Apparently Jada Pinkett Smith Has Decided For You That Cleopatra Was Actually Black

Well, she was a mix of greek and other elements near Greece, but yeah....she is considered to be Greek.   She was certainly dark complected.  I surmise that the goal here is to point to that in any way possible as some sort of attempt to assuage some personal insufficiency.

You sometimes see parents doing this.  Someone will talk about their kid doing something cool, and then someone else has to chime in.....just so you know their DNA is also creating some special new human as well....and then you have all these parents essentially using their kids as a social bludgeon to prove their status within the group.

This is the same thing Pinkett is doing here, and others seem to need to do in order to pacify their sense of inferiority.

Cool. Does this mean we can remake Roots with white people as slaves now?  I mean, if we're going to go all in on revisionist propaganda, why not?

Let's also remake Black Panther with all white actors.  Let's see how that sits with Jada and her crew.

The racist hypocrisy and racist double-standards are alive and well in America.  It's unbelievable that stuff like this doesn't get laughed right out of the building, much less given a green light, a budget and a release.  This is f'n nuts.

Netflix Is Getting Sued For Portraying Cleopatra As Black. Now The Film’s Director Speaks Out

....A new Netflix series, Queen Cleopatra has come under fire for its choice in casting the lead role, which has even resulted in a lawsuit against the streaming service, and now the director is speaking out. Director Tina Gharvari is behind the upcoming Netflix series Queen Cleopatra. The series will combine dramatized events with historians discussing Cleopatra, including discussions of the ruler’s possible ethnic make up. However, the decision to cast Adele James, a Black actress, has already resulted in backlash, as a lawyer in Egypt has actually filed suit against the production. In a story for Variety, Gharvari says she chose the right actress for the job, and she thinks James probably looks more like the ancient ruler than many actresses who have played the role before. She explains…

"After much hang-wringing and countless auditions, we found in Adele James an actor who could convey not only Cleopatra’s beauty, but also her strength. What the historians can confirm is that it is more likely that Cleopatra looked like Adele than Elizabeth Taylor ever did."

In the lawsuit, filed in Egypt by attorney Mahmoud al-Semary, Newsweek reports that the streaming service is accused of “erasing the Egyptian identity” and has asked a court to take legal action against Netflix, including blocking the streaming service in Egypt. Approximately 100,000 people have a Netflix subscription in Egypt.

As Tina Gharvari explains in her piece, Cleopatra’s ethnic make up is a topic of debate among historians, and, as such, what she looked like can only be theorized. Her father was Macedonian, but her mother’s identity is unknown, and as such, could have come from a number of cultures in and around Egypt. Gharvari accepts that Cleopatra may not have been Black, but wanted to make a show that could explore that possibility. She continues…

"So, was Cleopatra Black? We don’t know for sure, but we can be certain she wasn’t white like Elizabeth Taylor. We need to have a conversation with ourselves about our colorism, and the internalized white supremacy that Hollywood has indoctrinated us with."

Cleopatra was Greek.  Just because Egypt is on the continent of Africa doesn’t mean she was black.  No more than Elon Musk is black.

Egyptian government criticizes Netflix's BLACKWASHED Cleopatra: "Blatant historical misconception"

The Egyptian government said Netflix's "Queen Cleopatra" documentary is a "falsification of Egyptian history and blatant historical misconception," criticizing the film's portrayal of the queen as black....Netflix disabled the YouTube comments on the trailer..."The film is classified as a documentary and not a drama, the order that the owners of its industry have to investigate accuracy and refer to historical and scientific facts in order to ensure that the history and civilizations of peoples is not falsified," said Dr. Mustafa Waziri, Secretary-General of the Supreme Council of Archeology.....

....Dr. Nasser Mekkawy, head of the Egyptian Department of Archeology at Cairo University also said Cleopatra would have been light-skinned due to her Macedonian-Greek heritage....Zahi Hawass, Cairo's former antiquities minister, said the documentary is "completely fake."...."Cleopatra was Greek, meaning that she was light-skinned, not black," Hawass said. "Netflix is trying to provoke confusion by spreading false and deceptive facts that the origin of the Egyptian civilization is black...Identifying Queen Cleopatra as black for fulfilling modern African American fantasies is pure theft of egyptian history and yet an attempt to rewrite history's greats......"

Executive Producer Jada Pinkett Smith said she wanted Cleopatra played by a black woman because "we don't often get to see or hear stories about black queens."....Director Tina Gharavi said she realized it would be a "political act ... to see Cleopatra portrayed by a black actress."....."Why shouldn't Cleopatra be a melanated sister? And why do some people need Cleopatra to be white?" Gharavi said. "Her proximity to whiteness seems to give her value, and for some Egyptians it seems to really matter.....We need to have a conversation with ourselves about our colorism, and the internalized white supremacy that Hollywood has indoctrinated us with....."

