Student Loan “forgiveness”

Recommended Posts

The dude just lit 300 billion on fire for no reason, raised all of our taxes, and gave us all a pay cut due to the resulting inflation.  What a focking disaster this guy is.  I guess no mean tweets though.

Trump didn't light money on fire for covid in an attempt to win the election?

Smart person: You want to give me $100k?  What's the catch?

Yep.  There is no defending this.

So they claimed the loans didn't have interest when they gave them out or something?

It isn't that they said there was no interest....it is that the rate is significantly high- and you can't really shop around on loans.

Again- when I was paying my loans- at least 1 or 2 were 6.8% interest. My mortgage is 3.3% An average car interest right now for a new vehicle is 4%. Which is why I said- I'd be far more accepting of fixing and somehow lowering interest rates than just saying "10,000 grand gone."

The problem here in your scenario is that it could apply to many people in many different situations and not just student loans.

Do you understand how a conversation works?

You: A therefore B

Me: A isn't true

You: I know A isn't true.  Did you also know A isn't true because of X?

What the fūck is going on here?  Are you just trying to change the subject because you realize your argument doesn't make sense?  Just make up a new argument why this sucks.  There are plenty of them out there.  I'm on your team here.  I just don't want our team making dumb arguments.

So if he weighs the same as a duck…

If this becomes reality, I’m going to be so pissed off that I won’t be able to see straight.

I paid my way thru college with loans and jobs and then repaid $30k over twenty years.  Everyone else can do the same.

$30k in student loans is nothing compared to what a lot of people are dealing with today. Costs for education have skyrocketed since you went to school. On top of that, housing prices have ballooned and you have the younger generation either swimming in debt and/or unable to even attempt at buying a home.

This solution is obviously pointless as it doesn't even attempt to address the actual problem, but you can't compare our situation in our 20's/30's to what the next generation has had to deal with.

This $10k giveaway bothers me because its an obvious vote-grab that is expensive and pointless but funding college tuition is a major issue that needs to be addressed. I know we all like to tell younger kids to pick themselves up by their bootstraps but that was a whole lot easier 15 years ago.

The other difference between smart people and dumb people is dumb people don't know how to assess value.

For a dumb person, the concept of price vs value doesn't exist.  The only concept they understand is that they want it.  They want to go to university, out of state, no major, no idea what they want to do... no price is too high for that.  Can't spend a year or two at a JUCO to save 10s of thousands of dollars.  They need the experience.  They want a house in a certain area.  No price is too high.  They'll leverage themselves to the hilt and buy that damn house.  They want to go to a bar and live the club life.  $18 drinks... no problem.  Spend whatever it takes.  They need to have that life.  I can get the $200 cell phone, but I want the $1200 iPhone that has no extra features that I even need.  Gotta have that flag ship phone, though.

The only way to stop these people from spending money is to keep them from having money to spend. They have to max out their credit and live paycheck to paycheck with no other means to spend in order to keep them from overspending.  And these are the people we think are going to use extra money wisely.  focking retarded.

Trump overspent, too.  He was trying to fire a bazooka at impending recession and overshot.

We're actively trying to fight the resulting inflation, and Biden is going out of his way to exacerbate the problem.

I'm not sure how much of it is "too stupid to realize they can't pay back the loans" versus "Interest makes it harder, or longer, to pay off those loans"

Also, what leads you to the conclusion that they will run out and waste the money on BS driving up inflation?

Income-Based Repayment (IBR) On the Income-Based Repayment plan, your monthly student loan payments are capped at 10% or 15% of your discretionary income, depending on when the loans were disbursed. Your student loans will also have a 20- or 25-year repayment term.

The first Covid relief bill, under Trump, was passed bipartisan. Everyone wanted it. Biden’s was solely the Dems without the Republicans who warned against it. HTH.

So you think the banks are going to lower the interest rate on these loans?

I doubt it- but that's why I said I think the federal government should've focused on that as opposed to just giving 10,000 to people/

What really is annoying about this BS is this is probably just the down payment.  If you think about the play here, you don't make full payment up front for services rendered.  You give the voters $10k now and then when 2024 rolls around, you have to say, "see I gave you partial relief.  I can give you more, if I get re-elected."

So the federal government would pick up the interest portion of the payments?

Trump at least had a reason.  If he didn't spend, we definitely would've gone into recession.  Biden's spending only worsens a problem, we're trying to avoid.

One can argue recession was inevitable and this only made it worse, but they all have a reason, they all want votes.

As of Jan. 2022 you could get a Student loan as low as 1.6%.

they should spend more time I’m not giving out loans for majors that can never repay them. They should make the universities guarantee the student loans.

How much does Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez’s ‘the squad’ owe in student loans?
Most members of “The Squad” — the coterie of socialist legislators led by Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-N.Y.) — fall into this category. Collectively, they owe between $180,004 and $400,000 in student loans, the records show.

Many, many businesses would've gone under without trump's spending.  Biden's spending is making the whole nation poorer.  There's a pretty big difference.  Trump "bought" his votes by doing what was good for the economy.  Biden is buying his votes by damaging it.

I wonder if you make 126k, if  you could donate to charity or something to get under the cutoff or does it start phasing out at some lower amount.

Email I got from our CPA firm this afternoon noted that it’s not currently known whether the threshold is based on taxable income or adjusted gross income.

No. Only one team went off spending needlessly after they were warned it would lead to inflation. Can you guess what happened?

I'm okay with my college loans-but I'd like to get some money back on pre-school, overpriced and not worth it.

We can have a conversation, no? I would be interested to know why you disagree. I am always open to different opinions and am open to changing my mind when I am presented with facts I am not aware of.

Piece of sh¡t really stuck it those multibillion dollar business owners by taking money out of middle class pockets.

The funny thing is if that is his real problem, he could've just raised corporate taxes, and that probably wouldn't have been such a bad thing. I'm sure he would've found a way to fock that up too though.
