Does Dallas have to make the Conference Championship for McCrappy to keep his job?

Not sure why you are upset...stays/goes, it's not like Jerry wouldn't screw up the next hiring.

The players clamoring for MM because he lets family come to spme practices probably went into this decision.   If a majority of players like the coach, its tough to fire him.  MM is whatever, but I don't think just totally not showing up is all on him.  He has an overrated QB and it happened to strike midnight.

I've actually been somewhat impressed with MM, in that he updated his schemes and has adapted to the changing NFL.  The last 3 years in Green Bay was like watching him try to disprove the definition of insanity...and if he just did the same thing one more time, it was going to work.

IMO, he's a pretty consistently good, but not great coach.  He'll need to catch a little lighting in a bottle to win another one. Not sure what that entails, but he gives them a chance.

Everyone in the NFC East but the redskins have declining quarterbacks with big cap hits.

The 2024 season will be the final of a four-year, $160 million deal, averaging $40 million per year, Prescott signed in March 2021. At the time, that deal made him the NFL's second-highest-paid player despite the fact that he was recovering from a gruesome right ankle injury that sidelined him five games into the 2020 season. Prescott is scheduled to make $34 million in 2024 on a $59.455 million salary cap number thanks to Dallas restructuring his contract for cap purposes on three different occasions since he signed. The $34 million consists of an unsecured $29 million base salary and a $5 million fifth day of the league year roster bonus due on March 17.

Prescott still has leverage in any contract extension talks despite his performance against the Packers. His $59.455 million is the NFL's second-highest 2024 cap number behind Browns quarterback Deshaun Watson's $63.977 million. Prescott has a no-trade clause in his contract. He also has a provision preventing Dallas from designating him as a franchise or transition player in 2025 should he play out his contract.

The Cowboys will surely use Prescott's playoff shortcomings against him in contract discussions. Prescott hasn't had a deep playoff run in his eight years under center. The last time the Cowboys advanced beyond the divisional playoffs was during the 1995 season. Prescott's 2-5 postseason record is tied for the worst in NFL history with Billy Kilmer and Alex Smith for any quarterback having at least five playoff starts. In the seven playoff games, Prescott has completed 64.5% of his passes (178 of 276 attempts) for 1,962 yards with 14 touchdowns and seven interceptions to post a 91.8 passer rating.

Those 2 wins represent 40% of the Cowboys playoff wins since they last one the SB!

Always a risk to change coaches after highly disappointing losses. The Chargers have never been the same since they fired Schottenheimer. That was always the knock on him- that he couldn't win in the playoffs. But, after he left, the team couldn't even make the playoffs.

The Cowboys played like a team under enormous pressure. They played tight and the Packers clobbered them. They need to find a way to stay loose next year when the postseason rolls around or they'll get boat raced again. I think McCarthy is a good coach, but he's got to figure that out. What's hard to believe is that Quinn made the defensive calls he made vs. Green Bay. That was the great oddity of the game itself.

They didn't go to the Conference Championship the year after firing Marty?

The chargers never being the same again would be a good thing.

Good call. Yes. I forgot about that because they had such a poor regular season that year compared to the year before. I guess I was thinking more about Schottenheimer in Kansas City than San Diego. There, the dry spell was pretty severe after he left.

The Patriots had no business beating them when they went 14 and 2. I know Rivers had a bum knee.
