I am hesitant to take any action at this time due to what happened with Vuduchile a couple years ago. 

I got the vague impression from prior instances that as a group we didn't sweat the timer on the draft too much so I didn't react yesterday.  Probably an error on my part, So I apologize for that.  I have Taco's contact info so I will text him today and let him know it is his draft pick.

And Devilwoman, I am in total agreement with your stance on the rules.  But the last time I put my foot down we lost an owner over it and the league lost me as a commissioner for a couple years.  That is why I am wearing the kiddie gloves you see me sporting nowadays.  I have let slide some other stuff like roster cutdowns and paying of fees, so cant really pick and choose what I go hardline on.

my thoughts are…what seems most likely is he doesn’t know about it, picking by proxy is dumb & I’d rather error towards not being in a rush. I even think there was a time we gave 24 hours per pick. Feels like we’ve always been done within a few days once we got going.

We should make sure all owners are aware the draft is starting, before the draft starts.

I had no idea the draft was going to start, i expected you to wait for all payments and the start date of the draft to be pushed back to be honest.  I would have sent out more trade offers.

 

I suggest we give @taco breath enough time to login to the site, take care of everything, and then make his own draft pick. We are not in a rush at this point in the season.

While I would be fine with this essentially, we need to put something in the constitution regarding leeway.  If not, then we're just making sh!t up as we go.

1. Draft Order will be the inverse of the previous season's Post-Season Standings (Last place picks 1st and vice versa).

2. The annual rookie draft will be a standard non-snaking draft. The team that picked 1st in round 1, will pick 1st in round 2, 3, so on and so forth.

3. The annual draft will be scheduled just prior to the start of the first pre-season game. League members will agree on a suitable date for all, on a year by year basis.

4. The draft will be a slow draft, taking place on the MFL DNDL league site. The picks will also be displayed in a thread on the FFToday DNDL league forum. The commissioner will use this information to assist league members with MFL access issues at work.

• 8 hour time limit for picks
• 8-6 EST Monday-Friday
• No time limit on weekends or evenings

5. Trading is permitted throughout the course of the draft. The same rules apply, in regards to tradable assets.

6. If a team does not make a pick within the 8 hour time limit, his pick will be skipped. He will be able to make up his pick when he returns or at the end of the draft. All skipped picks will expire if not made within 24 hours of the draft completion. No further compensation will be awarded.

7. Players dropped during the draft are immediately available for draft selection.

 

This entire situation is ridiculous!!!  It's been over 24 hours.  A majority of owners knew about the draft, and if you didn't know...wouldn't you get online and find out?  It is that time of year...

I have sent Taco 2 texts and left a voice message with him today.  No reply.  I have reached out to a friend of his (who has not heard from Taco in a while) and he will try and get a hold of him and tell him to check in.

We have had some different opinions from league owners on how to deal with this, so how I choose to proceed will not agree with everyone.  Since I get paid the big bucks to be commissioner, I decide to give him a day or two before any actions are taken.  At least give his friend a chance to hunt him down or time for Taco to respond (who knows, his phone might be dead or, god forbid, something happened to him).

My reasoning:  This is going to end either two ways, he shows or he doesn't.  If he shows, we can take punitive action.  If he doesn't show, we will have to find a new owner to replace him.  Replacing him will be a lot easier if we have not skipped all their draft picks this year. And without a replacement, there is no league.

Now, being proactive, anyone have a friend who would be interested in taking over his team if he is a no show?

No word on the Taco Breath front.  Considering his lengthy absence before we finally hunted him down to see if he was gonna play this year, and his subsequent month long absence, I have little hope that he will show.

I suggest we give Taco the rest of today.  If he does not show, we actively search for a replacement.  Hopefully one of you have a friend that would be interested in playing.

I have reached out to a couple of people this morning that might be interested in taking over a new team.  They are not FFT or FBG people though, hope that is ok.  Dynasty veterans though.

 

My feeling on all this is that replacing him is for the best.  I like the idea of putting better guardrails up in the future.  I understand that life happens, but its unfair to the rest of the league to have an owner that checked out.  Of course we have enough time before the season starts, but we all probably have other leagues and other things to do as well.  But it really means, if they can't even show up to draft, that we have a team that is probably not going to be engaged in trade talks, probably more likely to not set a lineup, etc.  For me a big part of the enjoyment of dynasty is engaged owners throughout the year, including the offseason.  If Taco has some life things going on, I wish him the best.

 

In a dynasty league I run, we have an "ADP -5" rule for missing a pick.  Its less punitive than missing a pick entirely but is still not good for the team missing the pick.  We sort the available players by ADP and then take the 5th one down, regardless of positional need or anything else.  Just a thought to incorporate going forward.

 

 @devilwoman - I also hope you change your mind over the course of the season.  I have enjoyed having you in the league, we have had some good trade discussions and back and forths and overall I think you have been a great addition to the league. 

 

@Gypsybrat - I think you are doing an awesome job man.  Its a tough and thankless position alot of the time.  I appreciate you and I appreciate the way you handle things.  This is not your fault, this is an owner that went AWOL.  I thought you communicated very clearly throughout the process.  I hope this doesn't sour you on being the commish.

Yeah this is the other end of essentially waiving the rules for someone without any real communication (ie an actual response and good excuse).  It's not fair to the rest of us.  That being said I think we've been more than patient to a guy everyone has been messaging and texting for days now.

Sorry I have not posted sooner, couldn't log into FFT from work.

So, obviously Taco is back from the dead!!!  

It is apparent that he did not know the draft date, and that is a communication error on MY PART. I did a such a piss poor job confirming the draft date in the other thread that not only Taco, but MTSkibum was unsure of the draft date. 

Going forward, we will implement Kutulu's idea about set dates (and corresponding punitive actions) for checking in/league fees, roster management, and the draft so this does not happen again.  I will make another thread sometime soon and we can toss it around.

I understand the situation sucked, and I am sorry for that.  I feel sick to my stomach thinking that I caused this, and more specifically, the loss of a good owner in Devilwoman.
