Short man syndrome really does exist, Oxford University academics have found, after a study showed feeling smaller makes people paranoid, distrustful and scared of others. Scientists used virtual reality technology to reduce the height of volunteers travelling on a computer-simulated Tube train by 10in (25cm). The experience of being shorter increased reports of negative feelings, such as being incompetent, dislikeable or inferior.

It also heightened levels of mistrust, fear and paranoia. Height-reduced participants were more likely to think someone else in the virtual train carriage was deliberately staring, thinking badly about them, or trying to cause distress. Researchers believe the findings demonstrate the psychologically detrimental effect of experiencing social situations from a position closer to the ground.

I had a friend like that in HS except he was actually a bad motherfocker (probably 5'3 or 5'4). Literally never saw this dude lose a fight. Fought a couple kids twice his size a few times.

I realized how bad it must suck to be a short dude when I stood next to and conversed with guys who were 6 ft 7 and up. Having to look up to talk to someone sucks.

 

If youre under 6 ft, youre constantly looking up to the more taller guys in the world. At work, at the bar, the gym, on the courts, etc.

 

Its no wonder why so many develop these complexes. Theyre constantly being made to feel inadequate as they go thru their daily routines.

I hit puberty super early, so that's another reason why I was taller. I was this tall in 7th grade. I stopped growing. It kind of sucked to see all my good friends go from way shorter than me, to 6" taller. I got over it though. If anything, it makes my job easier. I can get into tight spots to weld a lot easier.
