He never recovered from that. A classic moment before the Information Age even took off.

Exactly. I just wanted to put that in as a contextual placeholder. Now FF to today:

Trump LITERALLY misspelled "Tap" (TAPP) as in wiretap. Keystroke error? Well, remember, Twitter has spell-check, but we'll let that slide. In fact, we'll let 99 out of 100 slide for him. - Even in the Quayle Context - when there was no spell-check.

So, Trump issues a Tweet that really could and should rock the Republic. A former POTUS spying on a POTUS candidate? That's HUGE. (or "yooge"). It took him THREE TIMES - WITH SPELLCHECK - to spell "hereby" correctly. No shiit.

For the idiots that scream 'grammar nazi!' - then why did Trump go BACK REPEATEDLY to try, try and try again to spell it right? If he didn't care, why do that? And who can't spell 'hereby'? And, if you're going to issue what amounts to a potential Republic-killer, maybe slow down and utilize the spell check. It's obvious he doesn't even know how that works.

But more to the point is the juxtaposition of Quayle vs. Trump. We killed Quayle, but shrug at Trump's repeated stupidity. (And before him, George Jr) Are the candidates any dumber? Or is the electorate?

I don't think we should break into north or south, red or blue, how about just stupid and not?

Everybody who watches Duck Dynasty and/or Kardashians? You get WV, MS, AL, and FL - home of the TrumpHouse. Enjoy.

"What do you think about the possibility of Mutually Assured Destruction?"

"I think it's a good idea."

He was VP from 89-93. Those that paid attention to politics back then were prolly born between what, 1930's to 1950's. Those folks were educated a bit differently I would imagine than the way most of the voters these days were.

Also there's this:

“As democracy is perfected, the office of president represents, more and more closely, the inner soul of the people. On some great and glorious day the plain folks of the land will reach their heart's desire at last and the White House will be adorned by a downright moron.”
H.L. Mencken, On Politics: A Carnival of Buncombe

“The best argument against democracy is a five-minute conversation with the average voter.”
Winston S. Churchill

But at the end of the day, he's still better than Hillary.

If by "we" you mean the MSM that was unchecked for decades, you'd be correct. Your point? Obama stated we had 58 states and no one blinked in the MSM.

Sad state of affairs we live in today. One side gets slaughtered and the gets a free pass. One side makes fun of yards and the other gets chastised for calling them out.

Trump got elected because of this BS and you continue on with the vapid arguments which elected him. I've never seen such stupidity on one side that bites at every nibble a hook can drop.

Good thread, remember this from October 23, 2016? Good Times

Hillary Clinton ridiculed Donald Trump once again tonight for claiming the election is being ‘rigged’ to give her the win.

‘Some people are sore losers, and you know, we’ve just gotta keep going,’ she said, her Charlotte, North Carolina, crowd erupting into a ‘Hillary’ chant.

Since Trump said last Wednesday at the final presidential debate that he may not accept the results of the election if she wins, Clinton has hammered him for it, asserting at each stop that her opponent is a ‘direct threat to democracy.’

She said Trump's comments were more consistent with what dictators in non-democratic countries might say about their opponents.

It's potatoe and Dan Quayle got it right. It was Miriam-Webster and the rest of those dictionary publishers who fucked it up.

And you still haven't figured it out.

Potatoe is an older but still correct spelling of the word more commonly word spelled potato. It turns out that Dan Quail and the young student were both correct in there spellings. The e at the end of potatoe was largely dropped by the end of the 20th century.

Good Times!

No where in my post did I say that Danny boy was incorrect. I simply stated that I remembered the event. I'm sure Chaucer would have been pleased when Dan corrected the kid.
