I'm OK with this assessment I guess.  Rusty used to post hilarious stories about idiots calling the newsroom, writing checks for pizza, and the trials of hurricanes that his Buttmont, TX.  Gutter I concede was always an ass, but he was also funny.  He had some great aliases, including Mrs. Voltaire, which is one of my all-time favorites.  :D

Like Volty said, they are part of the fabric of this place.  You can't write the history of FFT without them.  :dunno:

I’ve been trying to tell you guys, most of the polls have been noise- then Silver confirmed it. The Iowa Seltzer poll is the canary in coal mine. If Trump manages to hold Iowa, it’s going to be by the lowest numbers he’s ever gotten. That means a comfortable win in the electoral college for Harris. If that poll is right and Harris takes Iowa, it’s gonna be a historic night on Tuesday. Like super+ tampon big.

Came across this article linked on another website I go to. Apparently AOC went on her Instagram and asked people "If you voted for Trump & Me or Trump & Dem in your area- can you tell me why?"

Some of the responses are interesting. A lot of them boil down to- people think Dems are better at local levels and less so on a national level. Someone hilariously said "I wanted change, but I also wanted to put brakes on him..."

I'll give her this- I don't particularly care for AOC but she has kind of risen above a lot of the rest of the trash group she associated with and you can see how she at least will try to understand the way people think. She still will try to hammer her views in at times but of all of them she seems to be the one most likely to reach across the aisle if need be....

Dems are worse at local levels because the crap that they pull isn't as widely known as what the president does.

I underestimated the average voter.  I assumed most people were monkeys that could only pull a blue or red lever.  A larger swath of people than I imagined apparently can think critically to some degree.  That's hopeful.

I think The Party underestimated the voters in the same manner judging by by reactions.

So one perhaps silver lining the Democrats could take from this election is this:

In the 7 battleground states there were 5 senate races- 4 of them were won by Democrats with the one in PA won by a guy who is more deep state than anything and had to try twice to gain Trump's love:

In Nevada- Trump had 734,609 votes to Kamala's 688,981....Sam Brown lost the Senate getting 663K votes to Jacky Rosen's 685K-

In Arizona- Trump had 1.7M to Kamala's 1.5M...Kari Lake lost getting 1.5M to Gallego's 1.6M

In Wisconsin- Trump had 1.7M to Kamala's 1.66M...Eric Hovde lost getting 1.64M to Baldwin's 1.67M

In Michigan- Trump had 2.8M to Kamala's 2.72 M...Mike ROgers lost with 2.69M to Slotkin's 2.70M

In PA- Trump had 3.51M to Kamala's 3.37...McCormick won with 3.37M to Casey's 3.36M

So in every race- the GOP senator candidate trailed Trump's voting total by varying numbers. In 3 of the 5 races the Democrat candidate was ahead of Kamala. It feels like another example of- people like Trump doing Trump stuff and not other people doing Trump stuff. I do think Republicans need to be careful about where they go because there is a pathway in which the party falls apart to some degree at the top once Trump is gone. A lot of it will depend on how much confidence people will have in Vance after these 4 years

This is not a completely out of bound analysis.  Though I might point out, this was not the take away you should be finding.  Moreover, the insistence for so many leftists to assigned blame everywhere else but self, is not going to turn around the blight pervading liberalism which compelled so many to turn away.

I've been very clear across the board saying they need to focus back on kitchen table issues. But I'm also pointing out there are things to build on and that they may not be quite as far gone from a counting stance as they appear at first glance.

And I concur with your assessment.  It is not a tact I think I would take, but I see the reason for it.

I think we need to be patient and let the kids lash out at each other for a while.

It appears to be a mix of anger but also plenty of people attempting to protect their situation within the political machine.   We may have hear them bicker for a few months before they can get down to self reflection

That being said, I do not have alot of faith that liberals can self reflect unless their ideological masters dictate it to them,

I wouldn’t necessarily say that it’s that they don’t like other people doing Trump stuff, moreso that they don’t like people doing crazier stuff than Trump.

This was true in the other races in NC as well.  Trump won by 3%, but Mark Robinson got absolutely demolished although that was expected.  But Dems also won the one House race that was expected to be close, Lt Governor, Attorney General, Secretary of State and Superintendent of Schools.

I live in rural Minnesota, farm country.

You can travel for miles before you run into a town or even a home. Yesterday on my way to work, I saw a truck on the side of the road with it’s hazards on.

It was an older truck in pretty rough shape, the back window was also littered with Trump stickers.

I hesitated, but I stopped anyway. A older man in his late 60's / early 70's was struggling with a flat tire.

I started to help him, I didn't say much.

But he was chatty. He commented on my blaze orange hat on the dash of my truck.

He asked me if I was a deer or pheasant hunter.

He began talking about Trump, how great it's going to be "When we get rid of all these f*cking Mexicans"

He must have thought I was a Republican, most people are around here are.

He then said he was glad the "Bl^ck B*tch" didn't get elected,

And now we have to deport the "F*ggots" along with the Mexicans.

I had just broken free the last lug nut on his flat tire.

I asked him if he had a cell phone and if it was charged.

He said yes, and asked me why I was asking.

I didn't say anything.

I got back in my truck and left him there.

My kindness only goes so far.

This analysis, added to the results of the 2022 election (in which most of the “MAGA” candidates lost) suggests that the Trump movement is limited to Donald Trump. That without his personal charisma the MAGA movement will not continue. I don’t know if this is true but it’s an interesting thought.

What makes it look politically motivated?  You aren’t even allowed to place bets on the platform in America.  The fact that they accepted them from people not allowed to do so is more likely to be the reason for the raid, but I’ll wait for more details.
