WhiteWonder 2,674 Posted January 28, 2018 You Texas golfers, does wind really affect putts THAT much? I understand it can some but the commentary on the broadcast acts like its just brutal putting in high winds. not a texas golfer but when you combine the gusting wind with the PGA green speeds, yeah, absolutely. cbfalcon 825 Posted January 28, 2018 You Texas golfers, does wind really affect putts THAT much? I understand it can some but the commentary on the broadcast acts like its just brutal putting in high winds. Yep, I hate putting in high winds. It affects the stability of my stance. And of course a smooth putting stroke will be affected more than a full speed swing by any gusts. Combine that with it having even a very slight effect on speed or break, and it can be quite a biitch on certain days.

KSB2424 3,148 Posted January 29, 2018 For next year, if you win in a playoff, you should get one extra shot. Just saying, and this has nothing to with this tournament it just occurred to me because you posted the final standings and they are still playing golf. Seems weird. Winning the tournament should carry some weight.

Winning the tournament should carry some weight. yeah. I actually lost the British Open by 1 shot a few years ago to CBF even though I had Zach Johnson who won the playoff. It's been pretty consistent that regulation golf is all that counts with tie breakers coming in the form of a match of golfers. but i would not at all be opposed to the tournament winner getting an extra shot. WhiteWonder 2,674 Posted January 29, 2018 Had extra holes had counted back then, Id have adapted and won that way. i don't think "extra holes" should ever count. as far as the PGA is concerned, they all finish, lets say 10 under for this event. Its not like Day and Noren are 12 under right now. Or if someone bogeys the first playoff hole they lose a stroke. i think (for next year, ofcourse) having the tournament winner get you an extra stroke under par could work. Likely wouldn't even impact any tournaments though.

No question. He is almost as big a doosh bag as tiger. 4 focking minutes? I don't care what the wind was doing. I can respect playing for the cash but you knew roughly where you were walking down the fairway. F you and Tiger crying about not playing out of rye grass. WhiteWonder 2,674 Posted January 29, 2018 the Holmes thing was d-baggy and perplexing. He's won 4 times on tour. He's in no danger of losing his tour card. Top 40 in Ryder points. He doesn't NEED the pay day so badly that he should be thinking about the risk/reward of playing for eagle or maybe making a 6. Ryder cup points would have had to be the only thing on his mind to play it safe.

WhiteWonder 2,674 Posted January 29, 2018 Im also just now realizing that Ed posted 1st = 120, 2nd = 60. That was probably before we added a 10th and like a diick, I just gave it to the winner maybe with 10 people now we can do a 120/60/20 split and finally pay 3rd place. i'll leave that up to Ed. I can see taking a minute if you're between clubs. but to ultimately lay up? why? it makes absolutely no sense unless you are so worried about trying to make the RC this year that you were too afraid you'd put it in the drink. WhiteWonder 2,674 Posted January 29, 2018 Hes a poosay. Period. I saw it today. it was his tournament to win on.... 14?, 15? whichever hole Noren went OB on his tee shot and Palmer put it in the bunker and Holmes yanked it OB from the middle of the fairway. He was shot after that. we agree hes a pussy im just saying on 18, you're JB Holmes. you play for the playoff there. If you're between clubs, you take the lesser club and just pump it. goes in the water? oh well.

patweisers44 815 Posted January 29, 2018 As I have stated before, I am part of a pool at work that picks guys for every tournament. JB Holmes is known as JB Layup because he, even with his prodigious distance, in this same tournament a couple years ago laid up with a chance to win on 18 from 220 or so. Knowing you needed an eagle to get into the playoff, taking over four minutes to play the shot (totally freezing Noren) and then LAYING UP is the triumvirate of Puss Dbag moves. cbfalcon 825 Posted January 29, 2018 I wasn't watching by that point, so unsure of his lie.....but I am reading he had 238 to the pin. I've played 18th holes and had similar yardage over water in which I needed birdie or eagle to shoot in the 70's and I went for it. So what if I don't make it and shoot an 83 instead of an 81? His risk was T6 instead of finishing solo 4th. That difference in prize money is $331K vs $248K. For a guy that has earned $21M, that's nothing. lame. Although I did beat Pat and Ed in a 3 person Ryder cup version of this that morphed into the Edex idea.

As I was thinking and as they mentioned last night on GC, maybe he was thinking about Ryder cup points since hes played in 2 previously and at the time was like 30-something in the ranks. but would someone really be thinking about that, this early in the season? Booyah You are ahead of CBF "on paper" by 7, but in reality that means you are down 15 or 20. The Detroit Pistons used to have a saying about beating the Celtics in the old Garden that is appropriate here: "To beat the Celtics in the Garden by 2, you have to beat them by 20"
