wiffleball 4,788 Posted July 5, 2020 Anybody ever take these? I mean, most of them are just BS. But if an employer wants me to take a couple specific like the counting type of assessment test. Because apparently that whole degree thing doesn't mean much anymore. I'm thinking, it's the internet. there have to be answers online. Or something. Anybody? Employers are looking for ways to weed out the idiots with online degrees without getting sued.

Nothing wrong with an online degree from a regionally accredited institution. Theres plenty out there. Theres a reason why online accredited credits dont transfer to B&M regionally accredited schools, and its more than politics.

It has been increasingly difficult to hire people straight out of college. It has gotten to the point that it is much better to hire someone 3 or 4 years out of school that realizes their professors were wrong about the real world. Im talking regionally accredited schools that offer online programs. Just a few randomly...Villanova, AZ State, Univ of Maryland. How would you know in an interview if someone had an online degree from one of these schools?
Bert 1,128 Posted July 5, 2020 University of Phoenix, WVU and all the other crap they advertise on TV. We also do back ground checks with the “university”.

kilroy69 1,213 Posted July 5, 2020 The tests are timed to 3 mins so its not AS easy to cheat if you have to search for an answer that may have multiple right ways to respond.
nobody 2,540 Posted July 5, 2020 People lie on their resume constantly, so this is a way to see if they actually have the skill they claim they have. I'm getting tired of people saying they know something just because they know that the term exists.
wiffleball 4,788 Posted July 5, 2020 So...no help? You'd think the test and answers would be online...
IGotWorms 4,057 Posted July 5, 2020 Online degrees are silly. This isn’t focking Rosetta Stone where you listen to a few tapes to figure out how to say thank you and where’s the bathroom
IGotWorms 4,057 Posted July 5, 2020 But also the assessment tests are dumb and dehumanizing. Industrial psychology is something the Nazis would’ve come up.

So its silly when a student gets the exact same content and produces the same work, just from a different location? Are all online degrees all equal? Hell no but they aren't silly
MTSkiBum 1,620 Posted July 6, 2020 I think online degrees are a great way to get a college education, however I think that college is extremely over-rated and many jobs should not require it. Skills tests are also stupid and you may miss someone that would be great at the job, i may be biased because i work with many people in the software field with non-traditional backgrounds. There are really good developers with mechanical engineering degrees, mba's, etc and they would have missed out on opportunities had skills tests been implemented. FlyinHeadlock 459 Posted July 6, 2020 Many things can't be re-produced by online programs. Take COMM 101 talking in front of people. Some people struggle with it and fall apart. They need to practice in front of actual people. Not getting that online. Also working in groups on a project. Taking soil samples, working on a wind tunnel experiment with a team. Not getting that either online. And how many are really flunking out of online schools. Almost nobody. If they do some shoddy work and pay their fees they still get a B. A real brick and mortar no way. I've been in classes where half the people flunk out because the course was brutal.

IF, there is such thing as privilege, and we all know it is rich vs. poor, not white vs. black, then the significance of a non-professional college degree is it. You’re talking about the difference between aptitude and skill. If you’re looking for the skill, the assessments would be helpful. If you’re looking for aptitude, they’re trash. That’s a hiring decision. Personally, I opt for aptitude almost every time, but sometimes you need someone who can actually do what they claim they can do on their resume day 1.
