJ.....Screwed over guys that signed with other teams that would have preferred to play in Dallas...etc.

Apparently the Clippers believe they have DJ, and they aren't leaving til after midnight and he signs. Mavs won't even get to talk to him. DJ's agent isn't even being allowed to talk to him.

The repercussions of this would be big. Obviously a commitment isn't legal until signed. But if this goes down like this, it changes the way everyone does business going forward. For instance, teams should just offer tons of players the max, even if they go way over the cap. Then when the time to sign comes, just pick the best guys you have an agreement with.

So strange. Entertaining though.

It reminds me of a high school phenom PG signing a letter of intent (which really means very little, it's a "promise") only to then sign last minute a scholarship with a rival school.

Meanwhile the first team stopped recruiting PG's and now are SOL.

This is way worse. In college, you are allowed to sign multiple PGs. In the NBA, there is a salary cap. Dallas COULDN'T go after guys unless they had planned to back out on agreements.

I probably can't separate my fandom from my opinion, but logically I don't know how DJ could live with himself here. Sure, he would single handedly crush a franchise, but how many players around the league did he affect? Directly in that they could have signed in Dallas, and indirectly in that they got less money somewhere else because Dallas didn't drive their price up. Not to mention Dallas was in the hunt for Hibbert via trade, etc.

I know a deal isn't a deal until it's signed. I barely blame DJ, as he just seems to be a mental midget. But the NBA can't do business like this. Otherwise, like I said, teams will be forced to start agreeing to terms with way more players than they can sign, then picking and choosing which of their agreements to honor.
