jerryskids 6,162 Posted December 8 Update! SMU still sucks. Seriously, this is embarrassing.
jonmx 2,195 Posted December 8 The selection committee will have a fun time ranking the teams and setting up the matchups. Right now I would project it to be: #1 Seed: Oregon (bye) #2 Seed: Georgia (bye) #3 Seed: Boise State (bye) #4 Seed: ASU (bye) #5 Seed: Texas vs. #12 Seed: SMU #6 Seed: Penn State vs. #11 Seed Clemson #7 Seed: Notre Dame vs. #10 Indiana #8 Seed: Ohio St. vs. #9 Seed: Tenn Lots to debate though: Who gets the 4th and who gets the 12th between ASU and Clemson. ASU has a slight edge and I think gets the nod. The 5 thru 7 seeds are pretty much interchangeable. How much will they penalize Texas and Penn St (assuming they lose) verse Noter Dame. IMO they keep their relative ranking the same. Also the final at large Seed #11 will be between SMU (assuming they lose) and Alabama. As long as SMU keeps it close, I think they stay ahead of Alabama which bumps Alabama out of the tourney. But Alabama always gets some favoritism, but Alabama really needs SMU to win. The other positions are locks.
jerryskids 6,162 Posted December 8 We bought two tickets to the Fiesta Bowl last night on the hopes that ASU gets the #4 and plays there. I suppose we can resell them if needed. Oof, the fees tho... but it's worth the risk. Forks up!

cmh6476 918 Posted December 8 not really anything other than college related, but I took my daughter and two friends (HS freshmen volleyball players) to the KU/ Florida ncaa tourney game that KU hosted last night. KU ended up losing, but man those girls are good. The house was packed and energy electric, and it went to 5 sets and down to the wire on the final set. They had a great time, and it is nice to get that kind of energy going in women's sports. Basketball just isn't the same for me watching women, and I can't get into soccer no matter if it's a guy or gal kicking the ball. But volleyball can be fairly exciting. jerryskids 6,162 Posted December 8 ASU is #4 and gets the bye! But, they play in the Peach Bowl, not Fiesta... Boise State is in the Fiesta, plays winner of Penn State and SMU (SMU edged out Alabama). Anyone want Fiesta Bowl tickets?
Gepetto 1,192 Posted December 8 SMU got seeded higher than Clemson who they just lost to. I understand though, Clemson has 3 losses. I'm verry happy Alabama is out.
Voltaire 4,918 Posted December 9 Among teams that didn't make the playoffs, somehow Michigan got stuck playing Alabama. The first team locked out at the door to the dance. Excuse me but we're not competitive nd are going to get blown out. We don't have a quarterback and we suck this year. The 2024 Wolverines beat Ohio State, mission accomplished, now our 7-5 team should just fade away. Wind the year down in the Jimmy's Auto Towing and Repair of greater Cheboygan Bowl against Western Michigan, not Alabama. I mean, I happen to like how we always beat Alabama, but that's because we only play them every ten years or so, and the years we do that are when we have a good team. We just played them last year. In all seriousness, why not give Western Michigan a shot at knocking off the in-state bully in a down year when they have a decent shot at actually accomplishing it? jonmx 2,195 Posted December 9 Who are your favorite longshots? In a year where there really hasn't been a dominant team, the longer odds teams are attractive.. If each game was a coinflip, the odds would be 16 to 1 for the 5-12th seeds and 8 to 1 for the 1-4th seeds. The current odds are: Texas +360 Georgia +360 Oregon +380 OSU +500 Penn St. +600 ND. +1200 Tenn +2500 Indiana +4000 SMU. +4500 Arizona St. +6000 Clemson. +6000 Boise St. +7500 By virtue of having a bye, ASU and Boise St. look attractive to me. Say SMU beats Penn St, Boise St then has a very winnable game and they are in the final 4. Likewise if Clemson beats Texas, ASU only has to beat Clemson to get to the final 4. Tennessee is a darn good team to be at +2500, but they have to beat OSU and Oregon just to get to the final 4. Boise State and ASU are being disrespected and so is Clemson to a lesser extent. Georgia should be the favorite with Oregon next. Oregon may be the best team, but their path will be tougher. I would not touch Texas at those odds, the extra game is a huge disadvantage. I already have IU at +50000 earlier on, as well as $6k they won me for just making the tourney. I will throw $100 at Boise St and ASU.
jerryskids 6,162 Posted December 9 8 hours ago, cmh6476 said: You want Houston I assume as they would probably travel better? Houston? SMU is in Dallas. On a random note, the Big 12 Championship was in Dallas, it would be weird to have such a game in your city and your team is in a different conference. Anyway, I presume that Penn State would travel better. Plus, Boise St. vs. SMU, not much panache IMO. We've decided to put them up and try to get our money back, but if not, we'll go and enjoy the game. It's NYE and the only game on, and we never have anything to do that night these days. Also, I grew up in PA so I'm fond of Penn State. As I type this, it occurs to me that a lot of my FB friends from PA are big Penn State fans, so if they make it, I might offer to sell them to any who travel out.
