Favorite Store Bought BBQ Sauce

Recommended Posts

Please list your favorite. TIA

I tried KC Masterpiece and liked it, but it reminded me a bit of the sauce that flavors pork and beans.

It is good, but if there is better out there, I will try it next time I make ribs.

(Like next week so....looking forward to your responses.)

They taste nothing like they do after the sugar carmelizes. Hell...open pit tastes like crap outta the jar but is amazing after carmelization

Uh....actually, I don't grill them, I put them in the slow cooker so the flavor is probably more important.

Funny you should ask. I remember reading an article from a guy who won a lot of Barbecue contest. Mostly in Texas and the surrounding region. Where, If sauce is used at all, it is on the side And leans towards a spicy bite.

After a while, he came out and admitted that he just used the regular Kraft barbecue sauce. And, when I tasted it, For being store bought, it was pretty darn good.

It's all subjective, I'm not a fan of most Kansas City BBQ sauces, Because they tend to Be overly sweet. Whereas I prefer my barbecue sauce on the side With just a bit of heat on the back end.

Absolutely cannot stand Carolina Vinegar and mustard based barbecue sauce. To me, that is absolutely disgusting.

I'll +1 that Kraft is pretty good. But it depends on what you want in a BBQ Sauce. I'm not a fan of the sweeter stuff.

If you want a kick, look for Famous Dave's Devil's Spit. I like food on the spicy side, but it's too spicy even for my tastes. So I'll mix a bit in with Kraft.

Sweet Baby Rays is great, not too sweet and has a little but of heat.

Also do not prefer the vinegar and mustard based sauces. level of heat- i am probably moderate, but my daughter loves ribs, so i cannot go very spicy. when/if i go spicy, it is in the rub. i like the sweeter sauces to balance it (brown sugar or molasses)

sweet baby ray's

kinders

i like one of the stubbs more than the others, but cannot recall which.

kc masterpiece is hit and miss

bull's eye- same

reality is i typically doctor them anyway

Season with Montreal Steak seasoning,

then use Sweet Baby Rays original flavor.

Also put about 2" of Dr Pepper or root beer in the bottom of

the slow cooker before adding the ribs.

The bones will just slide out clean when they are done.

Gates Original is my fave. You can get it online, I'm sure. It's got a lot of kick so mixing it with Sweet Baby Ray's hasn't gotten complaints from the masses.

Just be sure to drain most of the soda/liquid from ribs mixture

before adding the sauce, after cooking 6-8 hrs on low setting.

Then add sauce & let them cook 1-2 hrs until done.

yeah...i used apple juice for years. put it in a little a little foil pan. about 7 years ago there was time where i was out of apple juice and had been drinking (did not want to run out to the store). i grabbed 2 of her capri suns instead. i also traditionally use cherry coke when making pulled pork. for ribs, i have half of my grill with a direct heat source and shut down the other side (where i cook the ribs). i place my chips and smoking liquid (capri sun) over the direct heat. the liquid keeps the ribs moist.

Boy, you and I have had two entirely different experiences. Bert and I went to one of these so called original gates locations In a part of town that makes Ferguson look like Nirvana. The sauce tasted like salt and Aunt Jemimas. -. The whole experience was disgusting dangerous And filthy.

BBQ sauce is pretty much a no'no here in Texas... That being said, if I had to pick one - I'd say Bull's Eye Carolina bbq sauce.

If Stubbs BBQ is available, I will go with that. Its got a great flavor and only like 4g of sugars as compared to double digits for most of the others.

Never been a fan of ribs in the slow cooker - tastes more like roast, no bark... Ever cook them in the oven?

finish them on the grill, not bad for a way simpler effort.

I never worry about the effort - labor of love. More concerned with flavor.

There is no answer but Sweet Baby Ray's. And it's the one thing I didn't give up on this diet. SBR is life.

It is and I'll never understand why. Anyways, it all depends on what I'm doing that determines the bbq sauce. Sweet baby rays honey bbq when I do crockpot meatballs, Rufus Teagues super hot bbq sauce when I got any other type of bbq here in Texas such as brisket (although that's only occasionally I use it since good brisket needs no sauce but if I want extra kick I'll use it), mustard based bbq sauces when I'm back in SC, and Carolina treet when im doing Boston butts (use it as a base and make a vinegar bbq sauce and also a honey bbq sauce)

I add 2 parts honey to 1 part siracha and mix into sweet baby rays. Kicks up the sweet and heat to an already great tasting sauce.

I'm sure this probably sounds gross But this friend of mine, she has the most amazing 9 year old boy I've ever met. He is cool as hell and makes me crack up everytime we hang out.One though, is the part Of ribs. So, after NAS down on all of art I wouldn't do that with anybody other than this fantastic kid.

Pretty sure mom Love the fact that we get along so well. Hell she knows That other people's hands, much less Eating the same food.

I know I'll get busted by you guys for this But that kid is one of the best parts of my life right now.

Mentioned this before, But Apricot jam or jelly And sriracha And whatever seasonings you want Dry And a little bit of Ginger Makes one hell of a non store bought sauce. So I know I'm breaking the rules here.

you know you can buy hot pepper jelly... its delicious and basically is what you try to create here... Even better if you buy it at a local farm where its made.

I went to a new steakhouse nearby that fancies itself to be a mortons/capital grille knockoff and I had a NY strip with hot pepper jelly sauce that was really damn good...
