Foo fighters can't argue their popularity as a rock band.           Tina Turner sure.                     NY Dolls are a yes

Yeah, she is also a great song writer. She did a concert with James Taylor that I saw on PBS a few years back that was pretty good.

Jay-Z - Yes

Mary J. Blige - Don't know much about her.

Iron Maiden - Hell yeah.

Tina Turner - Hell yeah.

Go-Go's - Yes.

Rage - Hell yeah.

Kate Bush - Maybe

Devo - Prolly should

Chaka Khan - Yes

Carole King - Hell yeah

Fela Kuti - I dunno.

LL Cool J - I dunno.

New York Dolls - Yes

Todd Rundgren - Meh

Dionne Warwick - Yes

I wish they'd dig deeper into punk and 1980s alternative rock. Bands such as Black Flag, The Germs, X, Fear, Fugazi, Husker Du, Big Boys, Replacements and Butth0le Surfers, etc.,  ought to be considered.

Todd Rundgren had what, one hit? I love Hello It's Me, but really? One song.

You'll remember this one:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xoX52Sua8Oc

But, yeah, only a few hits. He is pretty well-known for Utopia, being a multi-instrumentalist and being pretty experimental, but maybe not enough to get him into the HOF, me thinks. He did have a pretty big influence on electronic music.

To me, influence is the one of the key aspects of getting into the HOF.

Good catch. Yep I remember that one.

That's what it's become. We should have a Geek R&R hall of fame and do it right.

1. Elvis.

I saw him with the Ringo band a few years ago. It was a pretty great show. It had him playing various instruments, the guitar player from Toto and the dude who sang "Black Magic Woman" from Santana, among others.

They played each other's stuff, and it was pretty great. Steve Lukather can SHRED.

I'd seen Paul McCartney a few months earlier, so it was kind of cool to see two Beatles within a short amount of time.

I always wanted to see Ringo and his all star band, but never did. I saw Paul and almost walked out on him. The first half hour it was all from his new album at the time, Flower in the Attic or something. Then he started with the Beatles and Wings stuff and it got good.

I saw him around 2015. If he had a new album out, I don't remember him playing much off of it. It was pretty much all Beatles, Wings and his best solo stuff. It was just him and his guitar for "Yesterday." It was a great show all around, with lots of dynamics, soft one moment and explosions and stuff the next.

What a focking joke!!!

the only ones deserving IMO are....

Devo, Todd Rundgren, Carole King, Tina Turner

It was 1990 when I saw him. It was a good show after he stopped with the new stuff. Linda was even on stage. LOL.

as far as rock goes.....

how does Iron Maiden get in before Priest?

also......Foo Fighters, New York Dolls & The Go-Gos 🤣  I'd put local cover bands in before those three

I'd put the Dead Kennedys and Butth0le Surfers in before most of them.

When Stevie Nicks got in as a solo artist a few years ago, I was like WTF, how many great albums did she have and how did she influence music?

The answer to both questions was no.

She had a couple of hits, but I went back and listened to some of her entire albums, and they were nothing special.

I agree on Priest. I thought they'd gotten in, for some reason.

Foo Fighters are the best rock band of the last quarter century, and the New York Dolls had an enormous impact on punk and alternative music, much like The Stooges did.

The Go-Gos moved the sticks for chick rock and had some enormously popular albums and massive hits. They started out as kind of a punk band and had a huge impact on alternative rock down the road, particularly bands with women in them.

The Go-Go's were the first all female "rock" band to write and perform their own music.  There's no denying their influence on female musicians who followed them, and for a couple of years they were a dominant force in pop/new wave music.  Is that enough to make them HOF worthy?  I don't know.  Given the watered down nature of what qualifies for induction worthy it may be.  If you consider what a HOF SHOULD be, I think you can make a case.  But not at least considering them is lazy and biased.

I don't know enough about a lot of the artists mentioned because they're not my kind of music (Go-Go's really aren't either but they are a little bit of a guilty pleasure) to comment on their influence/worthiness.  From my youth it seems like Iron Maiden were a huge metal band at the time.  Tina Turner is a no brainer.  Carole King is considered one of the best and influential songwriters in history.  I don't think Rundgren is worthy, even with his production/studio resume.

I agree that both Iron Maiden and Judas Priest should be in the HoF.

Perhaps Judas Priest is being shut out due to Rob Halford's sexual preference?  Time to protest!!!!!   🏳️‍🌈🏳️‍🌈🏳️‍🌈

I just looked up some people not in the R&R hall of fame. Jethro Tull? Gram Parsons? Bad Company? Boston? Chubby Checker? Cher? Jim Croce? Emerson, Lake and Palmer? Foreinger? Peter Frampton? The Guess Who? Teddy Pendergrass? Iggy Pop? Diana Ross? The Spinners? Steppenwolf? Three Dog Night? War? Barry White? Johnny Winter? Steve Winwood? Blood Sweet and Tears? Jimmy Buffett? Phil Collins? 5th Deminsion? Foghat? Billy Idol? Meatloaf? Peter Paul and Mary?

Outside of Tina Turner, I either never heard of these people (such as... Mary J Blige, Kate Bush, NY Dolls, etc), or don't think they were anything special (such as... Devo, the Go-Go's, LL Cool J).  As I see it, only Turner should get in.

Seems like they'd be even more motivated to put Priest in the hall.

I remember thinking when Halford came out that this made the music even more terrifying.

That gave a whole new perspective to "Eat Me Alive":

Wrapped tight around me
Like a second flesh hot skin
Cling to my body
As the ecstasy begins
Your wild vibrations
Got me shooting from the hip
Crazed and insatiable let 'er rip
Eat me alive
Sounds like an animal
Panting to the beat
Groan in the pleasure zone
Gasping from the heat
Gut-wrenching frenzy
That deranges every joint
I'm gonna force you at gun point
To eat me alive
Bound to deliver
As you give and I collect
Squealing impassioned
As the rod of steel injects
Lunge to the maximum
Spread-eagled to the wall
You're well equipped to take it all
So eat me alive

Ha.  Yeah, definitely made me interpret the lyrics of many Priest songs differently after he came out (no pun intended)

Halford definitely looked his absolute gheyest during the "Turbo" years with his balding on top but rocking a long blond mullet and red leather.  A dark period in an otherwise exceptional career.
