Have you ever placed a really big wager where you gave a TON of points?

Recommended Posts

Thinking about things like NFL games where there is a 17 point underdog or something.  Have you ever looked at one of those games and put a ton of money down on the favorite?  How did it go?

A single bet? No.

On a typical Saturday/Sunday I generally have around $3000-$4000 in play but that is spread out over multiple play.

I always take the fav in the NFL when big points are given. Works out 80% of the time and average betters are suckers for the points. Although a big bet to me is like 60 bucks.

A couple decades ago I would try this alot on Saturdays for college football. You get a powerhouse versus some shlub and you start getting your 30-40 point spreads. Sadly I could never pick the right team. My thinking was generally take the underdog. How many times can one team really score? Just get a couple stops and at least put up some points and I should cover. Nope.

So then I'd go the other way and give the points. And that's when my above thinking would win out. I'm a loser again.

I'd definitely say I had more fun taking points though. 6 touchdowns is quit a cushion.

Not football. Bet heavily on the Bulls in the 90’s. They usually always covered the spread one year. Every once in a while the spreads were ridiculous. I’d take the spread. In that one season, I won 93% of all bets placed on the Bulls or their opponents. Put a down payment on my house as I made so much.

I remember in my early 20’s I put $500 on a 17.5 underdog (Browns maybe - not sure) and was watching from Baltimore (Green Turtle in Fells Point) - won by the half point !!!!!

I have a hard time doing it, I had the 49ers -23 vs the Chargers in the super bowl a few years back

49ers won 49-26

all that stress for nothing

Chargers got 2 2pt conversions in the 4th Q to draw to a push

Last year, I teased the Tampa / Detroit game to be the Bucs -23.5.  I bet $25 (+480), on the Bucs and won.  I'd have given 35 if they let me.