Queen Cleopatra review: Controversial Netflix documentary deserves to be buried in a crypt

.....,Netflix’s Queen Cleopatra tells the legendary monarch’s tale with all the dramatic heft of a Wikipedia article. But even on Wikipedia, you always have the option to click on an interesting hyperlink and dive down an endless rabbit hole. Queen Cleopatra, however, chains you to your seat and forces you to watch limp dramatic recreations interspersed with overly effusive commentary for four episodes....

Each episode begins with a voiceover from executive producer Jada Pinkett Smith, in which she invariably speaks about how brilliant Cleopatra was, in a grave tone that one would reserve for bad news. Each episode also features numerous scholars who are no doubt highly qualified to be commenting on Cleopatra’s life and reign, but the show rarely uses them cleverly. Instead, it’s almost as if the filmmakers made each scholar recount Cleopatra’s entire life story on camera one by one, and then intercut the interviews in a way that makes it seem as if they’re struggling to identify who she was and what she represents.....Even after watching....you don’t quite get an idea of who Cleopatra was as a person. When she isn’t being presented as a scheming seductress who would often cross moral boundaries to get what she wanted, she’s projected, funnily enough, as a Beyonce-like figure. The soundtrack includes trip-hop and rap, a stylistic choice clearly inspired by Black Panther.

But the show doesn’t have a soul. And every story needs one, even thinly produced Netflix docudramas about Cleopatra that don’t feature a single archive photograph of the palaces in which she lived, or of her many sculptures, or even paintings of her most famous conquests — both geographical and romantic. All of this would no doubt have highlighted just how fluid her image was, constantly being altered depending on who was holding the brush or the chisel..... But even the scholars assembled by Netflix don’t seem to have a firm idea about what she looked like....

‘Bridgerton’ Star Breaks Silence After Facing Backlash For Saying During Coronation Balcony Was ‘Terribly White’

....“Bridgerton” star Adjoa Andoh broke her silence after she faced some backlash for saying during live coverage of King Charles III’s coronation that the Buckingham Palace balcony was “terribly white.”....During the 60-year-old British actress’ appearance on Saturday on an ITV panel the “Invictus” star said “We have gone from the rich diversity of the Abbey to a terribly white balcony. I am very struck by that.” The image was that of the King, Queen Camilla and other members of the royal family.....“I am also looking at those younger generations and thinking: ‘What are the nuances that they will inhabit as they grow?”

The video surfaced on Twitter, with people blasting the actress for making “racist” comments. “Why is it ok to dismiss a white family for being white?” one person wrote. Another added, “Adjoa Andoh is a [racist], and obviously very proud of it. Why is [BBC] promoting racism?” Another person tweeted, “How has Adjoa Andoh got away with that, if it was the other way round it would be deemed racist and all hell would let loose! [bbc] [RoyalFamily].” While another wrote, “How can she get away with that? Anyone of white color would have to make a public apology. Ridiculous, just shows she’s a racist though.”

After the star faced some criticism, she went on the BBC and responded to the backlash, noting some people were upset with her......“I think I upset a few people yesterday I was talking about the day and how marvelous it was and then looking at the balcony at the end,” Andoh said. “‘And I suddenly went ‘ooh, it’s so white’ – because the day had been so so mixed. I didn’t mean to upset anybody, I just was…”...A BBC Radio 4 presenter Paddy O’Connell then interupted the actress and told her she didn’t have anything to apologize for and said “You haven’t upset anyone.”

And now the British Broadcasting Company is in trouble, with people saying this one broadcaster had no right to say she hadn’t upset anyone with her comments, the Daily Mail noted.....“Bridgerton star Adjoa Andoh has just tried to back track on [bbcradio4], about her comment that the Buckingham Palace balcony was ‘terribly white,'” one person tweeted. “And then the presenter Paddy O’Connell tells her that she’s got nothing to apologize for. Please don’t speak for me!”

Netflix’s ‘Queen Cleopatra’ Appears To Have The Worst Audience Score In TV History

.....However, the show has done something I didn’t think was even possible. It has not just the lowest audience score in Netflix history, it has essentially the lowest audience score possible on Rotten Tomatoes, a 1%. Not a 10%, a 1%. (Update: It just ticked up to 2%. Still an unprecedented low)....There aren’t many critic reviews in, but those are low as well, with the show sitting at a 13%. But those audience scores? I’ve never seen anything like this. Not with bad shows. Not with politically controversial shows prone to review bombing. Never this bad, not in Netflix history. Honesty, I think not even in TV history, at least with this many reviews in (over a thousand).

