Hawkeye21 2,378 Posted August 7, 2023 I cheered for them but I also laughed when they lost. This was not a likeable team this time. I'm glad to see that Rapinoe is done, she was absolutely terrible this World Cup. I hope the team becomes more likeable so the whole country can get behind them.
Mike Honcho 5,072 Posted August 7, 2023 I've spent more time reading this thread than I have watching women's soccer in my lifetime.

That was the exact problem... likeability. When they won awhile back they were likable, and then they started trying to force things like political agendas, or trying to develop their brand, or just being too c0cky. The more we got to know them, the more we found out they just weren't very likable people. The mob is fickle.

Blue Horseshoe 348 Posted August 8, 2023 1 minute ago, edjr said: She hates America. She missed on porpose. By infusing so much toxicity into the sport, it makes potential sponsors back out or stay away. Which removes many pathways to fund more youth soccer programs. Because IMHO that should be part of the goal here. Get kids interested in your sport, get them playing, get them outside and off of that damn IPhone and run around, get fresh air and sunshine, make new friends, be a part of a community, learn things like team work and confidence. Since Rapinoe has to make it all about her, she creates limits on those pathways for kids coming up who might love soccer if they had more opportunities for it. So she can have whatever personal politics she wants, but she also has to weigh out the cost of every player in her sport being aligned with her, fair or not, and limiting their value as true ambassadors of the entire sport. Nothing she is doing helps women's soccer or soccer for girls overall.

iam90sbaby 2,468 Posted August 8, 2023 I'd rather take bronze in a handful of male competitions than to sweep the women's competitions with gold, who fkn cares. Woman sports only matter when they can be sexualized, no one cares about a bunch of ugly bull dykes who are actually good at the sport they play.

Mark Davis 338 Posted August 8, 2023 The bottom line is we’ve had more equality and women’s rights in sports than anywhere in the world. The very reason our women have been dominant is women here had advantages in training and development where other countries didn’t afford their women those opportunities. As time has gone on, some countries have taken women’s sports more seriously. Look at the results of the younger teams in the world tournaments. The days of the US women’s team being dominant are over.

Haven't more people typically watched the US women compared to the US men? I'm sure the numbers were really bad this year since the women played in the middle of the night. The women have been much more successful and I think more people enjoyed watching them over the years. That's why I think they deserved more money.

Now, if we were talking about the WNBA I would be in total agreement that they don't deserve equal pay.
