I am a Browns fan and at this point i am ready to recover some much needed draft picks. Not having a 1st round pick for years is taking it's toll on this team, we could have had a much needed offensive lineman or two. i am also an amari Cooper owner, so it is a win, win. nobody 2,461 Posted October 1 For the record, no where in that article does it suggest the chiefs are pursuing Cooper. It's saying FanDuel had a tweet suggesting it. Then it says the cap numbers don't work, and then they wrap it up saying it might be a good idea. That's the new click bait strategy. Articles that are making a suggestion with headlines like, "Chiefs pursuing Cleveland Browns star wide receiver to replace Rashee Rice might be a good idea" you with the goal of people only reading the first part and clicking. I had one popup, "Chiefs land ideal Rashee Rice replacement in blockbuster projected trade" --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- "Credit the folks at FanDuel for thinking big in that respect. In a post on Twitter/X on Monday, the gambling site suggested a big swing at Browns star Amari Cooper, who is in the final year of a five-year, $100 million contract and could be eager to move on from a Browns team that could be headed toward a rebuild. As things stand, it could be the NFL accountants who say no to such a deal, because the Chiefs have a limited amount of cap space on hand, less than $5 million, per Over The Cap. If the Browns ate a big portion of Cooper's remaining money, that deal could work. But Cleveland might want to hold out for a better return from the Chiefs if they're taking on added money. Looking to cash out on Cooper--who has the chops to replace Rice--in a deal for Chiefs picks might be the sensible play for Cleveland. "

The cap numbers do indeed work out, as the Browns redid Coopers contract and he is only owed a tad over a millions dollars for anyone who would want to rent him. Last year of his current contract. LVSaint429 16 Posted October 1 So apparently the Browns have converted all but about $1.2 M of Cooper’s salary into a signing bonus. This makes him much more affordable if he’s traded. With the trade rumors of Adams also out there, we may be seeing some stuff happen over the next couple of weeks

The missing link in that article is the cap hit the Browns take NEXT year. Because of the voidable years in Cooper's contract, trading him now will result in a $22.5M cap hit in 2025. If the Browns need to eat more money THIS year to make it easier for the Chiefs on top of next years cap hit, I'm thinking that the asking price would be pretty high. Just absolutely no spine, heart, or balls. Personally, I'm not sure why the Chiefs would want to trade for him. Adams has 2 years left on his deal after this one that deal also comes with $35M+ for each of those 2 years. That's base pay that they have to cover. He'll be 33 next year. When Tyreek Hill was 27, they didn't want to give him $30M a year, now they're going to take on a lesser player for more money? Plus give a division rival a chance to get better? I don't see it. If they want to trade for a player, their best move is to trade for a guy who's a nice player on a crap team. Someone like Diontae Johnson comes to mind. He's a perfect 1 year rental who's only going to cost the remainder of $7M. He has nothing left on his deal after this year so neither the Chiefs or Panthers are locked into anything detrimental after this season. A 3rd round pick should be enough... maybe a 4th. TBayXXXVII 2,390 Posted October 1 46 minutes ago, gridiron whirlwinds said: Correct a cap hit of 22.5 million next year.....in exchange for a draft pick....teams do this all the time Not this way. Those types of deals are generally like with the Browns and Broncos a few years back with Osweiller. The Broncos gave the Browns Osweiller AND a pick to take Osweiller's contract. This isn't that. This is more like the Lions and Niners with the Goff and Stafford trade, but without the Browns getting anything back. The Lions gave up Stafford for Goff and 2 first round picks. Stafford wasn't worth a starting QB PLUS 2 first round picks. The reason the Lions got the second 1st round pick is because they took Goff and his contract so that the Rams didn't take the brunt of that. So, the Chiefs would have to part with a pick (or 2), just for Cooper (like the Rams giving up a first for Stafford). Then they'd have to trade a pick (or 2), to get the cap relief (like giving up the first for taking Goff's contract). Where this differs though is the Browns aren't getting a player back. So, there's a cost for that too. That's a lot to pay for a 1+ year rental. If I'm the Browns, I want at least 2 first round picks and probably a couple of 3rd's because the value of the Chief's first round picks aren't going to be that high, plus I'm eating $22M (that's a pretty big number), to help them win. Fock them, lol. They want the player and the cap relief.... pay up. That's why I don't think a deal for Cooper gets done. The buying price should be really high. Of course, I'm giving the Browns a lot of credit here. They might really be "that" stupid to just give him up for a 3rd or something like that. It's why I think a more reasonable solution is Diontae Johnson. He should be cheap to get and there's not long term cost down the road. Johnson is better than any receiver they had last year on the roster, so why pay a lot for Cooper?

I'm not sure they are giving up, but what they dont need is the #1 WR bashing their starting QB that they paid way too much for. I think this was a damage control move. They massively overpaid for a guy who had off field issues and when he got back to the team after his suspension... couldnt play anymore. either way, Watson wont be relieved of his duties until the GM is. Pretty sure the coach has no choice in the matter of whether to play him (or not)

Pretty sure the coach has no choice in the matter of whether to play him (or not) The thing is there is NO way to just hang it on the GM. Jimmy Haslem HAD to be a large part of this. The ONLY way for the browns to get out of this is to have a fire sale and be ok with the fact they are going to have to play practice squad players for 2 years till they get out from under watsons salary cap hit. I mean they were terrible for so long, might as well lean into it again and get some good picks for the next few years. If I were Haslem I would not fire the GM or the coach. Be up front and honest with them. Were tanking to get out of the mess I put you in. We are going to have to rebuild using the draft and the practice squads of all 32 teams. Watson throwing to practice squad players is going to be just as good as what he is doing now. Which is nothing.