..... Fans usually rate things higher than critics, even bad shows, and the point being, a 1% audience score seems borderline mathematically impossible, even with the controversy the film has attracted.....The creator of the series, Tina Gharvi, has defended the casting choice: “Why shouldn’t Cleopatra be a melanated sister? And why do some people need Cleopatra to be white? Her proximity to whiteness seems to give her value, and for some Egyptians it seems to really matter. After much hand-wringing and countless auditions, we found in Adele James an actor who could convey not only Cleopatra’s beauty, but also her strength. Did Black Vikings Ever Exist?

Were there ever black Vikings?

..... there is no historical evidence of a first generation African choosing to join the Vikings, it is well established that the Vikings encountered Africans....It’s important to keep in mind the assertion that being a Viking was more to do with embracing a way of life than it was about descending from the same ancestral line. The work “viking” is derived from the Scandinavian word for “pirate,” and pirates around the world are known to be more of a chosen tribe than a kinship group....Being a Viking, or at least being a Scandinavian who engaged in conquest and domination, also appears to have been a part time job. Evidence points to the fact that many Vikings spent a significant portion of the year farming and creating family ties. They seem to have ventured out to pillage and plunder only from time to time, and did not live a year-round pirate existence.

Who was the first black Viking?

There is no historical account of the “first” Black Viking. But it is widely known that in the time of the Vikings, other cultures were also traveling and exploring. Historians believe that many dark-skinned people came to Scandinavia voluntarily, and assimilated into the culture willingly. Some of those people may have chosen the Viking lifestyle.

What skin color were Vikings?

While most Vikings are believed to have had fair, peach-toned skin and light hair, there may also have been Vikings with darker skin. It’s important to understand that when Vikings traveled to distant lands, they often brought back people from those cultures....When it comes to references about “Black” Vikings, there’s a lack of clarity. For example, it’s assumed that some writings which focused on “Black” Vikings are referring to hair color instead of skin color.

Nick Cannon Blasts Jada Pinkett Smith’s ‘Red Table Talk’ as ‘Toxic’

....Nick Cannon is not holding back his thoughts on Red Table Talk, Jada Pinkett Smith‘s Facebook Watch talk show which was recently canceled...Pinkett Smith, who hosted the show with her daughter, Willow Smith, and her mother, Adrienne Banfield-Norris, confirmed the cancellation on Friday (April 28) in an Instagram statement...

....The Masked Singer host reacted to the news on his radio show, The Daily Cannon, saying, “Good… If there was no Red Table Talk, then he wouldn’t have slapped the s*** out of Chris Rock,” referring to the infamous moment from the 2022 Oscars where Will Smith slapped Rock for making a joke about his wife, Pinkett Smith....Cannon went on to call the show “that toxic table,” stating, “Too much honesty can get your ass slapped in the face.”

....The All That alum took aim at the Smiths for using the show to air their dirty laundry. “That was royalty, Will and Jada,” he said. “Then they brought it to the table. I don’t want to know all this s*** about y’all… I just want to mind my black own business. I don’t want to be up in everybody else’s kitchen. Keep that s*** to y’all selves.”

.....Red Table Talk was described as “a forum where the perspectives of three different generations on a wide variety of topics are shared” and is perhaps best known for the intimate conversation where Jada and Will discussed their marriage and Pinkett Smith’s relationship with R&B singer August Alsina, which she referred to as “an entanglement.”

"It makes no sense to me, because you're progressive in one way and then you're still making that f**king backward story of seven dwarfs living in a cave," Dinklage said on the comedian Marc Maron's "WTF" podcast this week.

"I know," Dinklage responded. "There's a lot of hypocrisy going on, I've gotta say, from being somebody who's a little bit unique. It's a front-row seat to some —"

"Really? Like what?" Maron asked. "What do you see?"

"Well, you know, it's really progressive to cast a — literally no offense to anybody, but I was a little taken aback by, they were very proud to cast a Latino actress as Snow White," Dinklage said, "but you're still telling the story of 'Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs.' Take a step back and look at what you're doing there....It makes no sense to me, because you're progressive in one way and then you're still making that f**king backward story of seven dwarfs living in a cave. Resurfaced video of 'Snow White' actress sparks controversy over changes in Disney remake: ‘No longer 1937'

.....A recently surfaced video of Rachel Zegler, who plays the titular character in the upcoming live-action remake of "Snow White," has sparked controversy after the actress revealed how the new Disney film would differ from the 1937 animated classic. In the 2022 D23 Expo Variety interview clip, Zegler and "Wonder Woman" actress Gal Gadot discussed how the reimagining of Snow White would shift the Disney princess's values, dreams and agency in the story. When asked how the new Snow White would bring a "modern edge" to the famous fable, Zegler laughed and said, "I just mean that it's no longer 1937." Gadot, who will play the Evil Queen in the movie, interjected and divulged that Prince Ferdinand would not save Snow White....."She's not going to be saved by the prince and she's not going to be dreaming about true love," Zegler noted. "She's dreaming about becoming the leader she knows she can be and the leader that her late father told her that she could be if she was fearless, fair, brave and true....."

