New York judge finds Donald Trump liable for fraud

I didn’t call anyone nuts.  It’s all laid out here, no edits. Everything I talked about here was from articles available to everyone. Nothing made up.

You said you didn't know, denied saying it, then HT showed the post where you said it.  Then you said he had issues.  That's essentially calling someone nuts.  He doesn't have issues; you have issues.  Now you're here saying "I didn't make it up".  No one accused you of making things up in the first place.  Come back when you're not on the rag.  Your thought processes may be a bit clearer.

For those who didn’t read everything, these are my quotes on the value of Mar A Lago. I’m pretty sure all the comments you’re mentioning now came after these quotes.

 “I
don't know.  I do know that a professional assessor valued it far less than what Trump valued it at for some reason.”

“I'm sure it's worth much more than $18 million.  I don't know where the judge came up with the number.”

“If Trump actually said this as a disclaimer then I think he basically admitted that it was overvalued.”

“The Judge's valuation of $18m is pure BS.  It's more realistically valued at $300m or a little more.  Eric Trump says it's worth well over a billion, seems a bit much.  Trump valued it at $612m which is about double of what it's most likely worth.”

This is where we are at in this country. Activist leftist DA’s and judges interfering in our federal system. I told you before this won’t stop with Trump. This is the playbook for every Republican.

Not exactly.  During the 90's and early 2000's I was immersed into the area.....and let me tell you, banks.....real estate agents....sellers....all of them are actively overstating the value of real estate, across the board and emphatically....its part and parcel of the market....

Trail starts soon on the remaining issues.

Former President Donald Trump has arrived at a New York City court today for the first day of the civil fraud trial against him, his eldest sons, their companies and Trump Organization executives.

Last week, a state Supreme Court judge found Trump and his co-defendants liable for fraud for grossly inflating asset valuations on financial statements, a finding that could spell the end of Trump’s business career in his former home state. The trial will determine the amount of damages owed.

The former president, his adult children, and his closest business advisers are listed as potential witnesses.

Increased security has been put in place ahead of the trial, the New York State Unified Court System said. The proceedings are expected to last through December.

I'm all for prosecuting political rivals for "reasons".  Can't wait until the pendulum swings towards the right once again.

I'm sure all of our lefty brethren will be perfectly fine with it too.  amiright?

Was he though?

Of course not.  Any educated adult knows this.

Quote

From the 1980s until he was elected president in 2016, Donald John Trump Sr. and his businesses were involved in over 4,000 legal cases in U.S. federal and state courts, including battles with casino patrons, million-dollar real estate lawsuits, personal defamation lawsuits, and over 100 business tax disputes.[1] He has also been accused of sexual harassment and sexual assault,[2][3] with one accusation resulting in Trump being held civilly liable.[4]

In 2015, his lawyer Alan Garten called this "a natural part of doing business" in the United States.[5][6] While litigation is indeed common in the real estate industry,[5] Trump has been involved in more legal cases than his fellow magnates Edward J. DeBartolo Jr., Donald Bren, Stephen M. Ross, Sam Zell, and Larry Silverstein combined.[7]

The judge in the case has already ruled on one of the claims – persistent and repeated fraud – finding Trump, his adult sons, their businesses and executives liable for fraud.

Engoron will now decide on the six other claims:

  • Falsifying business records
  • Conspiracy to falsify business records
  • Issuing false financial statements
  • Conspiracy to falsify false financial statements
  • Insurance fraud
  • Conspiracy to commit insurance fraud

The trial was expected to take up to three months but it will likely be shorter now that the fraud claim has already been settled.

Banks do not blindly take a borrower's appraisal value on assets.   They do their own due diligence.  so I get a loan based on the value of my house & I say it's worth 10 million dollars & they just give me a loan on my word.  that is not the way it works at all.  Banks are required to do their own due diligence, plain & simple.  Also in any appraisal provided by the borrower ALWAYS contains words to the effect of no liability is assumed with said proposed appraisal by the borrower.  this is a 100% prosecution based on politics.  this is the kind of crap that should not happen to anyone.

No person, company, bank, financial institution brought up these charges or claims.  They were brought up by the District Attorney who ran her campaign on the premise to “Get Trump”.

Normally, at least in America, a crime is committed or a person / company is defrauded and sued and then the Justice system figures out guilt or innocence.  In this case there was no “victim”. The DA had her eyes laser focused on a citizen and was going to “find” a crime.  That is backwards and should concern all Americans.

Ah yes the famous "No caught me committing crimes, so it's not illegal" defense.

Let's see how well that works out for him.

And yet the judge already ruled that argument invalid when making his judgement. So until I hear otherwise(his ruling overruled on appeal), I'm going to side with the judge on his interpretation of the law over the armchair lawyers at the GC.

As I mentioned earlier I’m not happy with this particular trial. I’m not going to defend Trump- it looks like he did what he’s being accused of and it’s against the law. But unless the state is willing to go after all of the big time developers who pull this sort of nonsense (and as I previously mentioned, I believe the practice of overvaluing properties is prevalent in the industry) then this does strike me as a selective prosecution. And that’s unfair, even to Mr. Trump.

And it’s also interesting that @JustinCharge, while claiming to be a thoughtful independent conservative, is rather indistinguishable from a propagandist for Putin

I'd like to see them go after all politicians.  We need to start over and get quality people in those posistions.

that is fine.  regardless of the obviously biased judge, prosecutor & I assume the subsequent guilty verdict this will get tossed on appeal.  I'm not an attorney but have dealt with them, banks & real estate for many years.  you know the old saying.  I can prosecute a ham sandwich & this is exactly what is happening.  I also assume that the prosecutor knows it won't survive an appeal, but she ran on getting Trump so you got that.

I won't speak for the other prosecutions but this one does not pass the smell test & will be a legal massive fail.
