Utilit99 4,099 Posted June 9, 2021 My girlfriend (of 9 years) helps me keep my life ordered. And she is a completely different personality than I am. I'm more carefree, she's more structured. It's a great mix for the both of us. I help her relax the burden her asian parents put on her life that she carries with her from her upbringing, and she is more no nonsense and that opens my eyes at times. 1 1

jerryskids 6,166 Posted June 9, 2021 Wife and I met as engineers at the same company, and we made within dollars of each other when we got married. As such we've always had an egalitarian relationship. When we had kids I was the breadwinner while she stayed home with them. When I later needed a job she was able to get one and help us keep going. Now I'm either going to be on disability or retired (which is why we are selling our house), and my wife will be the primary earner again. Basically we have been partners in life, so I guess that is what she has given me.

titans&bucs&bearsohmy! 2,745 Posted June 9, 2021 She does pretty much all the cleaning, mostly because the mess bothers her long before I even notice it. She cooks every day or two. I really don't care if she does or not, but that's nice. Obviously she does the secks stuff. Pretty much upon request, although fairly vanilla about it, and I don't request often honestly. Other than that, not at all really. We keep completely separate finances and divide all expenses right down the middle, so money isn't really a thing in our marriage. She wants something she buys it, and vice versa. On gift giving occasions she complains that I spend too much on her, that's about the extent of it. We're pretty much hermits these days. We rarely go out, and other than our coworkers who live on our floor, we have no local friends. From an emotional side, she backs me the fock down when I'm ready to go to war over stupid sh!t, as I'm a bit of a hothead. Conversely, she tends to be a bit of a doormat (most fillipinas are) so when war needs to be waged, I do it. Shes good cop, I'm the heavy. I find our jobs. I negotiate our contracts. I plan our trips. Anything anything needs to be written in English, I do it, as it is obviously not her first language. It's very different from relationships I've had before. We never fight really. She, growing up dirt poor (I'm talking 10 kids in a literal hut made out of sheet metal with not enough food poor, didn't have shoes poor) has been used to being treated poorly. The jobs she had before were outright slavery. I don't let anyone push her around. Conversely, she really appreciates the things we get to do and the things she gets to buy far more than women I'm used to do. I figure she'll get sick of my sh!t eventually though.

Cloaca du jour 2,126 Posted June 9, 2021 Been married 22 years.. My wife is amazingly caring which counters my cynical get off my lawn side. She is better with organization than me. Im the breadwinner but she handles the budget. We like a lot of the same things. We have had struggles but always pull through. We are stronger together.
supermike80 1,599 Posted June 9, 2021 She's smarter than me. Shes very good at listening to my stressful events and breaking them down for me..which helps me tremendously when it comes to de-stressing. She takes care of the entire house. That's new since she was laid off due to Covid, but I'm good with it. Laundry, cooking, cleaning. All with her. Shes a better negotiator than I am as well.

Hawkeye21 2,211 Posted June 9, 2021 She's the organized one since she's a teacher and coach. She gets the kids signed up for sports, camps, lessons and other activities. She coaches their sports teams. She's usually the one that lines up a babysitter so we can go out for a night or a couple days. She does most of the laundry but I help with that when I can. She's a busy woman.
TimmySmith 2,782 Posted June 9, 2021 She is a better person than I am. More Godly. Staunchly moral. Knows right from wrong instantly. Would never do a thing to injure another. Wouldn't steal from another under any circumstance and would turn in anyone she saw doing so, after she confronted them to allow them to rectify their deed. She is brave. Of course she has poor qualities as well like all of us. She inspires me to stay as straight as I can, which ain't that straight. Who knows what I might be without her.

Gladiators 1,960 Posted June 9, 2021 We compliment each other's strengths/weaknesses pretty well. Wife - keeps a clean house, cooks when she has time, does the morning school routine, takes care of gardening, does all the medical/dental stuff for the kids and dogs Me - run the finances, handle most of the online stuff (register kids for sports, school registrations/communications, schedule vacations, etc.), take care of all the house maintenance My wife's works extremely hard. She rarely sits down and relaxes. She doesn't have to work, but does so because she enjoys it and likes to get out/be productive. Most of the women she works with sit on their phones or gossip when there's down time. My wife is the one cleaning, checking stock and helping others who are behind. I'm a GC member, so my wife is perfect.

RLLD 3,928 Posted June 9, 2021 We have a partnership. We do not have to ask each other to step up in a given situation. We see need and we fill it, period. Now gender roles still arise where my wife might be too inconvenienced, but I also like being needed and useful. One of the challenges for me as the kids grow is that I am less needed....and that is sometimes painful for me. But it is also gratifying too, its complicated. When I ask for help, mostly from the kids, and they shirk it I do point out that everyone in this house needs me, asks from me, and I never ask for anything.....and if I decide to stop helping it will hurt an awful lot, so on that rare occasion where I ask for something, people better step the fock up.....

DonS 3,239 Posted June 9, 2021 My wife is very organized so she takes care of paying all the bills. Her healthcare background also comes in handy when figuring out medical insurance crap. Oh yeah, it also came in handy during my fun summer of radiation/chemo/feeding tube. Now I get to return the favor but thankfully her treatment has been easy peasy in comparison. So far at least. <knock on wood> She can also bring home the bacon, fry it up in a pan, and she never let's me forget I'm a man.
NorthernVike 2,082 Posted June 9, 2021 Wife went to see the doctor with two black eyes. The doctor asked her what happened? She replied that her husband comes home after work and having a few beers and hits her. He told her to drink a cup of water every day just before her husband comes home and to hold the water in her mouth. Two weeks latter she goes back to the doctor, her eyes are bright and beautiful. She asks him how drinking and holding a cup of water would work so well. His reply... see what happens when you keep your mouth shut. A life lesson for naomi.

This thread is like when a sitcom in the 80s/90s would have a "very special' episode which tackled serious topics. "In this week's very special episode of Blossom, the show tackles the difficult abortion choices that Blossom faces after she is brutally gang raped by illegal immigrants at a Menudo concert" We'll get back to normal soon. 1