.....Some online have been critical of Zegler's casting in the film after leaked photos surfaced online of her in costume. The online images also confirmed that the film would not have the seven dwarves who would instead be called "magical creatures."....Disney said it changed the dwarfs to "avoid reinforcing stereotypes from the original animated film" in a statement to Hollywood Reporter. "We are taking a different approach with these seven characters and have been consulting with members of the dwarfism community.".....On Friday, Zegler responded to criticism about the casting and her role in the film, writing, "Extremely appreciative of the love I feel from those defending me online, but please don't tag me in the nonsensical discourse about my casting. I really, truly, do not want to see it."....Zegler has faced criticism online since her casting was announced in 2021. Some social media users questioned why the biracial actress of Colombian and Polish descent played a character known for having skin "as white as snow....."

"Black people, we are the ultimate outsider": Justin Simien on "radical" take on "Haunted Mansion"

....."It actually is extremely radical to see Black people, people of color and white people — and people who just look like Americans — facing these supernatural situations and coming together to get through them," Simien shared with me on "Salon Talks. "That is actually still a very radical image for cinema.".....Simien, the director behind "Bad Hair" and the critically acclaimed film and Netflix television series "Dear White People," says that including lots of New Orleans culture, Black culture and a Black lead was part of his initial pitch to Disney. The film, written by Katie Dippold, has a star-studded cast including LaKeith Stanfield, Tiffany Haddish, Owen Wilson, Jared Leto, Danny DeVito, Rosario Dawson and Jamie Lee Curtis, to name a few...

..."Black people, we are the ultimate outsider. We are the ultimate sort of fringe character in American life, and we have to create our own spaces.....These are the kinds of things that you don't really put out on the poster or talk about in all the press interviews, but these are the reasons why I make this movie. Why I make movies like this is because it actually is extremely radical to see Black people, people of color and white people— and people who just look like Americans—facing these supernatural situations and coming together to get through them. That is actually still a very radical image for cinema. And that speaks far more to how cinema has let us all down than it does about the movie being bold or something. It shouldn't be that radical...."

"Others, however, assert that presenting Cleopatra as a black queen could contribute to a more inclusive and diverse representation of historical figures in film and television."  what they mean to say is "it does not matter what color someone is historically as long as we can push the DEI angle we really do not care about accurate representation."

There is literally no chance she was black.  She was not white either. Macedonians have olive toned skin. This is not some sort of shock. They did not just disappear like the lost colony of Roanoke. Macedonia is still there. It's people are still there. You can see what they look like and what they have looked like historically.

Remember. It is cultural appropriation if any race other than blacks do this. If they do it it's all in the name of DEI and you are racist for questioning anything.

Rachel Zegler Is Officially Disney’s New Brie Larson

...It’s official. Rachel Zegler is Disney’s new Brie Larson – but not for the reasons you think. Since being cast as Snow White in the upcoming live-action remake of Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs (1937), Rachel Zegler has received endless flack from Disney fans and non-fans alike.....the latest being that Zegler is allegedly “ungrateful” for playing such an iconic character and doesn’t understand the lore of Snow White. .....These accusations stem from two videos. One is a resurfaced interview from 2022 in which Zegler argues that her version of Snow White won’t be “saved” by the prince like the 1937 version. “It’s no longer 1937,” she said. “We absolutely wrote a Snow White that is not gonna be saved by the prince. And she’s not going to be dreaming about true love. She’s dreaming about becoming the leader she knows she can be.....”

....The second is a video from the frontlines of the ongoing SAG-AFTRA strikes where Zegler states, “If I’m going to stand there for 18 hours in a dress of an iconic Disney princess, I deserve to be paid for every hour that it is streamed online.”....Twitter and TikTok have since been overrun with comments and videos accusing Zegler of hating the character she’s set to play in next year’s live-action reboo....as well as dissecting the “pseudofeminism” .......this isn’t the first time the Disney community has zeroed in on an actress and accused them of being rude or ungrateful – Brie Larson has received similar treatment from the moment she joined the Marvel Cinematic Universe as Carol Danvers (AKA Captain Marvel)....
