If you grew up in the 70's you remember....

I remember Canobie Lake in New Hampshire had a public pool. The disgusting sh1t that must have gone on in there.

We had no public pools where I lived, cause we had so many beaches.

We had no.public pools because everyone had a pool in their backyard.  Lots of beaches too but had to drive to them so not quite as convenient.

Will watch that video in it's entirety later but they kind of lost me when they said more parenting is REQUIRED now compared to then and that is why kids can't have freedom any more.  No.  We need more 70's parenting.  What is considered parenting now is not working.

Agreed. My son (almost 11) believe it or not, often thanks me for the way I parent and complains about all his friends whine and the how they have no manners.

All the friends I had playing outside.  Today not so much, tv, phone, computer, kids do not enjoy their youth like we did in the 70es.

Even in the early 80s, we have computers we played games on. Didn't keep us in the house all day though. Was all about sports when I was a kid.

I feel bad for kids today.  They'll never get to experience the joy of finding your dad's stash of Playboy and Penthouse.

Porn mag.  The Sears catalog would do in a pinch.  Video was pretty accurate although we didn't have lightning bugs in Cali.  Only got to play with those when visiting Dad back east.

Lightning bugs were the sh1t back in the day.  Would love driving at night and seeing fields full of them.

Like you my kids would only get to experience them when we'd visit my parents back in Upstate NY.

Pensacola Beach,FL was an amazing place for us kids. We almost always went for Easter. I was an only child so my cool Pops always let me bring friends. We’d also go July 4.

Yeah, we didn't have public pools in my backwater PA town.  My aunt did have an in ground one, though, so that was pretty cool.

Also, instead of go carts (without breaks), we would ride our skateboards (the little ones, not the big boards of today) while being towed behind a bike.  There was really only one way to stop, and that was to tumble on the asphalt.

On my block I'm pretty sure I still hold the record by jumping 4 garbage cans.

And the focking helmets they make the kids wear now.  I would have gone nuts if they'd made us wear those.  No wonder kids don't want to ride bikes any more.

We've got zillions of them in the woods behind my house.

I loved my big wheel and went through two a year.

Then I graduated to the Scrambler with the black rims. I loved that bike.

Then I graduated to fat chicks.

Exact same. The wheels in the back would eventually crack in the middle. Rode the hell out of that thing.

Having that right brake handle and being able to drift was the best. As soon I got a new one, I’d ripped the glrly tassels of the handles and then toss the flag. Bra

Saturday morning cartoons, this week in baseball, the baseball game of the week, and this is the nfl.  Off on the bike with the big group of kids in the neighborhood, and didn’t return until dark.  Great times, special times.

Thanks for the video.  Great memories. I had a Huffy with that big foam seat.  We played wiffleball every day with some home run derby and hot box mixed in.  I can still taste the garden hose water during breaks.  Lightning bugs were much more plentiful in those days. We would wind down with Ghosts in the Graveyard.

I saw this quote one time and it really bums me out:

At some point in your childhood, you and your friends went outside to play together for the last time, and nobody knew”
