It was odd seeing Ghost nominated for an Iron Maiden song.  They did a good cover, but it still seems wrong.

Rock has been flushed down the toilet. I watched the show, and unless I was out of the room, I didn't see any of the rock/metal/alternative/etc. winners get shown getting their awards.

The best rock album of the year was the new Rolling Stones album, which is a classic.

But it was good to see Billy Joel back up there.

Just looking at the above post which shows that Paramore won best "rock" album over Metallica, Foo Fighters, GVF, QOTSA says all you need to know about the Grammys.

This is correct. They just don't know what to do with metal. I don't like Ghost, but they are a good worthy band, why have their nod be a cover. There are some good interesting songs on that Paramore album, but its not a rock album. It would be nice if there were a few additional categories, like I saw that there is a melodic rap category. How about an extreme metal category?

Agreed that if rap can have multiple categories then it would make sense for something similar for metal.  Need a progressive metal category fo sho! 

Ghost did win a Grammy several years ago for their song Cirice.

Edit: I've always felt like BÖC was a reasonable comparison for Ghost.

JHC, we've really hit rock bottom as a society.  Everything is dumbed and watered down to the point that we think Paramore is rock and roll.

What would you call it? Don't misinterpret me, I think Paramore suuuucks, and highly doubt they deserve the award. But they are a rock band.

I'm a product of the 80's - the Greatest Musical Decade of All Time.  Well the late 60's and 70's weren't bad either.

So like Queensryche, Van halen, Ratt, Poison, Iron Maiden, Metallica.  When Rock was rock and the bands used hairspray and makeup.  Wait a minute...

We come from the same era, and I was a huge fan of all those, except maybe Ratt. Still love Maiden and VH. Believe it or not, there are some great newer rock bands out there. You just gotta go looking for them. Or subscribe to Spotify, and they'll be delivered directly to your ears with no effort on your part.
