tanatastic 2,061 Posted May 7, 2018 Super Hero Movies go like this for me: Superman - Christopher Reeves sequels were turrible. Batman - Michael Keaton then all the Batman movies were turrible Dark Knight great job, finally Super Hero movies done well X-Men turrible... Dark Knight set the standard - it's all turrible from here. SpiderMan, Avengers, Hulk, IronMan, DeadPool, etc, etc, etc... just turrible. Deadpool is rated R and fantastic. X-men largely bad, Logan was great (rated R). Spiderman 2 and homecoming are excellent, the rest ehh. The Marvel studios movies (iron man, Avengers etc) no need to defend them, they are critically acclaimed and some of the highest grossing in history. Batman you nailed it. Superman with Reeves was great, even the bad ones like 3-4, but they are more campy and for kids than anything marvel has done and it’s not close. You have nostalgia goggles on. TD Ryan2 316 Posted May 7, 2018 What about Logan? Is this that really original one where the XMan gets all moody, angry, and psychologically tortured by his "condition"? Don't make me angry Mr. McGee, you won't like me when I'm angry!

tanatastic 2,061 Posted May 7, 2018 I turned deadpool off after 20 mins or so My brother didn’t like it either. I have no problem with people not liking movies or genres or any of that. Everyone can like what they want. I only go on rants when people stand on soap boxes and act like they are just for kids when more adults see them than any movies ever. For example, I’m a gamer and I can’t stand Fortnite, the most popular game in the world right now. Can’t stand PUBG or any shooter games at all really despite worldwide acclaim and addiction. Cloaca du jour 2,115 Posted May 7, 2018 I grew up with comics as a kid so and I read alot of sci fi and fantasy books. I like all the movies... some more than others ..true, but I enjoy suspending belief and enjoy a good story. Even the unmentioned Fantastic 4 movies... the last one was way out there but had good points. Too much info to type on a phone... leave it to say dont beat your drum about how cool you are for not enjoying pop culture. You look old and sad.

GobbleDog 907 Posted May 7, 2018 I haven't been in a movie theatre since 1995... Apollo 13. Last "superhero" movie I saw (on tv) was Batman starring Michael Keaton. It sucked. I was 6 when Star Wars came out and loved it along with the next 2. Then they went on a 20 year break and I grew too old. I've seen parts of the new Star Wars on tv and realized it ain't for me. Jar Jar Binx was terrible and then I saw Yoda bouncing around like a ping pong ball while fighting... and then Samuel L Jackson in space for some reason. Also all the computer animation...aka glorified cartoons. I liked it better when they had to make costumes look real and use model planes and such. Don't understand why adults love superhero movies either. And this is from a nerd who still plays video games on my pc.

Too much info to type on a phone... leave it to say dont beat your drum about how cool you are for not enjoying pop culture. You look old and sad. Thats my problem with them though. Theyre not good stories. At all. Its all pretty much the same. Meet boy. Boy meets a girl. Remember her, shes gonna end up being kidnapped and dangling from a bridge or something later, probably scantily glad. Now boy gets bitten/irradiated/chemicled whatever. Now he has powers. Uh oh. Meet nasty evil guy. Nasty evil guy kidnaps girl. Boy and evil guy have a ridiculous fight where half a city gets destroyed. Neither of them can be hurt really, so their pummeling of each other is largely a waste of time. Boy wins, delivers a pithy one miner, and kisses girl. Foreshadowing sequel. Roll credits. Yawn.
penultimatestraw 473 Posted May 8, 2018 I watch them on planes, because they are free. Most recently saw Wonder Woman and Thor. Thought both were meh at best, emphasizing special effects over plot and character development. Then again, the same can be said for most action movies. Theres tons of character development in the MCU. For example, the Hulk is angry, Thor is arrogant and Iron Man is funny. This sh1t is practically Dickensian.
titans&bucs&bearsohmy! 2,745 Posted May 8, 2018 In all seriousness, some are very enjoyable movies to watch. I dont get dismissing the entire genre. I have no objection to the existence of the genre. Whatever. I like a couple of the franchises, mainly guardians of the galaxy. But does that have to be ALL we focking get? Ever? Can you throw some war movies, or a gangster flick, or something that requires a bit more brain activity than Ooohh! That blow up big! I get the allure of mindless action. Thats fine. But the other is nice too.
vuduchile 1,941 Posted May 8, 2018 Im old and crotchety, but we just finished the movie draft and the 00s and 10s were by far the worst decades for movies. No surprise that superhero movies have surged during those decades. Hollywood just doesnt make many great movies anymore. TV and streaming services are producing better entertainment than the film industry now.

I get the allure of mindless action. Thats fine. But the other is nice too. With competition from video on demand and other formats plus television generally producing better shows, Hollywood has decided that tentpole action blockbuster franchises with toy and happy meal tie ins are the most profitable films to make. Safe for the kids and throw in a few lines of dialogue and your average suburban dad who hadnt read a book in 10 years thinks hes watching Shakespeare.
Electric Mayhem 35 Posted May 8, 2018 But does that have to be ALL we focking get? Ever? Can you throw some war movies, or a gangster flick... There are tons of other movies released every year. Dunkirk, Get Out, The Post, Wind River etc are all pretty recent releases as examples. I don't think any MCU movie was up for Best Picture. You also have to remember that it's still a businesses. Small Indy films can take risks because the financial commitment is small. Disney is swinging for the fences when it sinks hundreds of millions of dollars into one film, because it knows it will get the ROI.

And that always has been true to one degree or another. But look at all the huge tv shows in the last 20 years. Sopranos Deadwood GOT Walking dead Breaking bad Sons of anarchy Peaky blinders Could go on and on. Any of these could have been damn fine movie franchises. For some reason, they arent trying. Hell, frankly, even as the superhero genre goes, I like the agents of shield tv show better than the movies. There is at least some character development and story line there. Im not saying dont also make the marvel sh!t for the kids and such. Thats always happened. But while yes, certain individual movies are shattering records, on the whole, the box office has been in the toilet for years. Part of the reason why is they have abandoned large swaths of the market. We used to get crap like men in Black. Summer blockbuster schlock. And then we got Shawshank and forest gump. We got Star Wars, blockbuster fare. And we got The Godfather and casino and Scarface. Fock, it doesnt even really look like they bother to make chick flicks much anymore. Just diversify a bit is all im saying.
