MDC 7,082 Posted April 13, 2017 I see guys wearing a tank top / wife beater beneath their t shirt. This seems to be a blue collar city thing but I've seen it in NYC and Boston too. Any idea wtf you'd wear a t shirt beneath a t shirt? Just wondering and this seemed like the forum to ask.

Cruzer 1,995 Posted April 13, 2017 I've tried to ask some of my homies who wear these things........ But when you're trying to reason with a dude drinking Natty Light - you pretty much have your answer.

MDC 7,082 Posted April 13, 2017 I wear your typical white cotton v neck undershirt beneath dress shirts but that serves a purpose. It keeps sweat off your shirt. Why would you be sweating it care if you are if you're in a t shirt? And since a tank doesn't cover your pits anyway it's not doing much.
listen2me 23 1,820 Posted April 13, 2017 I wear snug white haines shirts under clothes in the winter for another layer. Under golf shirts if it is on the chilly side. Or dress shirts. Never owned a wife beater.

DankNuggs 305 Posted April 13, 2017 I used to when i was in my vain like newbie phase and i was pretty muscular. Not under T shirts but under pretty much everything else. Wear a dress shirt with the top button or two unbuttoned. I was a bit of a dbag

cyclone24 1,912 Posted April 13, 2017 Okay in my playing days and pickup days I always wore one. Especially playing basketball I hated the feel of sleeves hanging on my arms. Once they got sweaty I just didn't like the feel. So I always cut my shirts into tank tops that had huge arm holes. Then it just felt better to have that light second layer underneath and it also helped absorbs sweat.

Why would you be sweating it care if you are if you're in a t shirt? And since a tank doesn't cover your pits anyway it's not doing much. This. Occasionally, whilst I was in Houston in the throes of the dog days of Summer humidity, if I was dressing nice, I'd wear a colored T under a button down. And, if it was horribly humid, I'd wear a tighter whitey T underneath all that. Strictly for sweat absorption. But, if you're not covering your pits and don't have moobs, what's the point? BTW - I in no way endorse Wiff Beaters.
wiffleball 4,788 Posted April 13, 2017 Sux wears them all the time. Just so he can run into his fave homo bar and yell "WHO WANTS TO LICK THE BEATER?"

MDC 7,082 Posted April 13, 2017 extra shirt = extra sweat Maybe but if you're wearing an undershirt it will absorb the sweat and it's not visible if it's v neck. If you're not wearing a t shirt and it's hot you'll have a visibly sweaty dress shirt.

5-Points 3,372 Posted April 13, 2017 I wear a pwt under a t-shirt. Tuck in the whitey, untuck the t-shirt. It does soak up sweat so you don't have wet spots on your outershirt.

wiffleball 4,788 Posted April 13, 2017 Related (and I am not shocked at all about Sux on this one): I don't care WHAT 'Old Navy' or 'Never 21' or whatever tells you - If you're a man and your balls have dropped, it is NEVER appropriate to wear a 'tank top'. Geeus, growing up, only women called it that. I see guys wearing that shiit - along with their plaid capri pants and keds and I just want to punch the fockers. ...But it's probably be a 'hate crime'. No matter WHAT you call it - It's focking Kweah. And only Kweah's wear that shiit. So, either you're nine years old or you're a cawksucker. That's your choices if you want to wear your sister's summer blouse.

kilroy69 1,213 Posted April 13, 2017 I typically don't even wear t shirts unless they ARE my undershirt and my dress shirt got stained. Even on the weekends I dress in polos or a short sleeve dress shirt. So the concept of wearing a wife beater for people to see is absurd to me.
